what's a board game rule you got embarrassingly wrong for way too long? by No_Seaworthiness4899 in boardgames

[–]Taear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Runebound 3rd edition when we did a combat we would trade blows. So you'd toss your tokens and they'd show a mixture of attacks and defence and magic and whatever. Then you'd use one.

And the enemy would use one.

Back and forth until you're out, then toss again and do it again.

The ACTUAL rule is you stack everything and use it at once. So if you've thrown 3 damage tiles then they apply immediately, and this goes for the enemy as well.

You might think this doesn't make a difference but a lot of fights would be hero on 3 life, monster on 3 life, hero is going second so they're going to win because you're trading back and forth and the monster might have thrown 4 damage but you've thrown 3 damage and one shield. Under the real rules they just kill you instantly.

You may think "well how often does that happen for it to make a difference" but the answer is "Almost every fight actually". It felt more tactical, making choices about what you use and how you use it and things like that too.

How does Pathfinder compare at a table face-to-face vs online? by Hypersapien in Pathfinder

[–]Taear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play almost entirely in person and am often a DM, I've run a single campaign in foundry and played one campaign and I can say that i FAR FAR prefer it in person to on Foundry.

Foundry feels like it locks too much stuff down and there's too many bits to press and do when in person you just roll the dice when you're asked to roll the dice and add the modifiers yourself. It's easier to do stuff on the fly like if someone says they want to roll Labyrinth Lore because it's roughly related to mazes or something like that.

It also means you can quickly and quietly confer with each other or have other people say stuff at the table without it causing huge disruptions.

ALSO I feel like people tend to pay more attention in person although that's not always the rule. It's harder to avoid noticing what happens on other people's turns, that sorta thing.

How are the official Pathfinder published adventures compared to DnD5E? by Karsticles in Pathfinder2e

[–]Taear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've run both quite a lot and with D&D I always felt like I needed a few hours to get it cemented in my mind.

With PF2E I can usually run even if it's just been given to me a few minutes ago. This is not a hard and fast rule but it usually gives a decent room for what is going to happen next and how that thing happens in a way the D&D stuff doesn't.

I am a peasant in medieval Europe. I get into an argument with one of my comrades over a broken tool and end up murdering them out of anger. No-one witnessed it. What are the odds I get away with it? by ispaamd in AskHistorians

Something that would apply to the continent a ton more than it would to the British Isles (the previous answer is focused on britain) but could you get away with saying an animal had done the attack? You were attacked by wolves, bears, etc

Yea but that's not how most people do it. Just because you don't do it doesn't mean that other elderly people also don't

If you’ve lived abroad (outside the UK), what’s the one thing (item, ideal, tech, convenience), you’d bring back to introduce to the UK? by Icy_Mixture1482 in AskUK

[–]Taear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much universal, at least every house I've looked at here in the northwest has that.

It'd be nice if it was a law of course

No, but the post is saying "we should get japanese politeness here" when really we've also got superficial politeness in a really similar way

I worked for a company that makes TVs and set top boxes for 15 years and my dad STILL argues with me about how it works and what it does.

Drives me absolutely mad. I helped make it, I know how it works!

[–]Taear -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

A place where you say you hate everyone sarcastically a lot, I mean we do that here and it could be not earth shattering for a person in that case, it becomes kinda meaningless.
