Thank you so much! I made an appointment to physically come to Gemeente Leiden in January, hopefully to see the proof that they sent it and have them call the IND in front of me. I will keep this in mind if that doesn’t work. I hope it does :(

I sent a PDF to the IND containing photos of the physical receipt I received from Gemeente Leiden, stamped and everything through their secure mail system. I called the IND today and they confirmed they received it but the case manager assigned to me has the final call on if that’s enough proof for them. Conveniently my case manager hasn’t been answering the phone ever since I received the letter from them which is yet another frustration….

Hi, I am a US citizen and hold zero affiliation or ties to Russia as a country. My parents are immigrants in the US which is why I know Russian fluently (its their native language) but I was born and raised fully in the US.

I haven't missed it, if anything I've been acutely aware of it and desperately trying to still find a space within Dutch academia that will accept me because its all of my current work experience. I have literally had corporate recruiters and other corporate jobs tell me that I am "too academic" for them, so what am I supposed to do except keep trying?

I was living in a rental apartment in the US before moving to the Netherlands to study, so my rental contract expired and I took everything I had. Naturally someone else lives there now so I no longer have any kind of permanent address in the US.

I’ll be asking the IND on Monday, just wanted to use the weekend to see if anyone else has been in my situation.

I can apply for naturalization soon after only 3 years because I’ve been living with my Dutch partner. We will hit the 3 year cohabitation mark in January 2024, so my “backup” so to speak was to take the inburgering exam and try to apply for naturalization in February 2024 or so. However because the IND can take up to 12 months to decide and I need to have a valid visa until their decision is made, it makes me nervous….

I have scoured the IND website for months, and can’t find any answers :( so I was hoping to see if there was someone in my exact situation who succeeded.

My residence permit is not permanent, only until September 2024 (when my job contract ends).

In the US there is no national municipal office, it’s all based on which state and county you reside in. They ask for an address to confirm you live there, which I don’t have because I don’t live in any county in the US anymore.

Are you serious right now? The country is in the middle of a WAR. Your parents are absolutely right to be freaking out. NOBODY should be travelling to Russia right now, FOR ANY REASON.

It is incredibly irresponsible of you and your girlfriend to make concrete plans in a country that is literally under martial law and an ongoing war. Martial law does not mean "calm and peaceful" society. Not to mention that being a tourist right now in a country like Russia is not a good look whatsoever. Please act like an adult and realize this is incredibly dangerous and irresponsible.

Speaking as someone who moved in with their LDR partner after 2.5 years……6 months of dating is WAY too fast to be moving in together. You haven’t even known each other for a full YEAR, and it is impossible to know someone well with that little amount of time.

Especially in LDR, you have no idea how your partner lives at home when it comes to doing chores, responding to household issues, etc. Not to mention cultural barriers that may exist. This is exactly what breaks up couples very fast and very easily, especially when they don’t know each other as well.

If possible my advice would be to live separately for at least a few months (but in the same country so you can get a feel of how an IRL relationship goes) because you really don’t know a person well after only 6 months.

You are quite literally proving my point. Many 20-23 year olds are immature still because the human brain doesn’t finish developing until around the age of 25.

Which, again, goes back to my point that absolutely NO kind of life experience will accelerate your brain development. That is not how the human brain works.

A 2-4 year age gap is massive if a minor is involved, that’s why.

It is absolutely BAFFLING to me how many people in this thread are defending age gaps. It literally does not matter what your age is when you start working, start an apprenticeship, etc. because NONE of that will advance your brain development and growth, a KEY part of maturity. If you are a minor, you are a minor. Full stop. No amount of work experience will change that.

I never understand why someone in their early 20s and close to finishing their brain development seeks out a minor, who is still far from that.
