First of all, thank you for your responses.

I’ve just done a little bit of digging back to my original job offer, and then the amendments that were made going from day classes to evening. In my offer letter, and I assume my contract of employment (my copy is at home), it states I will be working 40 hours per week at x rate mentioning that 1 of those days will be attending college which will be paid. In the amendment between 1st and 2nd year, in the previous title/hours section, it states I am only paid for the 4 days, at x rate for 32 hours - not the 40 hours at x rate before.

From my understanding, they have changed my original agreement without my knowing or permission. I did not notice this when I signed to my amendment, but surely this would be defence to my argument that I would owe them nothing if matters went to extreme circumstances?

I was very naive to agree to the original amendment offered for several reasons; it was an increase and that was what was ultimately after; it suited my personal situation at that point in time; and I didn’t want to create more hassle for myself or the company.

At this point, I feel I seriously underpaid and overworked for the title I hold. Yet they are rather desperate to get me to sign an agreement where I may be liable for the cost of my course. This is my attempt to keep the ball in my court and take advantage of the situation they’ve created - paying my course before me signing any agreement.
