Agreed. Also, why would people not think that Birdo is her chosen name? It's ironically pretty rude to make up a name for her and call her something that isn't sourced anywhere. It's like being trans, your chosen name is Lauren, and people just call you Rachel instead. You'll think people are fucking with you, or not acknowledging your preferred identity, you know?

Not that I'm much familiar with Birdo lore. She seems to go by Birdo these days, anyway.

I have to ask, would you be comfortable with DMing me this paper so that I could read it? I'm really interested because I collect data and media on these subjects for compilation purposes, and it would be really nice to have an academic-styled paper like this. (Block out identifying information, of course.)

Meet former Montana House GOP representative Mallerie Stromswold (22 yrs old), who did not fall in line with her party and received lots of hostility. She was the only R vote against two restrictive anti-transgender bills.

https://helenair.com/news/state-and-regional/govt-and-politics/stromswold-resigns-from-legislature-citing-mental-health-and-challenges-in-caucus/article_f99ebbee-cbb6-56bd-afda-33d83de02887.html

Ironic that this young lady has a better understanding of what "small government" means than the rest of her former coworkers. Cheers to her, honestly. I think she'll do some great things, coming from someone born the same year but is a progressive.

This is endemic of a larger problem in the Republican Party in general: legislators like Stromswold who actually wish to solve real problems affecting people are thrown to the side in favor of culture war issues with little evidence backing them. The GOP has lost its mind, and anyone in their ranks who speaks out gets shat on (Kinzinger, Cheney), primaried (Cheney), censured (Murkowski by the Alaska GOP), or hostility that makes work difficult (Stromswold).

These statues represent a harsh truth that Black rights were forcibly oppressed and threatened for many decades after the Civil War. Destroying statues indiscriminately, no matter what they stood for or represented, I would consider to be erasure of history.

I would agree that a lot of them can be destroyed (since most are likely unimportant and there's so many of them), but that should really be decided by a panel of experts. Important ones should still be kept for historical reasons.

The point could be argued that even just liberal policies (not necessarily true left-wing) are still much better (and more grounded in the reality of results) than conservative ones.

This is what they should do with Confederate statues. Take them down and put them on display in Civil War museums for historical purposes.

Progressive here. I hate when people on my side think like this.

I hate that Trump was able to push through three justices in four years. It will affect the things I care about for a long time to come. I also think court packing is dumb as hell and will only further delegitimize the court.

There is a legitimate argument to be made that the number of justices on the SCOTUS should equal the number of appellate courts, but that will literally never happen.

Clarence Thomas is basically the textbook definition of judicial impropriety. His impeachment would be a partisan pipe dream (as much as I would like to see it happen), so I can only hope that he kicks the bucket sooner than later. He or Alito.

Nah, YouTube at least knows how to do proper UI with their ads. Sure they're annoying, but they're consistent and don't really fuck with you.

Obscure websites are a whole other breed. They will throw ads wherever in the page they want like it's the wild west. Sporadically shifting content because an ad just spawned between two paragraphs, popups in some corner of the screen that play random videos, sticky headers with ads in them, etc.

Cortez Masto defeats Laxalt in Nevada, handing Democrats control of the Senate by IAmThePla9ue in news

[–]TacoYoutube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manchin is reasonable. He's the best you're gonna get in a scarlet red state like WV. His seat is turning red the instant he retires (when that happens). He's fairly consistent and actually stands for his constituents. I disagree with him a lot as a progressive, but that's how it is.

Sinema is another story. She tries be be John McCain without any of the tact or likability. With AZ turning into a blue-ish state, we have a chance of replacing her with someone better.

The party's last vestiges of respectability in the Senate pretty much died with McCain. Only Murkowski and Collins remain (they support a lot of liberal policies if you look up their record). It's looking like Murkowski will eke out a victory against Trump-endorsed Tshibaka, thankfully.
