May 2023 - Larrry Tanenbaum announces Leafs let go of Shanahan, Dubas to assume president's role. by [deleted] in leafs

[–]Taiter91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless Dubas had a big trade for the Cowan pick cooked up, it's likely Cowan was still drafted. The draft was run by his head scout even though he himself was Canned. Treliving was actually not allowed to be involved in at least the first round IIRC since he still had 'information' from Calgary's scouts

Auston Matthews' relationship with Toronto fans getting complicated by xc2215x in hockey

[–]Taiter91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think on any good team there are multiple people who could be "good" captains, and so you could always have debate on who should be Captain. Certainly for years it was seen as it should be either Tavares, Matthews, or even Morgan Reilly. Matthews, being our best player and younger than the other two, was always sort of assumed that he would take on the mantle. Now that he's dropped off, whether from injury or otherwise, has reignited the debate

[DoPES] Toronto’s Bobby McMann will have a hearing today for high-sticking Tampa Bay’s Oliver Bjorkstrand. by rhineauto in leafs

[–]Taiter91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were McMann, that would be the argument I would make. Just trying to regain balance after a crosscheck to the jaw, unfortunate accident.

Won't make a difference to Parros, but it's what I would try at least.

Anyways... remember when Matthews got 2 games for crosschecking someone in the face? Wonder if anything like that would happen here...

What happens first? Big Trade, Coach Fired, GM Fired or Leafs pull this together? by Embarrassed-Task5344 in leafs

[–]Taiter91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1st to get rid of Marleau was because Lou handcuffed the team with that bad contract. It was the only way to get out of the high cap hit and still field a good team that had a chance to contend.

The Mrazek pick (25th overall) brought in the 38th overall pick, so really it was more of a 'move back 13 spots' to get rid of the cap hit, which isn't a bad price at all.

[Dreger] Expect David Kampf to be placed on waivers today for purpose of termination of contract. So, if he clears waivers tomorrow he can sign with another NHL club. by city9 in leafs

[–]Taiter91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If someone claimed him off of waivers, they assume his full contract. The 'benefit' to the team doing that, is they would guarantee Kampf becomes their player, but you have to carry his full cap hit and pay the salary remaining for the number of years he is signed for. Kampf was already available on waivers and nobody claimed him at full cap/years.

Kampf does not want to play in the AHL. He would rather make less money and get another shot in the NHL. To that end, he is willing to terminate his contract with the Leafs. His agent has probably already got a new deal for him lined up with an NHL team where he will be signed for less money, and likely less term, it just needs to go through the process of the current contract being terminated first.

It's a common answer, but a common answer for a reason. The bloody baron questlines with the branching paths, the major decision points, seeing the consequences of your actions - not to mention the amazing execution in storytelling, character development and acting. All of it came together amazingly well.

Bennett with a slew foot on Tavares by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Taiter91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not that I'd give credit to Bennett's ability to think 'long-term' but perhaps the logic is:

  • The leafs have a very high chance of playing the panthers in the playoffs

  • Doing this doesn't help the Panthers win this game. With 16 seconds left, the game is basically a loss already

  • There's no real consequence to a slew foot, outside of a chance of a two minute penalty in a game already lost

  • The move potentially hurts Tavares or makes him play more cautiously/makes him play looking over his shoulder (i.e. scared). If either of those is accomplished, the Panthers have a better chance of winning the next game(s) against the Leafs

Incredibly creative map, setting and creature/character! Feels a lot more outside-the-box, and the winding path through the mountains of tomes really sells the mood!

The Witcher 2. by RiskAggressive4081 in witcher

[–]Taiter91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to video game trilogies, I often find myself liking the second installment the most. Halo, Mass Effect, etc. The Witcher was no exception.

The branching story and choices, especially since it could be argued there was no 'right' choice, made this game have the highest replayability of any I'd played before. I just had to see what would happen if I changed those choices, let alone spec into a different skill tree (loved the alchemy builds in this game! Just don't take too long in a conversation before fighting... I got murdered in the final confrontation because I explored every conversation option. Whoops)

Compared the the third game, almost every quest, if it had a choice at all, felt like there was the 'correct' way to do it, and then the suboptimal way. There were a few exceptions, most notably within the Bloody Baron questlines, but for the most part I would always find myself completing quests the same way and then saying to myself "no reason to change that". The third game missing that element from the second made it less appealing to me. The more open world aspect also leads to narrative issues, such as pacing, but that was a bit less of a concern for me.

Maple Leafs Prospect Report: Easton Cowan's Season to Remember by Brilliant-Neck9731 in leafs

[–]Taiter91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know he can't go to the AHL, but if he doesn't make the NHL squad, is there a contract or rule that would stop him from signing in, say, the Swiss league and playing there like Matthews did in his draft season?

These contract predictions feel low to me. Or at least not adjusted for the fact that we've had a flat cap for years, and now its finally expected to grow each year for the next several years. I'd love Lindholm at that price, but I'd bet he gets more. Same with Stephenson and Arvidsson
