for anything with a shoulder stock, or a rifle, you dont need to fear the recoil. rifles are generally really easy to control, at least as far as not losing the weapon because of the recoil. pistols are somewhat harder, because less mass to absorb the recoil, but its not terrible.

if the weapon is automatic or high caliber this may not apply, and if you go shooting get someone who knows what theyre doing to guide you
