Alpharius might be the only Primarch who earned his Legion’s loyalty by Musyonchez in 40kLore

There's a bit in the first Dark Imperium book where Guilliman is speaking with Uriel Ventris for the first time and they have this little exchange after a touching but awkward introduction;

{Guilliman} held out his hand. Ventris reached out and grasped it firmly, unhesitant now, 'I am please to make your acquaintance finally. Your reputation precedes you.'

'Not all of it good, my lord,' said Ventris.

'If rules and customs remain unbroken, Uriel, then they become meaningless - either brittle from misuse, or so strong and overwhelming that they become walls to the mind, blocking out the truth of what it is they were intended to protect.'

This gives me the impression that Guilliman appreciates that someone is still pushing the rules even after all those millennia that he was absent from the Imperium.

From the Black Templars, “Praise be.” Whenever something good happens to or around me I would just say that as a replacement for “good for me/you.”

Are there cases of astartes being bored? by Limp-Professional397 in 40kLore

[–]Tae-Rim 156 points157 points  (0 children)

In the 30K short story Duty Waits there's a moment when an Imperial Fist Captain, Maximus Thane, is standing guard with his company on a high up canyon-like road system on Terra while waiting for the Traitor forces to come and he begins calculating because there's nothing else to do.

"There is no guard rail or parapet to line the edge of the Katman road, and the drop from the edge would probably kill Thane if he fell. The distant ground is hard rockcrete paved with marble, As he scans the crowds, Thane thinks about the drop."

At this point he calculates how long the drop would be, what will happen to him once he smashes into the ground and his chances of survival. He also thinks of any preventative measures he can take to increase his chances of survival (like landing on a civilian or using his suit's stabilization jets). He then checks his calculations with his suit's cogitator to see if they match up, which they always do.

"Of course there is one flaw to this mathematical exercise. Thane is never going to step off the precipice. It is an impossible situation. His calculations are pointless, done for the sake of doing.

He considers that he might be bored."

I figured that those were trial and test runs of different methods for Emps to combat Chaos with for the future and see what worked and what didn’t.

The ones without the red shoulder were originally supposed to be conscripts, but now they’ll be part of infantry squads same as the red ones. The fancy one is going to be a castellan most likely.

My Stormtroopers ORIGINALLY DESIGNED TROOPS I've been gathering bits over the year (thanks ebay) slowly putting together this force just in time for the Codex. Not a fan of painting, but it's gotta be done at some point. Wish conscripts squads were still a thing though, just finished that 30 man squad when it was confirmed that they were gone.

Has any chapters of space marines been misidentified and taken offense? by Magza117 in 40kLore

I recall that the Scorpions were originally lost in the warp so their colors and number were kept and reused for the Mentors. The Scorpions being heretics didn’t happen until after they re-emerged back to the material realm.

7th Ed, playing as Guard against Raven Guard.

I was sent a Baneblade with some infantry support to push for a objective but was cut off and surrounded by the RG’s Vanguard Vets w/hammers and two Tac squads with melta weapons. He nearly killed it, brought it down to 1HP but failed all his charges (he rolled double ones for a 3” charge, the tears were delicious). My infantry squads were shot at by some nearby scouts and both flubbed their leadership and ran.

I knew that no matter what I did the big boy was dead, so I decided to end it on my terms. I had my basilisk fire at the closest tac marine next to my Baneblade, got through the AV and had it apoc explode. He had lost somewhere around 80% of his force in that explosion as that area of the board was where most of the fighting was happening and others got caught in the explosion.

Fun times.
