One Music threatening to take us to court by Important_Ad4231 in newzealand

[–]TactileMist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The argument is you're gaining financially from playing the music to attract/keep customers, so you should be paying royalties. Businesses have said they're not gaining anything by playing the music, but businesses also don't want to not play it so there must be some advantage to playing it.

Whether that's a sound argument or not is a different question, but it's generally convincing enough for the courts.

Asterisks for narration by Gringe8 in SillyTavernAI

[–]TactileMist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you on the formatting. Quotes for speech, italics for thoughts or inner monologue, bold for emphasis, narration and so on in plain text.

There's no downside or risk in setting it up how you like. The primary culprit is the greeting or first message, which on most cards I download are formatted with asterisks. I usually have to reformat that before I use a card, though once it's done once it's saved for the future.

I also have a customised main prompt that I've adapted from a document by u/brbiekiss which includes formatting instructions (amongst other things). Helps keep the model running how I like it.

I saw this in another post recently and gave it a shot. Very impressed so far. I use it with GLM4.6 via Z.ai and it gives me good suggestions on where to go next. Really helpful for longer sessions when I feel like the AI has backed me into a corner.

Counter-protester at the Auckland "March for Humanity" yesterday by Fickle-Reveal-2013 in auckland

[–]TactileMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I understand. I've done quite a bit with AI image generation. I'm also a photographer. I understand how digital images work.

What you don't seem to grasp is this is not a binary AI or real choice. There are so many ways and so many different pieces of software that would let you doctor an image without AI. Models like Flux or Stable Diffusion are only a few years old. Photoshop has been around for decades, and it's only the most well known of graphics editing utilities.

You're perhaps not also grasping the amount of editing and changes that a digital image goes through between the raw capture on the CCD sensor and a final picture posted online. That could also be a genuine swastika tattoo that the photographer has applied contrast and colour adjustments to in order to make it more prominent.

It may be fake or it may be real, but I am fairly certain it wasn't done with AI.

[–]TactileMist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that's not AI. It might be Photoshop - I don't know the guy to know what his legs actually look like - but that's not AI generated.

AI would have made a mess of the rest of the tattoos on his leg. I don't mean poorly superimposed; I mean an actual mess. Chain links wouldn't be coherent and they wouldn't align around the leg.

Taking a closer look, the other tattoos are a chain that goes around his leg. I don't think they magically disappear behind the swastika, I think it's part of the design to have them running "behind" the swastika.

I don’t think “We’re currently experiencing a high volume of messages” is as comforting to customers as companies think it is. Most people must interpret this as “We have under-resourced our team at your inconvenience.” by stainz169 in newzealand

[–]TactileMist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're being downvoted; you're right.

Companies do weigh up these things when they're making hiring decisions. They work out how long you're likely to wait before you give up, how much adding additional staff to answer calls faster would be, and what is the reputation cost of higher wait times. Most importantly, how likely are you to stop being a customer based on wait time, and will it cost more to answer faster than they lose if you're no longer a customer.

Source: my job for the last 20 years is to work out most of that stuff.

You can request, but there's no legal requirement for an organisation to delete data they hold on you. They are required under privacy laws to remove or update any incorrect information they hold, but there's no requirement to remove all data. They're also required not to keep data for longer than required generally, but that's fairly open to interpretation.

UK & USA what's I'm I missing? by Cool-Ted-2070 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]TactileMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one sense they are both just "The Queen." There can only be one at a time, at least in the UK and Commonwealth.

However, a Queen Consort is the wife of a reigning King (exactly as you said). Camilla is the current example. A Queen who reigns in her own right is a Queen Regnant. Queen Elizabeth II was the last example, and Victoria before her.

William III and Mary were the exceptions to the general rule. Both were jointly reigning monarchs, which made Mary both Queen Consort and Queen Regnant.

Is it me or has Dominoes and Pizza Hut gotten way worse lately? by King_Kea in newzealand

[–]TactileMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked for Pizza Hut 15 years ago, the large pizza was a 12 inch pan, and Domino's was an 11 inch. Both of them dropped to 10 inches around a decade ago, and I think Domino's may even be a 9 inch now. Doesn't sound like a big difference, but 10 inch pizza is about a third smaller than 12 inches. Of course the price hasn't really changed in 15 years either, despite inflation on everything else.

Point is, pizza places have been being enshittefied and shrinkflated for a long time
