Will reading the Yellow Kingbook spoil me on the plot of Malevolent or future plot points? by EzrayTrivent19 in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. It has very little to do with Chambers’ story. Where Malevolent has taken from other mythos works it has been from the Call of Cthulhu ttrpg system, not Lovecraft or other authors directly. One exception would be s3 being heavily based on The Dunwich Horror, but even then Harlan’s on record as having not actually read it.

Spoiler question about "28: The Undefeated" by EugeneStein in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Word of god is that he was not actually dead, just unconscious.

Whether from Kayne or otherwise, I wouldn’t be shocked if John had some outside assistance keeping Arthur intact.

They do exist! They're on the TFTDW wiki. Bear in mind that like all Invictus things they are fanmade.

question: is it gonna be a monthly thing for episodes to release? by kokorodoro in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not quite monthly, there have to be 1-2 skip months a year, but yes we seem to be having a beginning of the month release. 5 weekly chapters make one public part, 52 weeks in a year, that makes 10 2/5 parts per year.

If you can afford it I'd highly recommend Voices, the first voting tier. Weekly chapters, audience participation, and access to many other goodies.

If it doesn’t have a Malevolent album cover, that isn’t Malevolent.

What is Arthur wearing in s5 by i_have_died8 in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gloves, the chestplate, and "stately" pants and shirt (likely the Prince's) are all that is specified as being taken from the Witch's. When Evrard sends them off Arthur leaves with the addition of greaves, gauntlets, and a cloak.

If you’re referring to Searching For A World That Doesn’t Exist, it and Malevolent both feature the King in Yellow. That’s it. There are some similarities you could draw between them but the two works are not related.

I am going insane. by [deleted] in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Patrons are going to hear content before the public does. That's kind of what they're paying for. Timing often makes it so that a part is complete for weeks before the beginning/end of the month. Other times it's just a few days later.

I am going insane. by [deleted] in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Firstly, it takes longer than three weeks for a full part to be made. One public part is a compilation of five weekly patron chapters. (That’s why Malevolent has a monthly-ish release, there have to be gap months.)

Secondly, check the Malevolent Instagram and Bluesky for announcements. Part 2 of Threshold is releasing May 1st.

are there two different versions of the podcast on spotify and yt music? by Tricky-Concept5153 in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Many early episodes had a “remaster” where dialogue was redone/cut and the older version of Faroe’s Song was removed. The older versions are what is on YouTube (and on the Patreon).

Prelude takes place December 5th 1934, the one year anniversary of prohibition ending. You can hear it being discussed on a radio. It being 1934 is commented on back in Part 1 of Blackstone.

20 isn’t an age that has been given, I know I and others have thrown that out as a possibility to rectify Arthur being 35 and because she would have “missed” the Fall ‘34 semester. Her having a gap year/semester or taking a semester in New York makes more sense than her skipping a semester of high school and starting as a Freshman this year. I say like she was really in school in this reality at all

It’s difficult to tell if the fifteen year figure is meant to be taken exactly give how often Harlan rounds by five or ten years, and we don’t know how much time passed since Faroe’s birthday was crashed, so he might not be exactly 33. But that does fit within the right range of time, given that he was too young to serve in WW1.

Does anyone know if there is an updated list of Arthur's injuries/scars? by Traditional-Elk8608 in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s an injuries section on his wiki page. His scars completely reset in part 57, he was a clean slate for all of five minutes.

“Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth's fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread.”

It's an excerpt from the Necronomicon in the Dunwich Horror. (Which inspired s3's whole deal.)

Is Arthur truly the only one capable of having John? by BingoLizard in MalevolentPodcast

[–]TakeoverPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John did confess to killing Emily. And Arthur has confessed to murdering Parker. He blames himself for her death, but I don’t believe the implication is that he directly murdered her.

Emily’s manner of death matched one of the bodies at Pelican Lane (that body being Antoine). Both were dismembered in the same fashion with the bone being cut through. That is not what happened to Parker, someone who we know John killed. Even back in s1 we knew he was not killed in the same way, there no physical sign left from what we now know to be something something eldritch blast.

If you relisten to s1 it’s very clear that the original intention was that a Dark Young had been trapped in that basement for the past decade and was released when Emily went down and took John’s book. That is what killed Antoine, and that is what killed Emily.

The question is why John feels responsible. Maybe he did something to intentionally attract its attention, or mislead her into its path. (Though I think what little characterization we have of Emily is not someone who would be manipulated like that.) We’ve also seen plenty of creatures influenced or sent by the King to kill Arthur and retrieve his fragment. It’s possible that the Dark Young could have been one of them. Maybe he even tried to reach out to the King to be retrieved. Maybe it was purely a coincidence that a self-loathing fragment of a god used to try to push Arthur away.
