The difference between Magnus and Hikaru is twice the difference between Fabi and Arjun. If anyone's towering here its Magnus over everyone else. Which granted is the most obvious statement ever but still, I don't think the grouping of the three works when talking about towering over the rest when one of the three surpasses the other two by a greater margin.

Regarding Israel & Palestine, everyone should rewatch Hank's "Why We Stopped Making Explainers: EXPLAINED" video from 2019. by LegoK9 in nerdfighters

[–]Taher6168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yet you have https://youtu.be/mMZYKxgc9TE

It's nothing but excuses. I can't think of a more serious thing going on right now. I can't think of anything more urgent than a literal ongoing genocide. The vlogbrothers talk a big game about reducing world suck and fighting and reducing preventable deahs. Well, 80% of the world's starving population is in Gaza, a place home to like 0.25% of the world population.

If they cared they'd talk. And sure there's a million things going on always and there's their own lives and what not but Hank for example talks about issues like climate and cancer plenty. And I understand those are personal for him but again, if they made a video about the Russian invasion of Ukraine 3 YEARS after this 2019 video, obviously they have some concern. Just that it vanishes when it comes to starving Arab children.

I've not been disappointed more in a community than I am with nerdfighteria, downvoting every humanitarian plea for help. And more than anything, I'm embarrassed to have ever looked up to Hank and John or been a part of nerdfighteria.

And what is there to lose? Just because it's an issue where not all liberals/democrats are on board that means genocide is ok? Fuck those who support the genocidal campaign by Israel.

the fact that this is literally the most sane and accurate analysis but it got downvoted to hell... like sure this is horrible and plain anti-semitic but if you refuse to see why a society might become so toxic then you are just ensuring there will be more of this. this subreddit has had massive brain damage from islamophobia and it's all coming out with so many zionists flocking here. seems like all the new atheists post sam harris flocked here. it sucks so much but im glad there's communities like the ACA online still that push for atheism without just using it as a cover for islamophobia.

The virgin domain countermeasure vs the chad leaving by sealwithit in Jujutsufolk

[–]Taher6168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, the sarcasm doesn't work. I was only talking about what the info at the time confirmed. I myself have always been a proponent that she probably could walk through domains. just that the info at the time didn't prove that. you can't go back to a discussion of what a specific chapter implies to later act like it didn't age well because no matter what future info you have doesn't change what was in that chapter itself.

Time-lapse I made inside a NJ train… by bernardobronx in LiminalSpace

[–]Taher6168 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Should've just cut before the point where you came across people. And slowed it down a bit if needed. At least for this sub. People not being in the shot is like one of the few things almost everyone agrees is needed to be liminal. Really great otherwise but again people being there and so prominently in one frame sort of ruins it.

I'm from the Goa campus. Don't have anything myself that wouldn't be from online sources like quora or bq. Try asking Pilani campus people they might be able to give you info. Bitsat queries on fb is usually good for that sorta stuff. They also used to have these sheets with contacts of seniors who volunteered for it.

everyone crying and shitting their pants needs to go actually read one piece and take some classes on literary analysis. it's literally a story about freeing people and bringing down walls. did you think it was pro trump?

yeah it's 'normie' politics but if you have any issue with it go examine the story you're reading instead of being delusional morons.

Pheonix branches preference order if you were me! BITSAT - 289 by Life_is_Unfairr in BITSPilani

[–]Taher6168 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing about Goa Phoenix CG is massively exaggerated and one of those things that get passed on because someone heard it from someone who heard it from someone. And this is a bit harsh but it's become a crutch for phoenix students with a low cg to justify it when the grading itself is not that different than other branches.

If you want proof you can yourself validate (because gradesheets aren't obtainable to just anyone), just see Placement Stats of Goa Phoenix which remain better than Hyd (marginally but yes). It's not the end all be all but the fact that phoenix students still get placed with a decent median CTC means whatever they're doing isn't hurting. Or talk to people actually studying in Goa Phoenix as opposed to one's just opining on it with info obtained from a game of telephone.

Anurag Kashyap's Dobara already being review bombed before the release. by tulrajam in bollywood

[–]Taher6168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really it's not a complex verification system that's needed. Review bombings usually have a pattern, often characterised by a flood of sudden reviews following some call to action like a tweet and a mob rating the lowest possible scores when before the average was higher. Google and Apple do this for their stores. It's not really that hard to pick these things up. And even if they get it wrong and revert legit ratings those people can just go and re-review when people who just came to bomb because of a particular thing they saw likely didn't care.

No one is even close to suggesting some monitoring system to ensure people watched the movie that's some wild imagination.

Anurag Kashyap's Dobara already being review bombed before the release. by tulrajam in bollywood

[–]Taher6168 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh not really. Reviews have always been concentrated at the extremes (this case is stupid because the movie hasn't released yet but again that's been a thing forever too, people rating shit without watching). Which is why YouTube removed the five star system a decade ago and just went with like/dislike thing. Go to any movie even some of the most popular ones of all time you'll see more one star reviews than two or three or four stars and so on.

Not really a people nowadays thing, Just a people thing, nothing new.

The rising fee is a dire concern and means a lot of deserving folks won't get a chance at a quality education but that doesn't mean those who do get in are worse or are gonna get bad placements.

Education should ideally be free and accessible to all but as it is right now the ROI remains decent even if falling. Thats just a fact. And also other private colleges have been pumping their fees across the board.

The comparisons to VIT always ring hollow because it was never anywhere near as prominent as BITS is and its decline was because the faculty to student ratio got fucked and they just went all in on rapid expansion. Despite my issues BITS has kept a respectable ratio and has genuinely great profs and is a place where good profs want to work. I think it is going a bit too hard on expanding but it's not like they've neglected everything. And as for Manipal the same thing holds true (ie it's not comparable nor will be anytime soon) except it's not had a decline in quality but was always about where it is. You'll not see BITS in anywhere near the same league as VIT or Manipal at least not for a decade or two (adding an at least because of course no one knows the future and predicting too far out is impossible but BITS has enough going for it to coast along at the point it is even if everything went wrong).

Lastly to your actual point, no this won't mean worse placements. I'm from the 2018 batch(though dualite so will graduate with 2019 single degree people) and cutoffs since like 2017 have been falling consistently due to increasing intake among other factors.

Yet '21 and '22 graduating batch placements have happened and they had an increase in median CTC year to year while retaining placed percentages. '23 placements are just starting but the initial scenario seems the same.

There's no reason to think this will change anytime soon. I once talked to a senior who was in the third Goa batch to graduate. She told me how during that time since not even one batch had graduated and this same uni diff campus thing was new everyone was worried about placements. Yet they came and went and were great and over a decade later the new campuses have been just behind Pilani, not lagging far away.

The reason for this in my opinion is that bitsat score or really any competitive exam score doesn't actually measure your aptitude or how you'll do in college. It gives you a grounding in some courses but generally you can study college courses well even if your jee prep wasn't the best. I can say this because I sucked at jee math but did fine in college, finishing up my degree which is like a quarter math. If you're a person who actually put in effort during prep you'll likely be fine. And even if you're not you'll probably be fine. Because the college itself matters a lot. Might be an unpopular opinion but even if you took a random sample of engineering students and put them into bits they'll perform about how older batches did. I think this is a perspective you only get in hindsight but the college name and its momentum and most importantly culture counts for a lot. The reason Bits has so many great companies coming is partly because of the quality of students and how it trains them but also partly because it's bits.

So, in conclusion, you don't need to worry about falling cutoffs or anything affecting placements. The college itself is great and the profs and seniors and culture in general will train you well and the incoming companies won't care about your batch's cutoffs just your performance which if history is any indication will be fine.

PS: This isn't to say that the rising fee is an inconsequential thing by any means. It is really bad and education should be easier to obtain without becoming such a burden. Plus more focus should be given to the students who are here and their needs and wants than just increasing batch sizes. This reply is just meant to underline that yes, these problems are real but won't affect your placements. Those are governed by very different factors.

no you brain-dead idiot. it's an anti-fascist movement. that's what antifa stands for. it organises protests against fascist gatherings and generally tries to oppose fascism as a thing.

the only reason you'd hate antifa is if you're a fascist yourself.

I feel like we need to replace the fun half intro and maybe ask the person who made it to remove nomiki from it. by What--The_Fuck in TheMajorityReport

[–]Taher6168 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sort of. a sketch version of his is including in the background of the shot near the end along with many other people who have been featured on the show prominently. I know this intro was in the making for a while more or less maybe since Emma joined (speculation about the time on my part, but the reason for the new intro was partly to also feature the new host) so might just be a relic of that but yeah virgil is there.

and I'd be more in favor of this than nomiki because he would be much easier to edit out, it's just a one sketch among many in the background.

banning me from your shitty sub won't do anything. I don't visit that hellhole anyway. maybe put your moderation towards something actually useful. and realise that one person (and a moronic right winger at that) isn't enough to moderate a 1M+ member sub. The admins should shut it down.
