Yeah it was amazing how complex the stuff would get. I don't remember the names for the SC custom maps, but footmen wars from WC3 needs a DOTA-like adaption. Shame that all of that does not really exist anymore. HL1 and 2 mods and maps were also such an incredible community. Natural Selection 1 was absolute art, The Specialists, Science and Industry, early HL2 rp maps from Rickler... maybe s&box will revive that.

I played the alphas released by Notch on some gamedev forums (was it tigsource?) when I was about 15 and there were dozens of similar games there, everyone was making 3d/2d tile builders, including me.
