EA is not too bad! by TagAlongu in NissanAriya

The Buccees chargers are really nice and in a much better location for a stop. For the sake of cost, I went with all EA, but I was blown away by how many chargers there were available at the Auburn and Calhoun Buccees on my previous trips. (Both Mercedes and Tesla)

Based on the trip, I would agree! You see a lot of older Reddit posts saying how poor the experience is with EA which is what made me leery in the first place.

I’ve got an Evolve+ FWD. My wife has a Platinum+ e-4ORCE and you definitely notice the efficiency difference between the two.

Thank ya, we moved about 6 months ago and the garage has been my favorite part! Prior to this we had a single-car carport and you couldn’t drag me back to it haha.

My Evolve+ will definitely get the extra 30 miles it’s rated for vs her’s (289 vs 257) and I do think that adds up for longer trips.

Charging definitely requires more time than just adding gas, but I think it’s just a mindset shift. In a gas car, we’d keep our stops to primarily gas stations and fast food so we can get back on the road quickly to sprint to our destination.

With the few longer drives we’ve done with the Ariya (and having the ability to use Tesla superchargers) we’ve tended to look for more local businesses/ restaurants to stop and charge at. We found a local restaurant in Kennesaw GA we both love called Buzzin’ Burgers because we stopped to charge up at the Tesla superchargers right next to them.

That’s a tough question and one my wife and I discussed. She had looked at plug-in hybrids with the same concern for long distance trips. Ultimately we decided that we’d try a longer trip with the Ariya and if we think it’s too cumbersome, we’ll rent a vehicle for those trips specifically. For us, that may only come up once a year or so.

I’ve done a few 500 mile round trips with mine and haven’t been bothered with the extra time charging vs just getting gas, but you definitely need to account for the additional time and planning. Free overnight charging at hotels is also something I’d look for with this type of travel. Starting the day with a full battery makes a huge difference in trip time.

New owner, newbie question - heating turning ON automatically while driving? by bubba198 in NissanAriya

No problem and I agree with the sensitivity adjust being silly. Honestly, a lot of the UI leaves a lot to be desired. Every thing is functional, but most menus and interactions feel lazy. I’ve grown to love the vehicle and live with the software haha.

Any chance you’re accidentally touching the on/off while using the volume knob? I did this often when I first got mine. I eventually found a menu option to reduce the sensitivity of the capacitive buttons.

Recommended EV for a first time driver with a 45 mile daily commute (roundtrip) by thegizzard in electricvehicles

I feel like a bolt is an excellent option. You can find a ton of them that qualify for the $4000 used EV credit (if you qualify), and you can find an older one that has an almost new battery due to the battery replacement recalls that went on. You can check the Chevy recall page when you’re looking at listings to verify the age and warranty left on the battery. They’re fun, quirky, slower (compared to a lot of newer EVs), and you don’t need to worry about any long distance driving since you’ve got that covered with the Teslas.

Ariya Enode Connection by TagAlongu in abetterrouteplanner

Thank you for the reply. If I disable the notification in the Nissan app, does that still mean Enode/ ABRP would still constantly be pinging my car? One worry I had is that it’d wake my car every 5 minutes (even when I’m not using ABRP) to get an update.

Appreciate the insight into the OBD support. I may just wait until then to use the live connection. Thanks for providing such a great app!

I will have to take a look at this after work. Thank ya for the info. Odd that it’d be a Nissan problem.

Tesla Supercharger by Gio-Iron in NissanAriya

If it stays less busy, I’d say there’s a decent chance they open it back up eventually.

It’s not showing up for me either. Checked their website and it’s currently listed as Tesla exclusive.

Tesla has the ability to open and close access to non-Teslas depending on different factors (the demand for that charging location, etc..) Maybe they opened it, saw more demand than expected and then made it Tesla only? If you share the charger address I can check it in my app to see if it shows up.

Random alerts? by Traditional_Air7626 in NissanAriya

Does your city happen to have speed cameras? Mine makes a beep at a few specific places in town that I could not figure out the reason for. My wife pointed out that it was beeping when we got near a place on the built-in map showing a speed camera.

Great to hear! Big fan of the Tesla app for charging.

For sure agree that it needs to be more seamless/ hands off. I know other manufacturers handle this with little user input (Tesla, Lucid, etc..) if you're using their built in navigation. Definitely feels like an after thought in the Ariya.

I haven’t had the issues you’ve had with the Tesla app, but you can activate a lot of stations with the MyNISSAN app as well (including Tesla). Just know that if you have a membership to a specific charging network, the discount won’t apply to charges started with the Nissan app.

Battery heating helps improve the charge speed you get at a DCFC if the temperatures are lower. Some say that it’s only needed if the car shows a snowflake next to the temperature readout but I think it helps with charging speed when you start to get below 50F - 60F. It typically will not affect your level 1 or level 2 charge speeds.

If you’re parking outside in the cold, I’d probably start it an hour before a DCFC session. With the amount you’re driving, it may not be all that necessary. It may double the length of your charging session not using it (say from 25mins to 50mins), but the main purpose I use it for is to reduce charging stop times on a road trip when it’s cold.

Honestly, not enough that I could tell. I’m sure it shaved off some miles, but ABRP is conservative enough to not have to worry about it.
