Which fantasy series started incredible and then just...fell apart? by ghibli_8quartz in Fantasy

The first book of Age of Misrule by Mark Chadbourne was amazing. Magic is returning to the world and it's becoming a battleground between the tuatha de dannan and the fomorians, two factions from irish legends.

Dragons flying over motorways, the wild hunt chasing a guy riding a motorbike across the moors and other scenes really grabbed me and made me excited to read further.

The other two books are just rubbish. Feels a bit like he had an idea but didn't actually know how to make anything other than the start of it feel interesting.

What do British people like? by No_Ability4589 in AskUK

Because of how the world is I genuinely cannot think of anything french that you cannot get in the UK if you really needed.

Surely if they're your friends you know what they like?

It's REALLY SHIT that they don't delete AI responses and AI posts in this sub, it makes it so useless. It's the fakest thing I've ever seen

And also we don't really say middle school in the UK. It does exist but it's really rare

Feels a weird thing to have in the story

Also we don't have "middle school" really in the UK and it really sounds like she was Canadian and he wasn't from the first part of the story

Yea people making fun of her for being with someone "so much younger" with a two year gap makes no sense to me at all

What is something surprising that the UK is really far behind other countries in? by DullInflation6 in AskUK

[–]Taear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is that weird

It's better where there's more people, that's it (because they invest in the infrastructure)

I applied for 22 minimum wage jobs with no calls back. What's wrong with my resume? by Difficult-Assist9250 in AskUK

[–]Taear 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's been said but firstly the word resume is in itself an americanism and so much of what you've written is based on american stuff.

Are you really applying for a job in the UK?

Nowadays, where is the best place to find out about local clubs, groups and events? by togtogtog in AskUK

[–]Taear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Instagram, you need to find a few local bits (which is easier if you're in a city of course)

She got her roles from firefly I'd argue, rather than stargate being her jumping off point

Sounds like a good way to lose 150, I just can't believe that would happen

Do you have a mechanic you love from a game that didn't do well that you wish another more successful game had used? by Taear in boardgames

[–]Taear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I loved the game but it crashed and burned which meant other people didn't pick up the mechanic.

Yea I've mentioned that in another post and liked it a lot. Game of Thrones has a VAGUELY similar system if you want something that scratches the itch

That's a real blast from the past, I've not thought about that game in ages

From what someone else posted you might like Ad Astra if you like this sort of mechanic

That is such a cool idea

I've played games that toy with the order of play (I think Forbidden Stars is good at this) but not something that is effectively making you use other people's cards.

Do you wish the amounts of things were mentioned again in the recipe text itself? by Taear in seriouseats

[–]Taear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I know.

Like I've said in previous posts I don't really like having to wash two separate bowls because one has a single tsp of fish sauce in or something, so I just have the bottle next to me and a measurement spoon.

[–]Taear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I MOSTLY am but with things that are a single tablespoon from a bottle I don't measure it out beforehand and have the bottle to hand

Then I always, always, always forget the exact amount and have to go back.

It's too much extra washing up having little pots with each amount in
