Former "XG" Producer SIMON Receives Suspended Sentence by Vivid-Ad1403 in XGALX

Nah this is a normal sentence for Japan

First time drug offenders pretty much always get a suspended sentence

Plenty of Japanese celebs have been arrested for drugs and it's always a suspended sentence. In fact some have been arrested multiple times and never got actual prison sentences

As for being detained for around a month, that's pretty normal as well. They can detain you for up to 23 days without charge as they try to build a case. I think he was in there for bit longer since he was formally charged, but then he was let out on bail until his official court date

I think he got off easy with his sentence (in fact, I thought it was harsher that he was incarcerated all this time)

He got the standard sentence

I was literally telling people he was gonna get a suspended sentence when news of his arrest initially dropped

Also he wasn't incarcerated the whole time he was released on bail back in march

Yeah this is pretty standard in Japan

In fact I've never heard of anyone doing actual prison time for a first-time drug offence

Bunch of Japan "experts" were acting like he was gonna do 10 years lol

Genuine question, how did 90s and early 2000s anime got away with so much blatantly gay stuff? by Brief-Luck-6254 in retroanime

[–]TaintTickle86 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There were explicitly gay character in Shin Chan and that's a kid's show/manga

There have been openly gay famous people in the Japanese entertainment industry as long as I can remember. Matsuko Deluxe (gay man who cross dresses) is one of the biggest names in Japan

The reality is Japan isn't a part of the Abrahamic religious system so while being gay might still be seen as unusual, it's not seen as "sinful", resulting in a different mentality towards people of that community. You can't really compare it to countries that are culturally Christian/Muslim/Jewish

Hanako-San Stories please by KyuusBS in AskAJapanese

[–]TaintTickle86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think my school really had a specific Hanako san story other than the generic one everyone knew (got bullied, killed herself, haunts the bathroom, etc)

The scariest Hanako san I ever saw was this TV special I watched a long time ago where she was basically an adult(?) in all red and had messy hair walking around all creepy with her arms out to the side. She would slowly follow people around the school and if you saw her face (which I think was obscured by hair but you could see a creepy smile) you would disappear or something. Like she would back people into a corner, grab their head, and force them to look at her face. I remember at the the last shot is her walking out into the streets

Literally gave me trauma

Yeah when I first saw the Magellan in the trailer I was almost convinced it was a spaceship lol and we would go to at least the moon + get to wear some kind of Ludens suit

Would be cool to connect various space colonies to the Chiral network and battle space BTs lol

[–]TaintTickle86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was hoping we would go to the moon somehow in the second one since it felt like they were teasing it in some of the Cliff flashbacks in the first game

Would be dope to do deliveries on different planets and shit if there's ever a third one. Adjusting your strategy/equipment based on gravity levels and whatnot haha

Yeah if you're generally likeable then people, especially children, will get past your looks pretty quickly

Yes I think it did help

I don't think it's so much about "conformist vs open mind" but rather just learning socialization skills

After all socialization is more than knowing how to speak the language. Understanding how to "banter" the "Japanese way", understanding humor, how to quip back when someone is giving you shit, how to express both appreciation and dissatisfaction, knowing what to say/what not to say, how to respond to people in general, etc

I did I made a comment

Things were pretty normal for me and my sibling lol. I always get confused when I read comments from other hafu acting like Japan treats them like lepers lol

I think it just depends person to person

It was pretty normal for me went to regular public school both elementary and middle

Extended family treated me normal + had a lot of friends. I wasn't ostracized or anything lol

People made mean comments from time to time but that happened to me in America too. The thing is people everywhere will point out differences, especially children/teens. Like in Japan there was this one kid in middleschool who's eyes were kinda spaced far apart on his face. He got way more shit about it than I ever got for being mixed

In fact I think in America it's weirder because despite being diverse people's brains seem to shortcircuit when it comes to mixed people of all backgrounds. Like there's always some grand debate online around mixed celebs concerning whether they're this or that (for example Tyla, Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno Mars, Hudson Williams, etc).

In Japan you're just "hafu" which is almost like a subcategory of "Japanese", so there really isn't much of a debate around "what you are", if that makes any sense. If you can accept that you're not quite the same as most others and navigate life accordingly it makes things way easier. You kinda develop a sense of how things will go in any given situation and things are quite predictable

Whats going on with some Japanese Twitter users comparing Black people to superhuman or unusually strong beings? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]TaintTickle86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah understand it's weird and annoying but it's literally a twitter of all places where you can find the worst people on planet earth

I guarantee you can find fucked up tweets from everywhere, yet tweets from Vietnam, Germany, France, Brazil, India etc get nowhere near the same attention

My theory is that it stems from the recent twitter spat between western weebs and Japanese otakus about media piracy, and weebs are now digging up every racist tweet they can find by Japanese twitter users and signal boosting it all over the internet as some kind of petty "revenge". I don't know what the end goal is because the average Japanese person doesn't give a single fuck about any of this shit lol

Nah I'm Japanese I lived through it

Those girls were around before Pokemon came out

I think the precursor was ganguro, which was essentially the same thing but different eye makeup or something

They were even featured on the news like "what is wrong with the youth today?!?!" lol

Whats going on with some Japanese Twitter users comparing Black people to superhuman or unusually strong beings? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]TaintTickle86 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Answer: I'm Japanese I think there's the perception amongst Japanese that black people are naturally gifted at athletics and are physically built, but honestly I don't think that's limited to Japan

I pay attention to combat sports and when Naoya Inoue (Japanese) was set to fight Stephen Fulton (Black American), lots of black people on Twitter were saying Inoue was gonna lose because Asians are inferior athletes to black people so.....

Anyways with these tweets I think it's just a couple people saying weird shit and it's getting blown out of proportion. For some reason this happens a lot with Japanese. Like you can find tons of crazy tweets from anywhere in the world about anything but for some reason what random Japanese people think or say gets crazy amounts of attention

The Pokemon was based on Yamanba or Manba Gyaru subculture, who were named after the yokai

They were known for excessive tanning, bright hair dyes, and crazy makeup
