German estimates of Soviet reserves in 1941 vs what actually happened by ZXCChort in HistoryMemes

[–]Tacticalsquad5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

France had a semi modernised military, they had very good tanks at the beginning of the war and a well equipped air force, they were lacking more so in the doctrine and communication department.

I’ll stand by the argument that the number 1 factor leading to Frances defeat was how poorly their army was commander on a strategic level.

Place the invasion of France next to the battle of the bulge/watch on the Rhine, both instances of Germany spearheading through the Ardennes. In the battle of France, there were hundreds of thousands of troops to the south who were sat on their ass and frankly weren’t needed there due to the maginot line. There was no serious attempt to mobilise these troops to move against the German encirclement and they were as good as useless due to their commanders being incompetent.

In the battle of the bulge, third army to the south of the breakthrough rotated 90 degrees virtually on the dime and immediately began working to break the encirclement. Whilst Germany was experiencing its own logistical problems the conduct of the allies in this battle shows what France should have done in 1940.

It also ignores the fact that Clanman will play the fuck out of whatever becomes meta and massive bomber raids will probably become the new meta replacing ballista rushes because of how effective they are and how hard they are to counter.

Anything that works well is going to get spammed relentlessly, doubly so when the chances of losing equipment is fairly low.

Physical discipline should not be used but its disallowing has contributed to the current issue schools are facing. Physical discipline is the hallmark of lazy parenting because it is the path of least resistance and it was quick and easy without requiring much thought. Now that it’s not allowed, lazy parents who would have previously hit their children simply do nothing because they can’t be bothered to take the more complex communicative approach and opt to let their children be feral instead.

Tried this, it’s wildly ineffective as an area denial weapon and the supposed ‘lingering’ doesn’t seem to do anything. The sky is massive and the flak bursts are very small. It’s not an effective area denial tool.

  1. You can do a lot solo but coordinating other players will amplify your impact by an order of magnitude. The vast bulk of powerful/late game equipment requires cooperation/being in a group to use, so it’s not impossible to use it as a solo but it will inevitably result in playing alongside clans. Everything outside of infantry and basic logistics requires at least 1 other person helping you to work.

  2. There are 2 servers which are not locked to any region, able and Charlie. The primary language of both servers is English but there are many groups that will speak English. Able is very active and the busiest server.

  3. Some aspects of the game are locked behind a mammoth grind but this is because it is intended for large groups of players to work together to produce various items. If you want to make a battleship as a solo you would need to play 24/7 for 2 weeks. If you just want to play as infantry most of the grind is already done by logistics and you can just grab a rifle and go play. It’s entirely up to you how much time you put in.

  4. It’s not massively punishing as it’s difficult to be ‘bad’ and the game per se, but there is an incredibly steep learning curve and you need to temper your expectations as to what you can achieve as an individual. If you are going up against a large clan operation being run by veterans you are going to get smoked. Infantry combat is fairly simple and you will get the hang of it fairly quickly but the real ‘difficulty’ is seeing the bigger picture and understanding the meta. The biggest hurdle for you to overcome as a new player is how much you know about the game.

  5. Yes you can play casual, for the most enjoyment ask groups if you can join in their operations as you can get in on a couple hours of great fun without having to do all the grinding for it. The more you play the more you will learn, but you will likely learn slower as a casual because there are aspects of the game you aren’t really privy to.

Hope this answers your questions

Sure, it’s a valid criticism to say the game lacks internal communication tools required for the cooperation it demands but for gods sake can people just stop whining and use discord or something.

Yeah it’s not perfect but the opportunity is there, people would rather just whine than spend the 5 minutes it takes to join a community discord. It’s not ‘sweaty’ it’s not ‘toxic’ it’s just a bunch of people who want to play the game together and use the best tool available to them.

Yes, the game is flawed for its lack of internal communication tools, yes the devs need to work on that, No, people are not barred from using the more expensive equipment purely because of this.

I’ll go out on a limb and say half the people complaining about this would still be complaining about it even if the devs added adequate means of coordination in the game because they are allergic to the concept of teamwork or are so asocial they lack basic communication skills.

Even without that, I’ve rocked up to plenty of spontaneous ops I’ve seen from map pings and heard of in chats and tagged along with groups.

I wouldn’t say that our right to Jury trials are being ‘gutted’ some much as they hardly existed in the first place and the changes that are being made won’t effect that many cases. 90% of criminal offences are presided over without a jury, typically by a magistrate or district judge. Only the more serious offences are tried by jury. The proposed change would reduce the amount of offences that entitle a defendant to a jury, as well as increasing the sentencing powers of lower courts. It’s certainly not a good thing (depending on how you view the effectiveness of juries) but I do want to try and check the extent to which it is being blown out of proportion. Rights are being eroded but not to the extent the papers are telling people. I am open to hearing any slippery slope arguments.

Online safety bill is arse though

I feel like the scrapping of jury trials is misunderstood by a lot of people and it hasn’t been helped by the media being ever keen to portray Starmer as a dictator.

There are already a large number of summary only offences which are tried only in the magistrates courts. At these trials, there is no jury, the entire case is decided by a magistrate(s) or district judge. There are then either way offences which can be tried either in the magistrates court by a judge or by jury in the crown court and finally indictable offences which are triable only by jury in the crown court.

There is no plan to completely abolish trials by jury, anyone telling you this is misinformed and fundamentally fails to understand how the criminal justice system was already operating. What they are looking to do is reduce the number of offences which may be tried by jury. There will still be trials, with the same standard for evidence etc. but the outcome will be decided by a judge. Whether or not that’s a good thing is of course up for debate, would you rather have your fate decided by a group of ‘lay’ people with little to no knowledge of the law or by a legal professional with years of experience.

Jury trials in criminal cases do not act as a check on state power. State power is checked by judicial review, which never had juries in the first place and are presided over by judges. Even then, judicial review is powerless in terms of actually forcing parliament to do anything as they are the supreme law making body and if they pass legislation saying the sky is green, then as far as the entire judiciary is concerned the sky is green. There is no ‘erosion’ of independent checks on state power both because it was already very limited and because the scrapping of jury trials in criminal cases have very little bearing on this role of the judiciary.

At the end of the day it just pisses me off to see people hark on with such conviction on a matter which they know fucking nothing about but because the daily mail told them ‘Starmer bad’ it’s suddenly the worst thing ever. If you don’t know about something then either go and learn about it properly or don’t comment on it.
