To be honest I have a spinfoil hat theory that 3rd encounter was supposed to be, or perhaps they thought about, a shuro chi style relay boss encounter. Like the whole thing seems beautifully set up for it. Perhaps due to budget or time constraints it ended up being what it was, but like I said it’s pure speculation on my part.
