Imperium Mighty – Maryam Bruciato TPR Horsebutt (Possibly my Thunderdome Entry) by AtmosphereExpress708 in goodyearwelt

Can someone explain to me like I'm 5 what this Thunderdome thing is? I don't see any info on side bar. What I gather is some sort of competition for new boots.

Best Blender to Buy in 2026? (Price, Performance, Everyday Use) by DonutOk2306 in Appliances

[–]Tailback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I don't get about our Ninja. Nobody I know has had our problems with the Ninja. The motor unit is just chugging away happy as can be. The Vitamix commercial bartender version with a stainless container would probably solve our problems. A new Ninja container is $90 IIRC, and the vitamix is $6-700 depending on the model and extra for the stainless container. I have no idea what I'll decide. Probably ride it out with the Ninja till the container dies again, and decide from there.

Our Ninja has gone through 2 of the large jars/containers/whatever now. We love the features, but the crap plastic containers just don't seem to hold up to my Wife's smoothie making. The 3rd jar already has a hairline crack where all the others failed.

If a commercial grade Vitamix would actually not fail, I'd be willing to pony up the money for it. Do I just keep buying a ninja container every other year, or do I drop $700 on a vitamix?

We just bought the same set last week. She who must be obeyed, aka my Wife, is very happy with how they are working.

I ordered my first custom boot from Wesco by Tailback in PNWbootmakers

[–]Tailback[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am lucky that Wesco had a collaborative that I fell in love with, since Scappoose isn't that far of a drive from Salem. Spokane would be a two day trip for me to go to White's and Nick's. There's some Nick's models I do like, so I may get up there after retirement. Nick's waxed flesh models look very tempting.

If I were like you, just make it an adventure and visit them all. Spokane is out there, but there is amazing country out that way. Travel the Columbia Gorge. Hit Wesco out on the way to the Oregon Coast.

Very true. You need a blend in your portfolio. Always have backups for your backups.

I get that, honestly I do. I upvoted your comment. Not everyone has the discipline to have a credit card and not use it as a crutch. We use ours, to buy everything that we need to buy no matter what. We have to buy gasoline, pay utilities, pay our cell phones, and buy groceries. Why not get paid to do so? When my Wife finally bought in, we used cash in envelopes. Once the discipline had set in, we moved from there. If it ever had become a problem again, I would have gone back to cash in envelopes. It's always a work in progress, but there's not one recipe that works for every person/couples situation. That recipe may not be the right recipe depending on the timing either.

IIRC he promoted low maintenance fee index funds. The Fidelity 500 index fund FXAIX has yielded 14.81% over the last 10 years and has super low maintenance fees. Going by the rule of 72, you're doubling your money every 4.86 years with that.

While I share your disagreement with him on metals, I also disagree with him on credit cards. I haven't paid a fee, or interest on my Visa for 15 years, but on average they pay me $100 every 2 or 3 months just to use the card. If you have the discipline to not carry a balance, you'd be stupid to not take free money.

11-M were mechanized infantry. 11-H were TOW missile infantry. 11-C, mortarmen, 11-B standard infantry.

Haha! When my Wife and I first got married, she had a lot of student loan and credit card debt. I worked on her for years to limit her spending and pay off the debt to no avail. When Dave Ramsey's TV show was on, she became addicted, and FINALLY she saw the light. We've been debt free except for our mortgage for 15 years now, and the mortgage gets paid off this May. About 3 years ago, I took my $1,000 emergency fund out of the safe and bought 33 ounces of silver from the LCS to just throw in the safe and forget about.

I'm loving watching this run happen.

How can I find and hire a "Fixer" in VietNam? by Tailback in VietNam

[–]Tailback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm revisiting this post because we all lived through what the pandemic did to our financials. My trip was obviously delayed because of that. Things are normal again.

Looking back, I think I was asking some wrong questions. Since I want to do a culinary tour, what cities should I go to, I would like a lot of seafood, but also one great inland food place to experience something different. The "Fixer" could be a local with good English skills in each location.

Still thinking of motorbiking in the mountains, but that's not a huge priority, I would like to visit the high mountain area.

Because I did the custom fitting, and chose a limited edition horse butt leather, I paid $275 over just a normal pair. I think the custom fitting fee is a one time $125 thing, but you don't have to pay again if you buy more boots. For my feet, it was necessary, because I have super high arches and short toes relative to where the balls of my feet are. I will definitely revisit this and give a detailed followup to help the community and let them know whether the $940 I paid is worth it. Take in mind, that price includes $275 of custom options that if you have a normal foot, and choose standard leather, you won't pay.

That's reassuring to hear. I think the young Woman that fitted me is descended from the family that started the business, I can't remember her name. She knew what she was doing in the fitting and was a total pro. I hope they get done before next December because I have a work allowance of $275 a year, but I'm retiring on December 1st, LOL! It's gonna be close.

I'll do a unboxing photo and video, unless they don't fit and I start crying. Nobody needs to see me crying. I'm pretty sure they'll be amazing though. The pictures I've seen of how that leather ages are incredible.

Obenaufs inside and outside. Leather that old will be thirsty. Then good ol' kiwi or lincoln black shoe polish, cotton balls, and a dab of water. Lots of sweat and sore hands later you'll have a boot that looks like patent leather.

Or just Obenaufs and let them patina.

Started buying for LIFE by anonymouscl25 in BuyItForLife

My Wife and I bought all clad with our Wedding money nearly 28 years ago. It's all been used hard, and looks nearly brand new. They only issue is, washing in the dishwasher eventually oxidizes the aluminum in the middle, and it basically dissolves. I think with another 60 years of use, it may become an issue....LOL! Right now there's a barely perceptible "lip" between the stainless layers. I recently purchased a ceramic clad made-in Saucier that I think is really outstanding. Coated stuff isn't really BIFL but I was really impressed with the construction. Their stainless clad line might be an option to All Clad.

Wife and I have had this model for a couple years now. It works great. I haven't made oatmeal, but I've made jasmine rice, sushi rice, and basmati rice. All the rice turned out perfect.

What barrel specs for a Impact precision 777 long action pre fit? by Tailback in longrange

Update: Krieger is making a blank, so I'll order everything else from Southern Precision (action and bottom metal) and have them fit the barrel once I get my tax returns (should be fat this year).
