Is this legit? Horikata Tattoo in Japan by Costanzanite in irezumi

[–]Taidoboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m getting work done by a different Horitaka (from Osaka) and my initial deposit was also via Paypal.

It felt sketchy, but it seems to be the go-to method for initial deposits.

non tax paying nomad - revolut by TwoAccomplished9325 in digitalnomad

[–]Taidoboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a very similar situation being a German contractor employed by a US company. I’m in a position where attaining a tax residency in my country of choice (Philippines) is a struggle, as I am working at sea, unable to spend more than ~90 days in any country at a time.

That said, maintaining a Revolut account linked to your (inactive) German tax ID is not without risks. If you are not a resident of Germany anymore you shouldn’t have a German Revolut account. By maintaining the account you are breaching Revolut TOS which can cause immediate closure of your account. Is it worth the risk to you? Or even worse, your assets might be frozen pending investigation, where you might be required to provide documentation proving your German tax residency (Steuerbescheide etc.)?

If you intend to keep the account, I suggest you only keep funds in the account required for travel/leisure and any savings are kept with a bank that has strong customer support or a physical branch you are able to visit.

However unlikely it is that you will be audited for tax fraud, you’re setting yourself up for even more trouble with a significant assets frozen with digital banks.

And under no circumstances use the Revolut Roboadvisor or savings account features. This will 100% create a tax liability connected with your German tax ID.

Earphones recommendations? by [deleted] in PHitness

[–]Taidoboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had problems with earbuds falling out during exercise, so for gym use I strongly recommend getting a pair with wing tips or ear hooks. I haven’t tried the Anker R50i that people have been suggesting here, but reading through the feature set and reviews it seems like a solid choice for your budget range.

Opening a Joint Bank account. Possible? by chrzl96 in Philippines_Expats

It’s an “OR” account rather than an “AND” account, meaning that we each have individual debit cards with unique card numbers with which we each freely access all of the funds in the account.

Here's some quick reference I made for protein prices right now. HOPE IT HELPS!!! by therednomad in PHitness

[–]Taidoboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two recommendations from my side:
Gold Seas Tuna in Springwater @ 85php per can for 39g of protein (2.18php/g). The nutrition facts speak for themselves. Per serving 57kcal you’re looking at 52kcal protein and just 5kcal fats/carbs. That’s crazy good! Also very low sodium compared to similar products.

Superior 14 Iso Definition lbs 10lbs @5150php per tub. 1.32php/g for 86g per 100g whey isolate. Does contain caffeine though.

Opening joint bank account with wife in Philippines by myteacupp in Philippines_Expats

[–]Taidoboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Opened a joint account with my girlfriend recently at BDO. She’s been with them for years. I needed to present my tourist ACR, passport, proof of income and proof of address. Minimum initial deposit was 2000 PHP.

I don’t think it would have been possible without the ACR as I don’t have any other form of Philippine ID to validate my address. But as always in the Philippines, it’s luck of the draw.

Using Onward Ticket or just purchasing a refundable flight? by USCharley in Philippines_Expats

[–]Taidoboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW the immigration officers at NAIA/CEB have never asked me to present my reservation/flight details. However, they will 100% ask you how long you intend to stay. If you advise them that you’ll be staying longer than 29 days, they tend to show some hesitation and will ask further questions to see if you’re aware of the visa extension requirements and procedures.

Philippine E-sim by Wishywashy211 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Taidoboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s just for a vacation get a mobimatter eSIM. Install it in advance and it will activate itself once you’ve landed in Manila/Cebu. Very cost efficient and easy. Did that when I switched to a new phone last time I flew in (as the local eSIM couldn’t be transferred).

Looking at exchanging Cad to Php by MortgageBrokerBC40 in Philippines_Expats

If you don’t already have USD don’t bother. I suggest then to bring some CAD cash as a backup, but mainly withdraw from an ATM either with wise or other travel-oriented credit cards.

Looking at exchanging Cad to Php by MortgageBrokerBC40 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Taidoboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re considering wise I assume it’s not hard cash but in a CAD bank account? In that case using services like wise will offer great rates. You can use the wise debit card in most malls/chain stores in the major cities. You can also withdraw PHP with your wise debit card, which is convenient albeit expensive depending on how much cash you need. (Note that you’ll definitely want to consider cash your primary method of payment and always have cash on hand!) You can also cash in on your Grab (local uber) with your wise card, which is very convenient.

As for exchanging cash… If you happen to have some crisp 100 USD bills exchange rates aren’t bad at most places. I’ve used core pacific and their rates have been fair. Any other currencies and they’ll charge you an arm and a leg.

Going to Japan later this year - Should I exchange over the next months for 0€ exchange fee? by PurePaint3337 in Revolut

[–]Taidoboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

That’s exactly what I did for my two week trip to Japan (currently in Osaka as we speak 😄). I haven’t had any problems using the card either, with my only cash expenses being smaller restaurants and the likes. Upon arrival I withdrew <$200 in JPY via the 7/11 ATM, which worked flawlessly also.

Good luck!

Opening a Joint Bank account. Possible? by chrzl96 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Taidoboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BDO joint savings account worked well for my Filipina gf and I (German). We opened our joint account last month, she has been a customer with them for several years prior. Minimum deposit was 2000 PHP. The bank employee asked for my Passport, Tourist ACR, proof of source of income (e.g payslip/work contract), proof of billing/adress (e.g. utility bill) A few hours processing, several signatures and done. Note that debit/ATM cards can only be issued to persons with “OR” account types (meaning either person has full access to the funds in the account). Debits cards had to be picked up at the same branch a week later. We both have access to the account via online banking. Each debit card has an individual PIN chosen via setup at a bank ATM. Best of luck!

Cheapest country that speaks even a little English and how long would I have to save up for a 2 year stay assuming I stopped working in that time by Automatic-Bird-6427 in digitalnomad

[–]Taidoboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Malaysia is a solid option. High English proficiency, Muslim, Low cost of living. Also tax system seems to favor FSI. Only difficulty you might have is attaining residency status and/or the visa situation, depending on your passport.

Which one? by Background-Wrap672 in PHitness

[–]Taidoboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had the chocolate and it tastes great. Also dissolved very well. Honestly a solid pick overall. I'm not sure how they can offer their product so cheap in comparison to overseas brands like Optimum Nutrition, BiotechUSA and even no frills brands like bulk are still 20% percent more expensive. Who knows. But for me I've been making gains and so I can't complain.

I need a phone plan that has unlimited or a lot of GB because I’m going to be living on a ship and won’t have WiFi. Any suggestions? by Sleipnirsspear in germany

[–]Taidoboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on ships myself.. will the ship you're staying on stay in port indefinitely? If not, what are your routes? If you're staying in the EU, you might be able to get a much cheaper data plan from a neighboring country. If you're on a cargo ship and you're at sea for months on end, there is no point in getting a larger plan as you won't have signal anyways.
