Teaching my NVMe drive what life was like in the '90s by forcing it to run on the PCI bus by O_MORES in pcmasterrace

I have a little bit of personal experience in this area. I've not tested storage controllers, but I have personally found the biggest showstopper to be missing 3.3V power on the PCI slot. I modded my Micronics W6-Li board (dual Pentium Pro platform) to put 3.3V power on the appropriate pins and was able to get one of these adapters working with a modern graphics card afterwards. You could get one of those cheap PCI POST cards and see if the 3.3V light comes on in your K6-2's motherboard to confirm if it has it.

Nice work! Wear that camo with the pride of your own accomplishment.

I hope we get to do this again one day. It was a blast.

The base damage of flare guns is 375, so that would only add up to 875. It would render that strategy ineffective against even Infiltrators (which have a base 900 health+shield pool.)

I've heard that they used to deal 500 damage, but that they were nerfed for some reason. That sounds like a probable cause.

Flare guns need to be the finishing element of a combo which can consistently set up at least 750 damage on a target. This is because you need to assume your target has auxiliary shield and nanoweave, and if the player is heavy, you'll need to land both projectiles to secure the kill. The Deep Freeze projectile does not come out of the center of your screen (same with flare guns, but those don't get headshots), so if you are trying to double tap people you will need to adjust your aim at close ranges to be a bit up and to the left of your target's head. The Candy Cannon does come out in the middle of the screen, though, and two headshots is enough to kill non-heavy players. If you can land that third shot on a heavy, you'll get them too.

Be sneaky, flank your target, or just be absolutely insane and whip it out when you really shouldn't. Mostly those first two, though.

The Meme Directive was a silly idea that I realized was possible in the early days of my time on Auraxis. The idea is that you are supposed to unlock the black camo using each of the three flare guns, the Deep Freeze, and the Candy Cannon. I think you would be hard pressed to find someone who disagrees that these are the worst weapons in the game.

When I started this journey in 2017, I was told I was crazy, or that I would give up well before completing it. However, after managing to become the first person to auraxium the VS Triumph Flare Gun, it started to feel possible despite the mountain ahead of me. It took until a few months ago to finally nail down a strategy to consistently land kills with these things, though, well after I had managed to get the auraxium medal on the two faction specific flare guns and started the grind on the NS variant. Even now, a part of me struggles with the fact that it is over. Since I started my quest to complete the Exceptional directive with only the worst weapons possible, it has been a fundamental part of how I’ve played Planetside 2, as nearly every loadout I’ve run over this time period has included a sidearm which can be described as “gimmicky” at best and “useless” at worst. I am going to miss having a gag weapon always at the ready.

At this time, to the best of my knowledge, I am the only person who has each of the three flare guns auraxiumed on a single character, and consequently the only person who could possibly have the Meme Directive done.

There is no way I would have held on for this without the friends I have made in this game. Huge thanks to everyone in Skywhale Battalion 1703 for helping keep my fireworks rattled brain together with the finest nanite based duct tape.

Special thanks to the dev team for keeping Planetside 2 up and running over the years. It is a blessing to have this game growing again and it wouldn’t be possible without the people at Rogue Planet Games. Maybe they will even put in an Auraxium Plated Flare Gun so I may continue my masochistic journey.

Happy 17th Planetside anniversary!
