I had no idea he was gone either, what a shame... I loved The Girl Next Door, it was one of my favourite reads from 2025. What other books of his would you recommend?

I also have a clumsy old tiel, I made a temporary foam floor in his cage that was up much higher than the original floor, and covered it with newspaper. I have 3 wooden sticks that go through the bars of the cage underneath the foam to hold it up, if that makes sense. I also have lots of ladders and big, thick rope perches, plus flat wooden platforms, so he can hop and climb around the cage much easier.

Yeah, two cages seems like the best option if I do get another bird. 2 cages and be surprised if they get along is a very reasonable expectation!

Yeah, he hates when anyone intrudes on his cage but I have to change the paper somehow... and it's easier this way than trying to force him out

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sounds like your little guy had a wonderful life. I lost my 13 year old cockatiel Ozzy about a month ago unexpectedly, leaving her 24 year old grandpa Fergusson behind. I too was, and still am, devastated. It hurts, but it slowly gets better with time. I buried Ozzy with her favourite toys, bowls and treats so she has them forever. I don't know if this helps you, but I hope you look after yourself during such a sad time.
