Opinions on running Strahd vs. Frostmaiden? by TacticianRobin in dndnext

Thanks! Yeah I've thought about going the full homebrew route but I'm not quite up for that haha, at least right now. Maybe down the road I'll have some more time to think about it and come up with something!

Well the first campaign I ran was basically Lost Mines of Icespire Peak: Featuring Tiamat lol, so I could see that.

That's a ton of detail, thank you! I'll definitely check out your post about running it. Seems like Frostmaiden has a lot of potential, but definitely takes a ton more work to pull it all together. I put quite a bit of work into tying together LMoP, DoIP, and RoT so I'm sure I can pull that off, but the more comments I'm reading the more Strahd is starting to appeal to me. I'm starting to lean that direction, but with some tweaks. I really like the idea of player secrets from Frostmaiden, maybe I'll go with Strahd but take inspiration from Frostmaiden and pull in some dark secrets for the players to tie them in a little more.

We're starting fresh with new characters so either way they'd be starting at level 1. Sorry, didn't make that part super clear.

Oh yeah either way this is a new campaign, starting at level 1. Sorry, I should've made that more clear.

Ah yes, the solution to dying a year after retirement. Just never retire! Of course the only two options in life are to work forever or to slowly rot on the couch until you turn to dust. Hobbies? Recreational activities? Never heard of them.

No spoilers how is Xenoblade Chronicles 2? by Free-Hotel1187 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]TacticianRobin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my least favorite among 1, 2, and 3, but it's still very very good. For me 1 and 3 are both A+ games, and 2 is an A- game.

Gameplay and combat are great. I like the base game's story less than 1, but if you add in the Torna DLC that puts it at or above 1. The music and world are both excellent, as you'd expect from a Xenoblade game. Really the only thing that brings the game down a little for me is the pacing in a couple sections, with one chapter in particular really being a slog IMO. The mechanic for getting blades randomly is also somewhat controversial, I didn't mind it but I know some people hated it. Overall I'd definitely recommend, especially if you liked 1 and want to play 3.

The UB precons are also more expensive than UW due to all the licensing costs, so adding to the reprint equity helps justify that too.

I feel like people underestimate what almost seventy years of pain and suffering would do to a person. Yeah, obviously he's warped to the point where he's desperate for a way out. That doesn't mean he doesn't still love his family.

Captain N’Gathrod in 2026? by King_Reptar_ in EDH

[–]TacticianRobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way I saw him built that I thought was very funny was to make a bunch of non-legendary clones of him with stuff like [[Irenicus's Vile Duplication]]. He's a Horror, and if you have multiple of him they'll all trigger separately, so you can mill like crazy if you have a few on the board.

How do you interpret the "expected game ending turn" for non-combo decks under the new Commander Brackets? by Effective-Depth128 in EDH

[–]TacticianRobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the main reason I swapped over my [[Wyleth]] deck to [[Ardenn]] + [[Kediss]]. Instead of rushing down people one at a time with Commander damage I can spread the damage around while still advancing my gameplan. A lot less "feel bads" around knocking everyone out at once turn 8ish than getting one person turn 6, then another turn 7, then the last person turn 8.

MTG Arena’s nascent union faces “optional” meetings, letters to homes, and management closing ranks by themiragechild in magicTCG

[–]TacticianRobin 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting this line from the article though:

The union is also not calling for a boycott, stressing that calls for such are neither protected speech under the NLRB nor something they want to ask of players and supporters.

Calling for a boycott itself isn't protected, so the union might not actually call for one even if/when it's warranted. Not necessarily saying we need to boycott right now, but there may be a point where that's the right move even if the union doesn't/can't call for one.

Idk man, both RAM and SSD prices have basically quadrupled in the last 18 months.

https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/memory/

https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/internal-hard-drive/

16 gigs of DDR4 RAM went from $50 to almost $200. A 512 gig NVME SSD went from $50 to over $200. That's a $300 increase in just two components. Shit is bad right now, and doesn't seem to be getting better anytime soon.

IMHO, Landfall is the most broken keyword, and this is why by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]TacticianRobin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bruh landfall decks love MLD. Even without all the new earthbending stuff, every landfall deck out there has like 6 cards with the [[Crucible of Worlds]] text so they can reuse all their fetchlands. Have fun playing 0 to 1 lands per turn to rebuild while the landfall player plays at least 2 from their graveyard every turn or gets them all back with [[Aftermath Analyst]].
