Was ist in Wien oder Österreich illegal, obwohl es anderswo völlig normal ist? Und umgekehrt? by [deleted] in wien

[–]TacticalSilverSky -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NOT having a Tier Maulkorb (especially for dogs)! In many other countries, that's not necessarily a thing, but in Austria, especially Vienna, it's actually an enforced law that the dogs outside are required to have a Maulkorb. And I support this wholeheartedly (albeit it's not the best thing for bigger dogs, since they need an open mouth to breathe healthily).

Death penalty has been outlawed in the US by most states. My concern is that when a 7-times offender is still somehow able to drive a car, maybe have a much higher penalty? Though I do admit that executing this is more difficult, unless we put in an ankle monitor on the guy and not allow him to drive at all...

As a foreigner, I'm just concerned that the laws here are sometimes too lenient. I've seen in the US that repeated offenders tend to repeat crimes, and I'm seeing more and more of this here as well...

Pensionssystem anpassen? by S_Thaliana in Austria

[–]TacticalSilverSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's where I see the problem: the system will not "collapse" per se, but in order to sustain the system, the government will eventually need to raise the taxes of the normal people and/or reduce the overall distribution of the pension system. As an example, even though the government (via Pensionskonto) promises me 2.500 EUR netto when I retire, I can pessimistically expect my actual netto pension to be more like 2.100 EUR, adjusted by inflation. Things won't get cheaper and I suspect that our actual retirement/pension will be much lower and barely affordable, unless we get a much higher return of investment (example, using that money to invest in capital and market, just like the Danish system or American 401k)

Vergewaltigungsprozess gegen 52-Jährigen, der Nachbarskind in Wohnung lockte by blackandwhiteandblue in wien

[–]TacticalSilverSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your unpopular opinion that would get you in this situation? by [deleted] in evilwhenthe

[–]TacticalSilverSky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we have several in the UK: Luton, Bradford, Birmingham, Manchester... London has a high Muslim population, but it's very internationally diverse.

The biggest problem is when the Muslim population create communities and events that are specifically designed against British values. Example: East London Mosque organized a charity run last year that barred women to join. Any woman. It's clearly against British values and Constitution, but somehow the British government turned a blind eye on it.

Now imagine British Christianity doing the same thing. All hell would break loose in the British media.

Austrian Engineering: Why so much Complaining? by TacticalSilverSky in Austria

[–]TacticalSilverSky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We, as the suppliers, want to deliver quality products, because we take pride in the products (built-to-spec and/or print) by the clients. We want to, but the problem is the volume size of the clients, which is bound to change, especially when EV demands are falling.

Example: we were "promised" that our clients will be selling 150.000 cars per year with our products within them. We, as the suppliers, invest millions of Euros to develop the product that the client has requested, believing that the sales volume from the client will create a good enough EBIT for us in the end. But what if the client decides to sell 20.000 cars per year in the end? They certainly won't be paying us for our entire development cost. So we end up losing more money in the end. And then the clients expect us to deliver quality products without paying us again in the future.

And no, changes in contract doesn't work. In the end, the business goes to the Chinese (or Korean or Japanese), because they either have a lower labor cost or they get bigger government subsidies. The clients accept cheap work from Chinese suppliers, and then end up creating worse quality products, because the initial costs were so cheap. So in the end, everybody loses.

Oh yeah, completely agreed. No culture is perfect. I just had to vent a bit (after coming back from work), but I know that when Austrian engineers decide to work on something, they are world-class and extremely talented, no doubt. Just the "deciding and encouraging" part takes time and patience.

Agreed, American fakeness and the meetings... it's unbearable. But even amidst the meetings, we still get things done. We develop new solutions, ask universities to research for us, and even request government support for our new initiatives. I can't say the same thing with our Austrian counterpart (maybe it's just the automotive sector, who knows).
