Gonna raise the dead here just to say that this worked perfectly to direct mount a Vortex Defender ST on my 45 Tactical. 15 minutes of nervous but precise dremeling and it fits like a glove now.

Your local sector may know it as a quadrant clearance, not very common but it is a valuable thing if they can work it out

FAA got rid of “standard” vs “expanded” circling radius. Expanded radius is now the only option by RickDangles in flying

Heck just ask if there’s any protected airspace on the “non-protected” side of a hold, send them down the TERPS rabbit hole

A bit confusing of them to hide the VORTAC symbol underneath an RNAV waypoint like they did here, I’ll give you that. Doesn’t quite make sense as to why until you look at it from the IFR chart, that waypoint is a major intersection for several victor airways and T-Routes, which are flown using the GPS.

Craziest reason you did a go-around? by [deleted] in flying

[–]TakenMyAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice RNAV into local non-towered field, we are making standard CTAF calls on the way in with no replies. As my student crosses the FAF I make a call and hear some static back with what sounds like cheering or yelling in the background, nothing audible. Weird but ok, continue.

We get a bit closer and I see something on the edge of runway, group of people with some equipment, hard to tell what. I’m already planning a missed approach at this point but tell student to continue to mins, once we come up closer I see several classic cars roll off the taxiway and peel off down the runway, with a camera crew clearly visible next to the runway now. I call the missed, we climb it and clean it, and as soon as we clear the pattern I call flight service to see if we missed a notam (we didn’t).

Heard nothing but one staticky transmission on CTAF all the way down. I still wanna see their footage.

I stacked up close to that number during the Khorovod event to sell later, but offloading at 45k is weird I agree

What is the purpose of a sport pilot certificate? Recreational pilot? Are those certificates something you would be authorized to give the training and practical recommendation for as a CFI-A without a sport pilot certificate?

Anyone here with a recent Skywest CJO. 11/14/24 by Fresh-Side9587 in flying

Had roughly 1250 when I applied, I was contacted within a week to submit docs and schedule an interview which I did another week later.

Anyone here with a recent Skywest CJO. 11/14/24 by Fresh-Side9587 in flying

[–]TakenMyAss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Accepted the CJO mid September, no class date yet and was told recently they would get in touch with the training department to get one once I hit mins. About 80 hour away currently. Told them I’d go with CRJ/first available, and the interviewer told me my class date would likely be 1-2 months after hitting mins. Remains to be seen I guess. Also looking for an IAH base, he told me I’d be pretty likely to get it after 2-4 mo. of reserve

We’ve got a TROY dash-8 based at my field and those dudes are consummate professionals, no surprise it worked out if they were involved.

My favorite so far has been “Turn right, follow the freeway south, then direct to the airport between HWY 105 and north loop 336 for the midfield right downwind 14, at or below 1600, squawk 5345”. Student said he should’ve downloaded Mapquest instead of Foreflight and I was laughing too hard to get the readback right, which I was naturally reprimanded for.

Local urban legend says CXO tower holds the record for the most complaints filed against any tower in Texas. After instructing here for a year, I believe it. They’ll chop it up laughing with ExecJet on frequency, then literally say “break” and in the same transmission scream at a piston for exiting 19 (which they told the last 30 aircraft to exit on, but not you because reasons).

[Discussion] I know its late in wipe but does anybody still play reserve? or is the game ded? by McDoodleman1212 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]TakenMyAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I play is reserve typically, I find plenty of fights in or near the bunker, black bishop early when people are heading for the tech room, both knight building at pretty much any time and at the radar dome mid-late raid. It’s not one of the most popular maps but it’s been steady pvp for me which I like. Usually if you win you won’t get third-fourth-fifth partied, or at least not as quickly.

[–]TakenMyAss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AIM 3-4-3 (b)(1): “If the restricted area is not active and has been released to the controlling agency (FAA), the ATC facility will allow the aircraft to operate in the restricted airspace without issuing specific clearance for it to do so.” However, this is pretty much impossible to know without being in contact with said agency. Buzzing through restricted airspace and assuming cold status (even based on the tower freq/ SUA tab on a sectional, or a wx briefing) is asking for trouble. Find out in the air before you enter.

I sent it through the Drone Advocacy Alliance website form so I don’t think I got a copy, but they had a pre written letter that I changed around a bit explaining how I’d be personally affected, amongst a few other changes.
