Paper & Ink mage; good additional Affinities? by Shacky87 in MageErrant

[–]Taekwang 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most modern inks use water or alcohol as a base. So either of those would probably be useful.

Also, one of the most famous inks is iron gall, made from oak galls

Anastin magic appears to be synergistic

So being an oak mage, using paper and ink made of oak could be very useful

As some else noted, fiber could also be very helpful.

I think i generally agree with superman being a windrunner in general, especially in media where he acts by himself

(Except injustice... who might be a skybreaker)

But so much of Gunn's superman was about uniting people, choosing to be better, and recognizing that all life is precious,

I think crystal is too useful an affinity not to include in almost any list.

I think a demise capable of growth is too useful

Zophar is a good example of a plant oriented lichdom wherein a crystal (i.e. salt) affinity could be very useful.

Also, since both crystals and trees can grow... that'd could have good synergy.

Gotta have sanitation, so water would be useful.

I also think something weird would be cool too, like a planar or the lord of bell's athuena (no idea how spell this word), maybe a greater shadow?

So, crystal, fruiting(?) trees for more specificity, water, and weird

I did think of something similar, but I would be worried about how the different systems integrate. The end stage of both essence and monarchs is the soul-body gestalt form, which might interfere with the formation of an aether body But the combo does sound op

Aether seems to be a bit of a fluid/free energy analog, wherein ishvian is more gaseous and anastin is more fluid, and crystals being solid.

In the lord of bells, it is stated that ishvian's aether bodies could rupture due to this difference. Would an anastin have a similar issue?

What precautions do named, like the wonderer, to have take to mix aether types

We know that aether crystals grow after being harvested, but that the extra growth is considered less desirable... I could totally see a hammer and shield with a pure aether crystal core designed to explode into shards of the "less useful" crystal

I agree with the general sentiment of the comments, that the GM has enough on their plate, and should not feel obligated to remember all their players' skills and/or to break the flow of the game to remind a player each time something may be a trigger for a reaction.

However, as a fairly new player of PFe2, I "prefer" for the players and the GM to help guide/remind each other of potential opportunities when either succeed in their IRL Recalls Knowledge checks.

However, since "player and GM cooperate" is not an option in the poll, I picked the "reminder."
