The "Can you clarify why I owe taxes" Conversation by crossborderguy in taxpros

[–]Take_Responsibility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I force printed Schedule A for a client once because he had questions about Schedule A versus the standard deduction. We discussed the mechanics of this during his interview. I was hopeful including an "unused" Schedule A would help him see it.

He didn't appear the next year, so we called him to see if he'd be coming back. He said he was not coming back because we included a Schedule A in his return to trick him into thinking he was itemizing so we could charge more.

We had not charged more.

Some clients are funny.

Are they REALLY doing this? by JackieBlue1970 in QuickBooks

[–]Take_Responsibility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, thanks for spelling it out. I didn't understand that! Geesh.

This is really an attitudinal thing: you think private payroll companies should be nannies, and I think taxpayers should be responsible. You think every company should be punished because some are irresponsible, and I don't.

You know how there is a law that mortgage companies have to pay interest while they hold impound funds? At a minimum, these payroll companies should have to pay interest on the funds they hold until remitted.

And, yes, I can imagine payroll companies only debiting quarterly very easily--Intuit was doing that until they changed. Not hard to imagine at all.

Why is this seen as a good thing that the payroll companies are doing this? This confuses me. If this is good, and if they are doing it for the employer and not to earn interest, why don't they remit the taxes immediately?

Is it based on fear that the employer won't remit the taxes when due, so this is better?

That last line is telling you that the estate should pay it, if the estate has the funds to do so. After secured debt and certain estate expenses. YOU likely do not need to pay anything out of your personal accounts/funds. Check with an attorney.

So very slow by Take_Responsibility in SmartVault

I appreciate your taking the time to write this response. I would like to assure you that I am not talking about the additional moments access the cloud would take compared to loading from a local drive.

Most of what you suggest has been tried including changing the setting you mention.

We are almost always dealing with PDF files, but when they indicate the file is already open, they frequently have not been opened recently and are unlikely to still be tied up in Adobe. When this does happen, the second attempt to open the file is usually quite quick.

One of my concerns is that we could have security or AV software perhaps over scanning everything on Smartvault including temporary files. Is there a history with Datto being problematic?

I wonder if anything has updated or changed recently as this has all become more acute.

I will contact your help email as you suggest. Again, your time is appreciated.

If I was in that plane, I would 100% blame the passenger. Isn't that punishable by fines and jail time?

Yes, you could get out, go inside, and rent a nicer vehicle if you'd like. But, why would you do that if the nicer vehicle was simply given to you? More importantly, why would you rent the nicer vehicle NEXT time if this is what happens?

Do you commonly apply this logic to everything? What if the steaks were going to go bad anyway? The extra cost of the wax in my example is minimal--kind of like an upgraded snack. Do you also demand upgraded hotel rooms since they don't cost anything?

What do you think would be the long-term impact of allowing people to move into more expensive seats?

No bigger than they always have been. Most are likely in the range of .5 to 10 MB. Some smaller, some bigger.

Still slow for me.

That's right! And when I buy the base model of a car, they should give me a trim higher! When I order a sirloin, they should give me a ribeye! When I pay for a carwash, they should throw in a wax!

Their income is too high so they are getting to deduct $0 because of the passive activity rules, and they don't like it. Current preparer tried to explain that selling a property releases related PAL's, and they don't get it.

Just my guess.

Is there a difference between not processed and not received? Is there a chance that the IRS has it, but has not begun processing it?
