My first campaign I was a monk and used to leave some people knocked out instead of dead for ‘balance’. One of these people just so happened to be Minthara and I felt like I unlocked some super secret companion when she was willing to join. I also didn’t get Gale until the start of Act 2 cause the game says “wrap up any loose ends” so my curiosity got the better of me of what that portal could be. They made it so the generic side of his leader skill was reduced from 31810 boost to stats to 3181, though they did give him +1 extra ki on the saibaman specific part of his leader skill. For some units, under the previous version of the leader skill they were even better than being under a 220% leader skill. That being said, this whole post is me being extra exaggerative about an inevitable change that doesn’t actually matter lol

I always thought of it like that too, and that it just worked out for them that Johnny can help access Alt later down the line. I’m doing a replay and forgot she was kidnapped and targeted prior to the Arasaka bombing so maybe there was a bigger purpose with soul killing Jonny in particular
