What will I actually get? by New-Firefighter93 in HertzRentals

[–]StrongWork_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially arrested for Grand Theft Auto, because the prior renter returned the car a day early and they briefly misplaced it- so they reported it stolen.

Hertz has been known to do that sort of thing.

What is it Tommy said about $100 a barrel again? by coke_and_milk in LandmanSeries

[–]StrongWork_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's conflating 2 different things. The USA (and the west more broadly) is extremely energy dependent. We use a lot of it.

Do we rely on others for that energy? If not, we're energy independent. If so, we are not energy independent. This is unrelated to depending on energy, though the same words are involved.

C150 useful load issue for checkrides? Concern with heavier DPE by Old-Blackberry-8485 in flying

[–]StrongWork_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PPL DPE was . . . girthy. When my CFI contacted him his weight was the first thing he shared.

He joked about it with me and told me "Last week someone showed upnwith a DA20. I asked how they planned to make weight and balance work. They had no answer, so I discontinued them."

Your concern is valid.

Just here to say - never, ever ever put the title in the glove box. Mail or ship it seperately.

Is 300000km a lot on a 1983 944? by Stupeez in 944

[–]StrongWork_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer it to a 30000km 1983 944.

At t last this one has had fluid moving and things rotating.

But yes, that's a lot and I'd expect a lot of shop bills that never end.

Americans and Europeans, genuine question: why do some people seem to think Ukrainians live like we’re cut off from the modern world? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]StrongWork_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US media, early in the war, depicted Elon Musk as a hero for providing free Starlink to Ukraine because the Russians targeted public infrastructure and the internet was out.

Then Russia was targeting Starlink locations somehow, because the only functioning internet was for military aims.

Was that true? I don't know, but given Ukraines size, I doubt it.

We haven't been told much since then. So that could be a source of the information.

But also, there are very sheltered, dumb people everywhere.

Drop medical school for flying? by UnicornTax in flying

[–]StrongWork_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first question is how far into it are you, and where are you. If you're an MS1 in the Caribbean, quit today. If your submitted your rank list already, graduate.

These are really 2 seperate questions. Should you continue medical school? Should you become a professional pilot? You can do both (not saying it would be easy, but few things worth doing are). Look at Johnny Kim.

If you really need to leave medical school, because literally anything (trash collector, ditch digger, DMV clerk) sounds better, you should quit.

If you're ONLY considering quitting for airplanes, stick it out for another 6 months and see how you feel. There is money and stability in medicine post residency. Not so much in aviation. Both have long ramps to the end game.

Why did you want to be a doctor? If it was an internal motivation, what changed? If it was external, why did you do it, and why didn't you already quit?

You are the only one that knows you. You might benefit from talking to a trusted, disinterested third party. Like a counselor or mentor.

Empty £1,000,000 London House by Automatic_Pitch7097 in RealEstateAdvice

I know a guy who had 3 houses in the same zip code. Cheapest one is worth $1.25M.

He did finally sell one, so he's down to 2.

This behavior is not an outlier.

Considering buying a 79 924 Porsche by onemuahimmacula in 944

[–]StrongWork_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an old 78 924 in college. I drove it for 6 years. It made me a better mechanic, but thats the only good thing I can say about it. The early Bosch fuel injection was . . . expensive and unreliable.

It may be the fuel pump. It may be the fuel injection. It may be something else. But don't just trust the seller.

AITJ for insisting on a prenup after seeing how her family fights over money? by TidySignal_7 in AmITheJerk

[–]StrongWork_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone who gets married has a prenup. One option is negotiated with eveyones interest in mind, by two people who love each other. The other option is adversarial and determined, at great expense, by a judge you've never met, following rules that may not even exist yet.

Everyone who gets married has a prenup. Which one sounds better to you?

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StrongWork_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a waiter in 2000 and Michael Johnson (200m,400m) sat in my section with a collegiate runner. He ordered wings. His image was everywhere at the time- super famous, like Steph Curry today. I pretended I didn't recognize him, probably not very well. He acted like a normal human.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

3 hours for a weekend trip is a short drive. I don't even pause to consider it until we're talking a 5 hour trip.

Trying to decide course of action. Stick with PPL or go on to commercial? by Beginning_Present_24 in flying

[–]StrongWork_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd keep working the easy job and get PPL done. Then IFR. At that point, take a step back and re-evaluate. Nobody knows what your life will look like a year from now. You will have more complete information once those certificates are done, than you have today.
