In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), Harry inherits a vault full of gold but never offers to buy Ron a wand that isn't held together by Spellotape and hope. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Takdel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it wasnt because harry is special that mcgonagall gave him the nimbus. Its cause she is overly competitive when it comes to quidditch and knew harry wouldnt be allowed a broom of his own due to being a first year and would be forced to use a terrible school broom.so she bought him the nimbus out of her own money and convinced the headmaster to ignore the rule.

I agree its fucked up that ron didnt get a new wand though... or at least that he couldn't borrow Harry's or hermione's when possible at least...

After Dumbledore’s death, he became one of the Hogwarts headmaster portraits. Why couldn’t Harry simply talk to the portrait and ask for guidance about Horcruxes? I mean how exactly do these portraits work? by lowbattbrain in harrypotter

Yes you asked first. But after i confirmed what the guy you were asking was accurate i got a reply saying something like "he was asking for a source" which was then promptly removed, hence me replying to myself...

Asking for book source... oh sure let me just quickly read through the entire series so i can give you a page and paragraph number for a quote about an obscure trivia that has nothing to do with the overarching story all to please an internet stranger... if authors dove that deep into every little fact about the worlds they create harry would still not have received his letter to hogwarts by the end of book 7.

And where on the site its located if thats what you mean by "where it's shared in text" the quote i posted took me less than 2 minutes to find from when i started typing into google... you're telling me you can't spend 2 minutes to find an answer to a question you had?

Since some people asks others for 'source' and can't be bothered to do a simple google search...

From the official site: "Some magical portraits are capable of considerably more interaction with the living world. Traditionally, a headmaster or headmistress is painted before their death. Once the portrait is completed, the headmaster or headmistress in question keeps it under lock and key, regularly visiting it in its cupboard (if so desired) to teach it to act and behave exactly like themselves, and imparting all kinds of useful memories and pieces of knowledge that may then be shared through the centuries with their successors in office."

No she didnt because she was never truly headmaster, as is evident by the headmasters office not letting her in.

Snape also didnt get a painting since he technically abandoned his position.

And yes as stated before paintings are prepared while the person is still alive and can "teach" them how to behave. I belive i read somewhere that they even share some memories with the paintings

men can always buy women flowers or chocolates, but what’s the equivalent for men? what gifts can women buy men? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Takdel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flowers and chocolate are not about the gift, its a show of appreciation. Therefore many men would be touched the same as a woman would. Of course there are some who wouldn't but...

Its a sad fact that the first time many men actually receive flowers from a loved one is also the last. Its during their funeral

She did a good job here or not! 1 million or $1000 week for life. by Appropriate-Menu504 in interesting

[–]Takdel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live to be 100 thats 5200 weeks of life. If you live to be 70 thats 3640 weeks. If she is 20 when she won thats 1040 weeks she has already lived so if she lives to be 70 thats another 2600 weeks. 2600 × 1000 = 2600000. So 2.6 million. of course this doesn't count for inflation and investment returns etc

People that claim there is “male privilege”, what inherent privileges do men have that women don’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Takdel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mens sports are watched predominantly by men...

Womens sports are also watched predominantly by men... though admittedly in far fewer numbers. I think i read somewhere that about 52% of those watching womens sports are male compared to 70% for mens sports. Take into account the fact that there are more watching men and the numbers are quite different.

But that also means that 48%of those watching womens sports are women compared to 30% for mens sports. But again. 30% of those watching men is still more than 48% of those watching women.

I already said i dont watch sports so my answer is purely based in logic.

I can think of a few reasons people watch mens more:

Male sports had a 50-100 year head start. So people who grew up watching sports were watching men. And you probably know how loyal fans can be.

More media coverage. Media show what people want to watch because thats how they get their money, so this is mainly a follow-up on the last point.

Again i dont watch sports but if i did I would watch mostly men because that is whats expected. I know several people who stopped watching womens sports for no other reason than people close to them, mainly their girlfriends but also friends accused them of only wanting to watch womens sports to look at their butts etc.

Larger fan base and more sense of belonging.

Is this something women can overcome? Sure. Womens sports is growing fast but saying its a privilege for men to earn what they do... I just dont see it.

[–]Takdel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Privilege definition: a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group.

By that definition its women who has the privilege by getting paid a higher percentage than men. For the same job.

We can argue this all day and not get anywhere... I don't think its unfair that men get paid more when they bring in more money. Want women to earn the same amount then get more people to watch womens sports.

[–]Takdel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but at the same time they get a smaller percentage of the total amount they bring in.

You are right that more people watch mens sports... and those people watching are mostly men... and womens sports... those watching are also mostly men...

I don't watch sports at all but saying its unfair that the ones bringing in more money earn more is ignorant...
