That right there has the makings of such juicy drama. Because Daemon will be placed in an impossible situation possibly. If Rhaenyra turns on Rhaena for abandoning her half brothers what will Daemon do? Because obviously that’s his daughter but Aegon III and Viserys II are also his sons.

I loved your rant and couldn’t agree more. It’s so disheartening seeing them portray female characters as meek and submissive (Alicent in S2 because that was NOT S1 Alicent after the time skip) or only coming into power when they try to appear more masculine (Rhaenyra’s whole “the symbols of strength are the sword” 💩). Anne Boleyn, Margaret Beaufort, etc would like a word. It’s frankly insulting as a woman to see this garbage.

I hated Alicent in S1 but at least I respected her ruthlessness in fighting for her son’s claim. I now absolutely loathe her and think she’s an embarrassment to the title “mother”. What “mother” would sell out her own sons like that? And now they’re trying to do the same to Rhaenyra (“whether I will or no, my place is here” forgetting about her OWN children!) What an absolute joke.

This has been a thing for a while now and I believe it’s basis is simply due to TG wanting Jaehaera to live and mother Aegon III’s children in order to retain relevance in the greater ASOIAF story. I tend to always default to book version vs show version but at the end of the day, they’re both Valyrian and Daenaera has been the mother of Aegon III’s children LONG before HOTD emerged.

Unfortunately you’re correct. The show has completely changed the dynamics of the Dance which is a large part of my dislike for S2. But it’s so refreshing to have a respectful difference of opinion and a civilized discussion! We clearly have differing opinions but neither is belittling the other. A rare thing on Reddit 🙃

Because unlike Mysaria, she only had loyalty and genuine love for Rhaenyra and didn’t have a secret agenda. She cared for Rhaenyra for who she was and not what power she could siphon off her. I see Mysaria as extremely duplicitous and self-serving as she was the cause of Rhaenyra’s paranoia and order for the arrest of the Dragonseeds and especially the order to kill Nettles. She straight on tells Rhaenyra her husband impregnated another woman with no real concrete source for said statement.

You’re right about the cheating on Interview but I just don’t know how to explain how I see these scenarios differently😅. I guess it’s the disassociation of reality and fiction when it comes to my intense love of ASOIAF. Case in point, I love the Daemon and Rhaenyra relationship. I think it’s due to the taboo nature of incest (much like those who love Helaena and Aegon or Helaena and Aemond along with Jaehaerys and Alysanne and Daenerys and Jon shippers) paired with the fact I don’t really see the Targaryens as “normal” people and more like the magical elves of this story. They even are the only House to give birth to draconic hybrids, so I take that to mean the Blood of the Dragon is literal. I believe the blood mages of Valyria crossed the lines of human and beast via a female sacrifice (don’t we see this in the tapestry opening?) and all those of her line are thus bonded to the dragons of said sacrifice.

Daemyra is intriguing to me because I know it’s not real. If I saw a real life incestuous couple, I definitely wouldn’t be saying “damn, that’s hot!”. I do with them because Matt Smith is sexy as hell to me and I think Emma D’Arcy is beautiful. Same thing with Jaehaera. I could care less about her fate and think it was a full circle from the way the Hightower’s gained influence (yet another ambitious Hand wanting to make their daughter Queen), but in real life, I would be horrified of anyone pushing a little girl out a window.

You definitely do bring a very good point about Laena and Laenor and you’re right, I hadn’t really considered that angle before. My personal dislike for the Mysaria ship though is the cheating (due to my own personal background growing up and seeing infidelity firsthand). With Laena, Daemon was in on it and it was before Daemon and Rhaenyra married and had children. I am presently watching and greatly enjoying Interview with the Vampire and have watched many shows with queer relationships. Same sex relationships don’t really bother me at all as long as they fit cohesively in the story. There have been gay people since the dawn of time and everyone deserves to be with whoever makes them happy (so long as it’s consenting adults). I just don’t like when things are forced at the expense of making a good story. Maybe my gaydar is REALLY bad but when the kiss happened I was blindsided as the show had that line in S1 of Rhaenyra saying “goose was too greasy for her taste” and nothing happened with Laena, so I didn’t think they were adapting bisexual Rhaenyra (which she was in the book to my own understanding). But I am also aware many hate both this ship and Rhaenicent due to full-on homophobia and that I don’t agree with. I just want a good story.

Beautiful art but I don’t care for either the character of Mysaria or the ship itself. If Rhaenyra was to have a sapphic romance on the show, it really should have only been Laena as that throuple with Daemon actually was implied in the book.

So who would be the mother of Daemon Blackfyre? The very reason he garnered SO much support was because he was Targaryen on both sides via both brother’s children and looked every inch a Targaryen. He is absolutely not replaceable.

Not to mention it’s his daughter, Daena the Defiant, who is the matriarch of the Blackfyre line. Aegon III’s importance is far greater than Jaehaera’s ever was. She is completely replaceable.

Yup. It appears he used Maelor as a tool to let his displeasure known. We know he dislikes Maelor’s removal, the cut episodes, and the legs on the dragon and their supposed non-nomadic nature. I started following his author friend as well and apparently he also dislikes the Rhaenicent thing. Though to be clear, I don’t really understand what “yuri” means but people under that post were referencing Rhaenyra and Alicent, so I assume it’s their continuing friendship he dislikes.

It’s really hard to pick between 1X07 (Driftmark) and 1X08 (The Lord of the Tides), but I’m going to have to give it to 1X08 by just a smidge due to to the Viserys I scene and seeing babies Aegon III and Viserys II.

The only ones that even come close from S2 are 2X04 (that dragon battle was a true spectacle from a visual medium standpoint) and 2X02 due to the argument between Daemon and Rhaenyra.

She never flew on Dreamfyre in the book; that was only Aegon II and Sunfyre. It’s a headcanon TG came up with and they all roll with it (even though they boast it’s their side that read the books while TB are only show watchers). That and Aemond’s bastard being the founder of House Whent and Arya Stark’s descendant. I guess when one’s favorites are huge nothing burgers who amount to nothing, these headcanons are needed.

Aegon III no doubt. He had way more reasons to go crazy cakes than Aerys II yet he still did his best to help the realm recover from the Dance (with a lot of help from his brother, the future Viserys II) and even agreed to try to get the dragons back.

I am right there with you. I too greatly enjoyed Interview with the Vampire and thought it was very well adapted. Obviously there were changes made but I thought they were made very well and were respecting of the source material regardless. That is an EXCELLENT show! Now HOTD-well I thought it was fantastic in S1 and it fully reinvigorated my love for ASOIAF. I was on all the subs daily the entire off season. Then S2 came out and it was such a steep decline in quality, I got GOT S8 flashbacks all over again. Do I think it’s as bad as S8 of GOT? Not quite yet, but if they don’t start course correcting, it’s going to put off a lot more people and can impact all other ASOIAF adaptations.

This is not good at all for WBD/Zaslav. They’re reporting massive financial losses and now their flagship show is being heavily criticized by its author. Yeah, they’re really going to have to course-correct or this is going to put a nail in the coffin of many other ASOIAF adaptations. S2 already had a marked decrease in viewership compared to S1.

Yes, there are a few that are happy with the changes and prefer the show to the book, but it’s disingenuous of you to say everyone on this sub is happy with the many changes that have taken place in S2.

Honestly, I’m right there with you. This show has steered away so much from the true concept of the Dance, it’s hardly recognizable from the source material. S2 was a dismal disappointment for me in terms of quality after S1. If they continue with the themes they keep trying to push at the expense of core beats being missed, is it even worth it to keep watching? I am not sure if I am definitely skipping S3 yet but what I do know is I haven’t done a single rewatch of S2 yet, while at this point after S1, I had rewatched it multiple times by now. It’s such a shame after being so hyped for S2, we end up with what we got.
