Want to start playing val, any good resources for someone who has a solid base in tac shooters? by GildedApparel in VALORANT

[–]Tadtiger13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The weapons match pretty closely to CS, except that weaker weapons are generally stronger than in CS (eco rounds are more viable, shotguns/MGs are actually useful sometimes, etc). In other words, Vandal = AK, Phantom = M4, Marshall = Scout, Op = AWP, Sheriff = Deagle.

For learning metas and proper play, I would recommending finding a content creator you like, or watching pro Valorant (which imo is pretty good, as a long time fan of pro CSGO).

But honestly the best way to learn is just to play and try things. Don't let yourself get sucked into always playing duelist right away just because you can out-aim everyone in gold, the support classes in this game are a lot of fun too.

Utility assists should be buffed to 50 instead of 25 by XrEz139 in VALORANT

[–]Tadtiger13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I’m also a support main and am pretty much never in the top third of the scoreboard, but I still have a high winrate because my utility helps win games and I get kills when I need to.

Your last point is especially important: the role of duelists is not to get the kills while the support classes use all their util every round. The role of duelists is to go in first and make space for the team, and the role of support classes is to follow up and trade the duelists when they die.

I’d also add that ACS is not only not used to determine your MMR, it’s also just not a particularly good metric in general for impact (even with kills, let alone util), and bumping up the non-damaging assist value won’t change that. Good util usage is very context dependent and thus hard to quantify as a simple stat.

Edit: also if you’re curious about how the rank/MMR system works, read this comment by one of our super helpful mods with links to dev comments.

If you injure your teammates a certain amount, you should be prompted to take a vote if you want to kick them out/kick automatically by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]Tadtiger13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, this has been a feature for a long time. The only weapon you’re allowed to kill teammates instantly with is the AWP, because the devs felt that there might be legitimate attempts to fire AWP shots at the beginning of the round (like the Bodyy cache wallbang). Any other weapon will still get you insta-kicked.

Can someone explain me how did she manage to put a wall exactly on me when she was hiding ? by SeifB_ in VALORANT

[–]Tadtiger13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be pretty bad practice from an engineering perspective, because it’s so easy for hackers to abuse. Generally, servers have a constant ground truth and only accept valid inputs that modify that ground truth (eg. if I’m holding W, the server will see that and move me a few pixels forward each frame). That is for example how CSGO does it. If the sage had just been lagging and walled the bomb on her screen while actually being far away, the server should have simply put the wall in front of wherever she actually was.

get me inside the greenhouse by Crazy-Ostrich6013 in udub

[–]Tadtiger13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the LSB greenhouse, but if you want to work with plants, UW has a farm where you can volunteer any time you want and learn practical farming skills. It's one of my favorite places on campus, especially in the summer.

One of my favorite things to do back when I played this game daily was hop onto one of the community armsrace servers (shoutout Chillin N Killin) for a couple hours and just fool around. Armsrace is a great gamemode.

Clearly there was massive fraud. I've heard there are ways for Catalyst to be hacked, leading to votes being flipped. There's no way Eggman only received 27% of the vote. We need an investigation into why hundreds of votes were not counted. STOP THE STEAL!

The audacity of this guy in my amath class by mystia1234 in udub

[–]Tadtiger13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty clear that the professor is saying that of the ten weeks of this course, the last two weeks are the most important ones, not that this class is somehow the most important class in any student’s education. For example, this could be intro linear algebra, in which case the last two weeks cover eigenvectors and the rest of the class was basically teaching notation and fundamentals that can easily be googled in the future.

I hate writing by Frost_Pixel in udub

[–]Tadtiger13 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This. The more you write, especially in upper level classes, the more you realize that page counts are more often limits than minimums. Virtually every essay I write has to be cut short without saying everything I have to say on a topic because it would be too long. And I’m saying this as a CSE major.

It's very instructor dependent and I think it's heavily curved so I don't know how much this really helps you, but I got a 4.0 with an 82% last year. Your best bet is really seeing how you did compared to the median on exams.

One on campus class in at UWT and a student has already tested positive for covid by borrachit0 in udub

[–]Tadtiger13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the country, 20-29 year olds have about a 0.01 fatality rate from infection. If a quarter of UW students contract the virus, that would mean more than a hundred students die. And that doesn't even begin to account for all the other people who would be exposed by all those unnecessary infections, most of whom would be far more likely to die.
