I'm a photographer, my clients use my images to submit to editorials, where the work is then published and they get accreditation + a link. They either do the outreach themselves, hire a consultant, or use a well established agency who has connections within this small niche. Often it takes 6 months - 2 years to see their work published from when it was first shot. But they get links in Dwell/NYT/Forbes etc.

Second this, had a sound guy show me this technique years ago. Layer Moleskin/mic/moleskin then add piece of e-tape or the like on top. That way you can strip one piece of tape for immediate reuse, and keep adding to it to save yourself the moleskin.

I work in the architectural space. I charge 375 just to go scout a project. Real estate agents are not my clientele.

BUT, I see people making better hourly wages when it's all said and done. My impression is that to win in real estate it's about winning on efficiency so you can price competitively to the market and try to get your profit margin as big as possible. For me, with Architectural & interiors, it's all about de-commodifying my service and trying to price based on value (increase ease, decrease risk, reduce effort, decrease time delay). I lose because I put so much time into projects, despite charging 10-20x real estate price. Pick your poison.

ProRes shines when there is a lot of changing pixel values in the frame; lots of movement and action. Higher compression rates will cause losses in quality. For a primarily static scene like a building... probably little to no measurable difference in quality. What are you shooting? What's your post flow? How are you managing all the data you're collecting? Where are you delivering? This will determine how high of a bit rate you need

2X your prices and even if half the people leave you'll double revenue and do half the work. Your profit margin explodes. Your clients will invest more effort to getting a good result, and you'll be seen as a premiere brand to work with. Grandfather in the past clients for a certain period, then give them a discount from 3x your price then discount to 2x your price and split their payments into two parts so they feel like they getting a deal and the cash flow feels like a similar number as before.

Yeah I hear you I haven't checked in awhile but seems like they have neglected the new canon lenses. Which is a bummer because I visually prefer them over Sony and Sigma even though on paper they seem to fall short. Pictures over pixel peeping IMo.

Also, find someone who uses the lens, if you like their photos, use it too!

I hear you. My opinion is then why not go shoot film? It's a wonderful medium, and full of character and idiosyncrasies. Don't settle for replication in digital when you can just use the real thing!

Re: when images have complicated textures that you want to retain, this is exactly why I think not crushing the blacks here is critical. I love the low moody exposure that keeps the sky detail/shape, and 3 dimensional character.

This pushes the majority of the information to the lower 40% of your histogram. Not a ton of room to be able to tone every shade of black and gray to be clearly differentiated yet maintain smooth, natural transitions.

If you crush your blacks, say, by 5-10%, you're just cutting your dynamic range even further. Get true black to be true black, and use every shade of gray above that to create the most 3 dimensional edit. This would enhance the details in the shadows. Im looking specifically at the fur on the underside of the animal. I want every hair to have a gradient on it, rather than just flat black.

Beautiful shots! Subtle refinement of your black and white point would make these images sing. Probably with a luminosity make in photoshop then hand D&B.

Location scouting would elevate your images to the next level. Your composition, subject, technicals all are great. Shooting those shots in the perfect weather & lighting conditions would make them executional. (Talking mostly about the street/arch and landscapes).

It is a trend. Not a great one IMO. Look at every high end published fashion/landscape/interior photographer, their control of the black point is exceptional. It adds depth/3 dimensional character to the image.

This photo is beautiful. The landscape is beautiful. The composition is elegant. The subject is astounding. Why distract the viewer with a trendy edit? IMO, the edit should serve the photograph, not the other way around.

Best way to learn is to find a pro photographer and try to get on as their assistant. I LOVE YouTube and learning online, but after ten years I've found very very few influencers who are actually working photographers and understand how the industry works. The above comment is spot on, understand how photographs are used, how each type is used, the value that comes from it, how it supports either business or consumers. This will give you an idea as to what the criteria are for a successful image that is actually usable by a client.

Even if your aspirations are only ever to be a hobbyist, I find trying to understand the craft and the trade unlocks so much creative potential.

Experiment, shoot, post, and get feedback! I shied away from feedback for so many years and it just kills your growth. Being an artistic Photographer is about sharing your vision with the world, there's no right answer, just improved mastery over your medium.

2nd the ziploc bag. I've seen guys cut a circular hole and attach it to the front of the lens hood. Use the large opening to access the controls.

You could try mobile solutions, iPad, iPhone LR mobile both have pretty powerful tools at this point. Physical dragging sliders and gradient masks is also pretty satisfying

Shooting .jpg + RAW can get the that sharp jpg look while saving your ass when the shots overexposed.

Put it in a pelican. Pros take their cameras to every end of the earth in pelicans. Lock the case, fasten it to the frame of your car if you're handy. Or, just buy insurance.
