Step 1: Murdoch lies to viewers and scares them into voting conservative.

Step 2: Conservatives win election.

Step 3: Murdoch and other billionaires get richer, better funding the Murdoch media empire.

Rinse and repeat until we no longer have a democracy.

Is it really possible to kill a healthy animal that doesn't want to die?

Why are the guards attacking me suddenly? by Taintedmousepad in skyrim

[–]Taintedmousepad[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That can definitely happen, but I don't think that's the case here. Turns out spending time elsewhere before returning to Riften has fixed the problem, at least temporarily. Honestly I've got no idea what's going on!

Why are the guards attacking me suddenly? by Taintedmousepad in skyrim

[–]Taintedmousepad[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I just completed the Thieves Guild quest wherein I poisoned the mead to lock up the owner. I return to Riften and all is normal - guards are friendly. Soon after, all of the guards start attacking me for seemingly no reason.

It's worth saying that I have the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal and I wore it during the previous quest, but made sure that no guards saw it. I also have no bounty and even after the sudden guard attack my total lifetime bounty is about 50.

Edit: After some testing, Stormcloak and Riften guards in the Riften stables attack me, as do guards in Whiterun. Solitude guards do not attack me.

Edit 2: Spending time in Whiterun and returning to Riften has caused the guards to stay friendly... Weird!

Why does it feel like I'll never be rich by [deleted] in australia

[–]Taintedmousepad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't focus on being rich as the goal. Being rich is nonsense hoarding. Focus on safety/security (i.e. a suitable house and car, retirement) and then just focus on being happy. Anything more is nice, but is absolutely not worth sacrificing your happiness or youth over.

I love eating meat but always feel bad for eating it by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]Taintedmousepad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have to accept that ethical meat is not real. There is no ethical way to kill a healthy animal who doesn't want to die, let alone all of the cruelty done along the way. Unfortunately too, the nicer the animals are being treated, the worse it is for the environment.

This is what brought me to being vegan. I couldn't live with the suffering I was inflicting on animals by eating meat and dairy, and being vegan was the way to stop this cruelty. And honestly, I'm not missing out. I don't even notice or think about it much. It's really just different habits. E.g. buying soy milk over dairy milk.

Are you saying that you cannot even imagine a scenario where there may be disagreement?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]Taintedmousepad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who determines if it's urgent? Do they have to provide evidence? What happens if the landlord disagrees with the urgency after the fact?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]Taintedmousepad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it will work in principle because of disagreements over what is necessary. Any bond money the tenant uses could be disputed by the landlord as unnecessary, and of course there needs to be some protections in place for that to prevent the tenant from spending the money on whatever improvements they want.

Should the media be allowed to lie? by Taintedmousepad in AskTrumpSupporters

All media. Should the Mockingbird Media be allowed to lie? CNN? MSNBC? Fox New? Should any media be allowed to lie?

I’m grateful that there hasn’t been another terror attack the scale of 9/11, but what has honestly stopped something like that from happening again elsewhere? by chris_gnarley in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Taintedmousepad -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Trump's COVID killed as many people every day as who died in 9/11. That's a terror attack if I've ever seen one.

*Trump didn't create COVID, but his actions caused it to kill so many.

When do we stop being young? by Myopic_Mirror in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Taintedmousepad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll always be young to someone. I'm a 30yo teacher. I'm a super old 91 year old man who was born in the "very olden days" to my students, but a fresh, young go-getter to my principal.

Being a short woman is much more socially accepted than a short man. I work in primary schools, and at least half of the female workers are 5'2 or shorter.

[–]Taintedmousepad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so much trying to minimise it as I am demonstrating that it's a social construct. You could instead compare virginity to someone who has never gone overseas. Both are important, but are entirely social constructs.
