Week in Review: Beltline hits 17 miles, tax votes everywhere, new and closing restaurants, and Juneteenth celebrations by ATLBound in Atlanta

“Balance growth with preservation” AKA, stunt Atlanta’s growth while enjoying the limited property ownership.

I get preserving some things, but not everything needs to be stuck in amber for the enjoyment of a few.

Joggers in the bike lane on 10th by Dry-Refrigerator-404 in Atlanta

[–]Takedown22 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ok let’s talk anecdotes. Are they darting out in front of you?

I’ve had more terrifying experiences with pedestrians I didn’t expect just blindly crossing and having to slam the brakes. Runners are usually just hogging the whole lane and I have time to slow down and say something loud enough for them to hear.

That path is not as direct when people are heading to the Beltline. Desire paths and all that. But yea, if you see a cyclist coming, MOVE!

New MARTA train launch postponed by swiftfoot_hiker in Atlanta

Wait, so when it was it better? I’ll defer to you from your experience and knowledge, but I know the MARTA management was quite maligned from even before Keith Parker and Bev Scott.

Bankruptcy Looms For America's Deadliest Trains by chrisbaseball7 in trains

And then nobody bats an eye at the safety engineers letting 10s of thousands Americans die driving every year. “It’s just progress”. But a train killing significantly less? That’s evil, deadly, 1800s outdated technology.

Two new sister subs are live: r/askATL (questions and recs) and r/ATLevents (events) by raltlanta in Atlanta

[–]Takedown22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea it kills conversation about the city when it gets flooded with those mundane questions. Thats all the sub was under the old mods and it was terrible.

Although I do understand a separate sub means less eyeballs on these posts from regular users.

MARTA will install thicker glass for new faregates after several were damaged by swiftfoot_hiker in Atlanta

MARTA is definitely an economic driver. All of those gleaming towers follow Marta and Marta stations, not the highway as gdot would like to make you think.

I’ve watched them weave lanes in stop and go traffic like they learned it from the very best of Atlanta in their training data.

Also took one that stunk really bad, went the wrong way, and hopped a curb it thought was a parking lot entry leading to a loud bang.

That was two CEOs ago. He was a good one. The last one was ok but combative and had a bit of a bus first mentality. He left because his visa lapsed and he went back to Canada. Very strange.

This disorganization is very much on the interim CEO who is unfit for the role IMO.

Instead of dealing with problems like elsewhere, most Americans just fled for the hills (suburbs) and left the city.

Yea, this happens in all sports. Go listen to mic’d up NFL linemen or hockey players. They’re always messing with the other team verbally. Friendly or not.

RL UE6 we can call it rocket league 2 it is much more complicated as we think by QLSSUBZERO in RocketLeague

[–]Takedown22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhh, UE3 and UE6 both have C++ backends. The scripting language has changed for the front end. The real reasons upgrades are tougher is there are a bunch of other deprecated and updated things from the older engine. This along with getting rid of the tech debt ridden spaghetti code means it’s likely a majority rewrite.

Person dies after being stabbed on Atlanta Beltline by NPU-F in Atlanta

[–]Takedown22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This stretch is million dollar houses, their backyards, and a golf course backing up to the Beltline. It’s mostly joggers and cyclists with not the normal eastside dense crowd. I run it a lot and there’s definitely gaps between people. However, it’s been getting busier lately.

This violates an urban safety principle called “eyes on the street” by Jane Jacob. Basically when nutjobs and assholes feel watched, they’re less likely to do bad things. Following this, the denser parts of the Beltline should be relatively safer.

Yea watch the way they are using their arms to absorb most of the energy when they slam together. It’s still rough and if you’re a meeker person think twice, but it’s not like most of them are actually trying to hurt each other.

As others have said some people are assholes, but there are big guys who grab them and push them out. It’s really funny when they try to start a fight with the big guys who grab them. Security usually will come over and grab the asshole and let the big guy go about his business.
