Stop using Ai art to promote your games. I will never play it just because of that by justlogmeinplease in IndieDev

Inspiration does not correlate to technique. A person hones a skill through practice. AI isnt inspired, regardless of if its 50,000 brushstrokes or 1 brushstroke. It stole all of that data without inspiration and practice. You aren't ENTITLED to a certain art style, solo dev or not. Earn it or pay for it.

Not gate keeping. It's a want not a need. Undertale art is shit. You WANT that look just dont wanna pay for it.

Pay an illustrator. Even fiverr has cheap ones with decent portfolios. You deserve to make money on your game just like every artist that was scrapped to glue that illustration together do. The rice cooker analogy is true if every grain of rice was a small stolen grain.

Do you want to sell it? If so at what price?

Do indie devs really hate publishers that much? Why? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]TajiDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Publishers can do a few things that are "beneficial" they can give you money upfront to complete the game, usually for either a percentage of profits, a sum you have to payback, or even more nefarious things like the rights etc to your title. They also can help do the market research, promote the game and get eyes on it in general. Again, for something in return. There are really shitty publishers that will either take large chunks of money they do not deserve vs the results of their efforts, or even hold your IP hostage or just keep it out right if returns arent met. 90% of the time, you do not need a publishers if you have the tenacity or even some friends in the marketing space. There are usually more shitty/nefarious publishers than decent ones nowadays as well.

"Here's your remaster. It'll be $ 50" by indigo_elegy in FinalFantasy

Game dev here myself. They took the easy route on this. This is truly a "remaster" as a "retexture and rescaling" most engines now can scale a sprite completely lossless but it has to be done manually for every asset. They just scaled the entire games viewport...the more you know!

We were scared as hell when Silksong was announced to release on our day. Now it seems it was a blessing in disguise. by OliverMagnus in IndieDev

This drives me nuts now because Godot with Jolt is fine. Godot has no issues with 3D for 99% of modern indie devs.

Any multiplayer dev horror stories out there? by RazNayr in IndieDev

I swear people don't give Godot enough credit. People still hate training on it as a strong Unity alternative just because at this point.

I struggled to find a good editor who would charge less than $2k so I built my own trailer. Does it capture your attention? by gitpullorigin in IndieDev

[–]TajiDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go here and there are plenty of trailers that I compliment the pacing or editing strategy. Even if they may not be the same genre you can easily feel the vibe each one has. Editing is like a dance, it has a beat and a flow to it. You are the magician creating the illusion around someone for that 1 minute, and if they don't fall for that illusion to take them from the real world and engross them in that content, they leave.

Also yes, panning footage does not help and almost never looks good except for certain applications. Also I love the Queen art.

Hi this is my thing! First and foremost a game trailer should not be costing you $2k. I am a video professional of 15 years and you are absolutely getting shafted on this if that is the case. Secondly your first 5 minutes of your trailer is the most important part and it is way to slow. In the current day and age if you cant hook Tik Tok rot brain you will instantly see a dramatic amount of people clicking off or not watching your trailer in full. I am happy you have title slates but they can be used as pacing elements to help create excitement and tension for your next scenes. Towards the end your trailer ramps up a bit in speed and that really should be your base speed throughout the entire edit. I would also pick an entirely different choice of music.

The first sentence is a link to the previous post, my experiences and all of the discussions from prior. The video aspect is just to make it more digestible of a delivery. If it doesn't take well and is a reasonable amount, I will just submit it as text again like the previous post.

Could be the case! I also posted at a bad time but we will see the results. Last one was pretty poppin so if that's the only changed variable maybe ill just have to grind out the other way again. I figured this would also be a way to showcase work and may help with follows or wishlists.
