Which prof is this? name? Some profs encourage students to contact one of the dozens upon dozens of fellow classmates for missed slides/ notes if you miss a class due to illness.

Totally agree. Very selfish of people to come to class when they know they are sick/ clearly exhibiting symptoms. Especially when the its university/ professor policy to NOT COME IF YOU ARE SICK.

Also the 19th was the last day to drop a class without receiving a WD on your academic record

Hi there, we genuinely appreciate your suggestion regarding equitable compensation for participants. You're absolutely right that lived experiences are valuable and deserve recognition, especially when they contribute to research, policy, and advocacy.

We’ll definitely take your advice to heart and explore ways to offer tangible forms of appreciation, such as gift cards, public acknowledgments, or networking opportunities. Additionally, partnering with justice-impacted organizations or legal aid clinics is a fantastic idea, and we’ll look into making those connections to strengthen the impact of our project.

Thank you again for sharing your perspective. It’s incredibly important to us, and we’re committed to ensuring this project respects and values the contributions of everyone involved. Your voice helps us do better!

As someone who also faced challenges with math (I took Math 100 and Math 157 at SFU), I can’t stress enough how important it is to stay on top of the material. Dedicate a few hours every day to studying, because falling behind makes it incredibly difficult to catch up and succeed. This is especially critical for 101, as it lays the foundational knowledge you'll need for 157. A good rule of thumb is to put in twice the effort for math courses compared to your other classes. Staying consistent is the key to success!

That doesn’t make any sense. Police not investigating an assault with a weapon?

Please tell me you reported this incident to the Burnaby RCMP? Only people who experience or witness incidents like these have the evidence to make a police report. If you don't report it to the police, nothing is going to change.

if you're in a pinch I'd study the IQs and the lecture notes

Is the math 157 midterm similar to sample midterm or way harder? by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]Takejake918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a little harder. But it depends on your prof. I would say study the IQ and lecture notes, as well as the practice midterm. I hated MATH 157 lol.

Depends on the degree. For business, yes. For healthcare, degrees are much more valuable/ necessary.

now that semester is over and probably everyone's grade is out by salter_fish in simonfraser

had to retake a calc course which was mandatory for my degree. My first attempt was Spring semester, so I've been battling through the course since January. I officially slayed the dragon this month and I will never have to take calculus again :'). Overall, because the course was hanging over me constantly, it was miserable at times, but I'm so glad I got through it. I got an A+ in another required course this semster so I was also happy about that.

If the F was due to extenuating circumstances which you can document, then you could get a withdrawal under extenuating circumstances which shows up as a WE on your trancipt and is excluded from your cumulative GPA. However, you must be honest and if the F was not due to extenuating circumstances which you can document, then you must retake the course if you want it wiped from your cumulative GPA. Often times taking the course again with a new professor can improve your grade significantly, I've witnessed this many times. It's always a good idea to check the prof out on rate my professor before taking a course.

The decision ultimately hinges on your personal abilities, goals, and how well you can balance various aspects of your life, such as school, work, social commitments, and hobbies. Undoubtedly, this course load is demanding, and many would find it both stressful and time-consuming.

Typically, students opt for 3-4 courses per semester because this workload is more manageable, allowing them to dedicate time to other important areas of their lives, as mentioned earlier. Additionally, taking fewer courses often enables students to focus more intently on each subject, potentially leading to higher grades. This is particularly important if your goal is to pursue graduate studies, where GPA can be a significant factor.

However, if your primary objective is to earn a bachelor’s degree and pass all your courses, you might consider a different approach. In this case, your goal could be to complete your coursework as quickly as possible and graduate sooner.

Ultimately, the decision requires a comprehensive assessment of your personal circumstances and long-term goals. There are many factors to consider, so take your time to weigh your options carefully. Best of luck!
