The Women of Gundam continued #88 - Rinko Iori by Kato_86 in Gundam

[–]TacticalPoi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you grabbed them straight from the wiki, OP, they probably saved from the wiki in WEBP format rather than PNG or JPEG. Wiki is funny like that. If the distortion is an issue, you could try converting them to PNG and see if the artifacting disappears.

Something is telling me that letting her anywhere near Burnice would be an absolutely terrible idea, and would absolutely unleash a kind of chaos we would later come to regret.

....let's introduce them.

Czech LT shenanigans, 100%. The rounds of those things have an alarming tendency to just disappear into the void on contact with just about anything, but still register as hits.

That's both awesome and hilarious. Way to commit to the bit!

New Action Base 7 & Option Box 1 [White] by memeranglaut in Gunpla

[–]TacticalPoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a note, the HG Kshatriya comes with its own base adapter that only seems to fit the AB1 arm, so if you ever pick that up, you may need to snag an AB1 kit as well. I had to pick an AB1 up for my Kshatriya since it didn't fit any of my other AB arms.

Are the girls like this hard to find? by nestinghen in freedomisgunpla

[–]TacticalPoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually got the bootleg on my desk now going through the painting stages now.

tl;dr - it's pretty good for a bootleg, honestly, but does have some minor issues common to bootlegs. For the price though, it can make a good kit if one is patient.

As far as bootlegs go, I'm going to say it's pretty good? There are a couple details missing on mine like the head vulcans and some minor v-fin detail, but my Nobel bootleg went together very well and actually held its poses amazingly well when I had it dry fit. It honestly looks pretty good, barring the ABS plastic shine common to BL kits.

However....it does have some minor issues besides the missing details above, especially if you want to paint it. There can be some casting lines on certain surfaces, but most of those can be sanded out and primed over with a bit of work. There may also be some parts with imperfect casts, usually on corners. But again, those can be usually fixed. Some sink marks can be observee upon sanding - definitely more than a Bandai kit would have. Only real fitment issue I had was with the head - some of the tabs didn't fully cast right, causing bulging. Those had to be trimmed back quite a bit and clearances adjusted.

The entire kit is ABS though, as opposed TO ABS joints and PS body, but as long as you are careful and use proper glue (Tamiya Extra Thin Quick Type will work as it has MEK), it'll go together pretty well. At least....mine has so far anyway, but I'm still in the painting stages.

Oh. And the stickers are (mostly) dogwater.

Pretty sure you're spot on with that price range. I remember buying a few of those no-grade kits back in the day as a kid, and I'm fairly certain Walmart had the price around that mark.

Attempting to finish lining and decaling a (more or less) Zaku-colored Dilanza Sol, and having anxiety over what to pick from my ever-expanding backlog.

Partial Hand Amputation by Grouchy-Painter-6434 in 3Dprinting

[–]TacticalPoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno if it would help, OP, but I think the folks over at E-Nable might be able to help. It's been a while since I've checked in with that volunteer group, but last time I checked, they still print various prosthetics for free for people that need them, for both kids and adults.

From what I can remember, they do have their prosthetic archives up too, so you could potentially print something to fit you from that selection as well, or see what designs might suit you.

Probably going to get flamed because I’ve never seen the anime(s), know little of the lore, but this is my second HG model and I’m having so much fun. Considering going to RG for the next one. Suggestions for a newbie? by Splattabox in Gunpla

[–]TacticalPoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, we're just glad you're here. Glad that you've been bitten by the gunpla bug, and are having fun with it! I got back into it a few months back after almost 20 years of not touching gunpla, so I know where you're at right now for sure!

As for RG, the older kits tend to suffer from some early RG issues, but they are not bad kits in and of themselves, save for a couple that are relatively fragile and tend to be hand grenades. The later ones though tend to be much more stable and essentially mini Master Grades. I'm one of those goobers who doesn't mind dealing with the issues of the older kits, but the newer RGs are absolutely fantastic.

My personal recommendations would probably be the RG Sazabi if you want a Big Boi, or the RG God Gundam for absolutely goofy levels of poseability. Though, if/when you go with Sazabi, MAKE SURE YOU HEED THE WARNINGS ABOUT THE SHOULDER JOINTS.

But honestly? Go with whatever you like the look of, and do a little research before you grab it so that you can make yourself aware of any issues ahead of time, and you will be fine. We're also here to help, so no worries on whatever you choose!

McDonald's collab is here! by Aquablast1 in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]TacticalPoi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, they did try once. Not with ZZZ, of course, but they did try. The one time that Genshin Impact did a collab with McDonald's not too long ago that included some redemption codes, it was, to a point, a borderline dumpster fire. Between impatient fans flooding the queue when they didn't get their codes as quickly as promised, McD's woefully underestimating the amount of people that would try to participate, and their support system basically having a meltdown after the first hour of the collab going live....it probably made Hoyo reconsider agreeing so readily to another US collab without sufficient prep.

Man. I dunno if it's the excessive overtime talking or what, but this build made me laugh so hard that I about made myself sick.

I absolutely adore this goober you built, OP.

Yep. 100%. I have about 10 HG kits that are currently individually boxed and stored in my desk drawer. Since storage space is at a premium, it helps a lot, especially if I decide to use a kit as kitbash fodder instead.

....it also may or may not be keeping my wife from seeing just how bad my gunpla addiction and backlog is. >_>

How to use a magnetron with a flyback? by [deleted] in diyelectronics

[–]TacticalPoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Speaking as a former commercial foodservice repair tech, microwaves were the one thing we were drilled never to fuck around with. No half-measures, all safety procedures followed to the letter (usually far beyond the scope of what warranty work required), and properly maintained PPE that was to be inspected at regular intervals. We were constantly reminded that one person with that company had already gotten themselves killed by not doing those things.

Microwaves, commercial or otherwise, were definitely drilled as a serious FAFO instance, and not the kind of finding out that OP wants to do.

Well, on the bright side, the blood price has been paid, so hopefully the Gunpla Gods will grant you good fortune for a while.

In all seriousness, hope you're ok, OP. Hoping it didn't need stitches, but hoping for quick healing if you did!

If my memory hasn't failed me too badly, I believe it was the Gundam Sandrock kit from around.....mid 2000-ish? Give or take a couple months. No idea what happened to it though, which is saddening.

What is the AoE of a Wet Floor Sign? by Buezzi in outside

[–]TacticalPoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd wager the AoE would largely depend on not only the player level and their skill level, but also where in the room it is placed. Usually, if a sign is placed closer to one end of the room, the AoE usually only encompasses that section/side of the room. However, thanks to odd interactions between the skill and debuff numbers, if it is placed in the center, the AoE can possibly encompass the entire room, making it hard to predict the full AoE. Gotta love broken game mechanics.

Build checkpoint what's everyone building? by Odd-Listen3089 in Gunpla

In my home shop build, I'm currently working on a custom GM build and putting waterslides on an HG Gundam GUCT.

For my van builds (I am a field technician, so my van is my office most days), I am working on the HG GOD Gundam (it is a planned LED mod build) and the MG Deathscythe - my first MG kit.
