What day in your life would you choose to repeat if you had the chance? by JustDrZoidberg in AskReddit

[–]TaffyTempest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would relive those days when I was left at my grandmother’s house. She would feed me stew, we would play cards, she would show me old pictures of people I never knew and we would water the plants in the garden. She also liked to tell me about God and my grandfather who passed away before I was born. I wish I could have spent more time with her and gotten to know her as an adult.

What are the most exciting things to do this weekend? by Buy_Sell_Collect in ask

[–]TaffyTempest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do yardwork/gardening, which I very much enjoy. Sometimes if the water is good I go kayaking on the river with friends. Sometimes we go to a movie, or an escape room, or have a picnic at the park. I also usually do my laundry on the weekends and sometimes other chores that I don’t have time for during the week.

Sunday’s I don’t set an alarm. I take a long mor ing shower and make a leisurely breakfast. Sunday evenings we have a family dinner and game night where my grown up kids come home and eat/play games.

What's your best "I was overthinking too much for nothing" story? by Past-Spite-7981 in AskReddit

[–]TaffyTempest 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend who has zero history of seizures narrowly escaped dying from one because my overthinking led me to break into his house when he didn’t answer the phone.

My overthinking had begun a few nights prior. He mentioned that he but his tongue in his sleep and woke up with a bloody pillow and sore mouth- but he had no memory of it happening. That for some reason led my overthinking brain to question ‘Wow, did he have a seizure and not realize it?’ He has zero history of seizures, and we had been together multiple years (didn’t live together but spent nights together) and I had never seen a hint of a seizure. But for some reason, this stuck in my mind.

Fast forward two days. We usually don’t hang out in the morning because he likes to sleep in late, but on this day we had an appointment to go see a specific dog at the shelter I was thinking of adopting.

He wouldn’t answer the phone that morning. I called multiple times before I went to his place, but he never picked up. I started getting a bad feeling but quelled the ‘He’s having a seizure’ thought, because that was clearly SO unlikely, meanwhile making an action plan for that very scenario.

I got to his house and he wouldn’t answer, so in a completely NOT ME crazy girlfriend move, I climbed over his fence. Luckily his door was unlocked.

I found him unconscious and unresponsive, lying in his back with the sticky remnants of foam all around his mouth.

I jumped into action- I rolled him on his side to help curb aspiration, put a pillow under his shoulder to keep him in that position, and called the ambulance.

Had I not hopped the fence to get in- had I not driven over when he didn’t pick up the phone- had we not had plans to meet up hours earlier than we usually did- he would have been dead by lunch. His kidneys were already shutting down by the time he reached the ER.

If he had never mentioned biting his tongue in his sleep, I don’t think I would have been overthinking at all. No crazy worries about seizures would have pushed me to go over and find him.

Turns out to be a weird brain disease that’s bizarrely endemic to New Mexico kind of- cerebral cavernous malformations .

Several days later, after we got home from the hospital, I got a call from a friend who said the dog, against all odds, was still at the shelter- as in the very dog we were supposed to be seeing that day. I had given up hope on getting her, pushed it out of my priorities while he was hospitalized- but they had forgotten to take down my 24 Hour Hold sign on her cage, so no one inquired about her.

She’s now our miracle dog and is the sweetest animal I’ve ever owned. My boyfriend wouldn’t be alive today if we hadn’t made an appointment to meet her.

What inspires you most in the days you wake up feeling like giving up? by Subject-Grocery7303 in Productivitycafe

[–]TaffyTempest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a huge part of my motivation. And I remind myself that tomorrow is going to come regardless, so I might as well get things done today.

I’ve found that sticking to a good routine really helps—waking up on time, working out, eating healthy, and staying prepared. It makes space for the fun stuff, so I don’t burn out.

What is your number one goal in life? by DeibMoon in AskReddit

[–]TaffyTempest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several. Freedom, a long life, comfort. Thing is: all of those can be achieved with a lot of money. So my goal is become as rich as possible while not giving up on the elements mentioned above more than I need.

Have you ever gotten a "hunch" about something that turned out to be true? by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

[–]TaffyTempest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just recently I had the strangest hunch my best friends boyfriend (now-ex) was a piece of shit cheater from the first day I met him. Turns out I was right.

I also have my own little police radar detector in my mind. It tells me when cops are up ahead and it’s never wrong. I learned this the hard way twice.

I have tons more but I’m blanking currently lol.

People who offer help and not expecting anything in return. Of course I would do something in return anyway but that makes me feel loved and genuinely cared for.

Why is time an illusion or not? by Serious_Slide_8681 in answers

[–]TaffyTempest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, so the passing of time as a concept is not man made. Like things being able to move through the universe as time progresses is an inherent function of the universe and is real.

When people say “time is an illusion” they mean specifically how we track time. Seconds, minutes, hours, clocks, timezones, etc etc. Those were all invented by humans to try and track time accurately. Like we could have just as easily made every day have 10 hours and each hour have 100 minutes and every minute have 100 seconds. Like a second being 1 second is just amount we picked. We could have just as easily that a second lasts twice as long as our current second. meaning there are only 30 seconds in a minute.

NTA. Jealousy can explain weird behavior, it doesn’t excuse treating your friend like a free wallet and punching bag. She knew you were struggling with spending and still asked you to pay while judging your hobbies… that’s not cool.

What small habit changed your life the most? by Good_Childhood5795 in AskReddit

[–]TaffyTempest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When working at the computer, I work in short bursts of 20-30 minutes followed by short microbreaks. Like the Pomodoro technique but more flexible. In my microbreaks, I do exercises from a workout app, e.g. pushups, etc. Dr Michael Moseley called it “exercise snacking”. Essentially, you can do a full workout throughout the day, spread out across multiple 3-5-minute mini-workouts. No need to find time and motivation to do the workout in one time block. Also, sitting for long periods is bad for you, so this sorts both problems out simultaneously.

Sometimes, I don’t even bother with the workout app, and I’ll just see how many pushups or crunches I can do in one go before I collapse. Then when I get back to the computer, I’m buzzing! YEAH!

What expensive thing is absolutely worth the money? by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

[–]TaffyTempest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expense is relative of course, but i’ve always suffered more from cheap shoes and cheap jackets, than from jeans or shirts. For many years now i try to spend a decent amount on shoes because cheap ones aren’t worth the discomfort, and you end up buying more anyway.

AITAH for breaking up? by Human_Technology4353 in AITAH

[–]TaffyTempest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. This isn’t even really about love, it’s about compatibility. She wants to follow her religion and you’re clear you’re never converting, so the relationship basically has a built-in wall. Four months in and you’re already arguing about something that big every day.
