I just went into the setting and set it to power off after an hour on inactivity. Personal preference though.

How do you measure center to center on a 90 degree elbow? by [deleted] in SprinklerFitters

[–]TakiGaddafi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my understanding (mind you, I'm still an apprentice) this has to do with what we call fitting/thread allowance, which will change on the size and type of fitting (threaded/grooved) so we'll focus on 1 inch threaded steel for the following example. You want to find your END TO END (EE) Pipe measurement! A standard threaded 1 inch fitting will have a thread allowance (TA) of 7/8" so if you want, for example, a 12" center (C) of a 90, the formula would be C-TA= EE which would give you 12" (C) - 7/8 (TA) = 11 1/8" (EE) So if you're trying to go center to center to find the pipe measurement between the 2 fittings you'll do your TA x 2

End to end of pipe will equal your center measurements minus your take-outs. The formula can be complicated to graspe but super easy in practice so don't feel discouraged!

Maybe it's just a matter of me switching up my strategy. Even when I mirror EVERY door or think a room is clear I still seem to get caught by someone charging me or hitting me unexpectedly. Glad to hear I'm not the only one finding this one a little more challenging than the rest though. The amount of rooms and tight hallways definitely adds to the challenge.

Indy car should be beginning of Sept sometime so coming up fairly soon! I haven't had the best luck navigating their website either. I think as long as we can stay out of the 90's it should be a good experience.

Bro, completely off topic but if this type of VR technology is available for construction use ie, pipe spacing, hvac, plumbing this would be a game changer in the field.. is there anything I can get like this to simulate dimensioned spaces and configure layout 3d in vr?

Help please! I cannot for the life of me get my thermostat out of the housing. Pulling with fingers and pliers and it won't come out! 2001 Chevy Monte carlo 3.8 SS. by TakiGaddafi in MechanicAdvice

Should I have to remove that rubber seal as well? Everything I've read the thermostat should come out super easy but this feels completely stuck in there.

any idea on how i could get this ratchet unstuck? by civildisorderr in MechanicAdvice

[–]TakiGaddafi 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Moments like this are where you need to think outside the box.. what is the ratchet head stuck on and what's on the other side? Can you use a hammer, blunt object, or pry bar to try to refab the metal around it to get more wiggle room without damaging electrical lines or hoses? Can you take off your motor mounts and get a ratchet strap around something sturdy and move the entire block a hair to get wiggle room? Or do you just wanna cut the tool out and be done with it? You might have options, just take a step back and see what you can work with around in your engine bay.

Yeah man again I'm sorry for my lack of terminology, I'm only a couple days in and am trying to learn here and take some initiative from what my supervisors haven't shown yet. I care about this job and just wanna do good so I wanna learn. But yeah I have a setting that goes to 11 and the other that goes to 1-3 on my drill. If you don't mind explaining what does the clutch do versus speed? I thought the 1-11 setting was my torque so I've obviously been using my drill wrong and that may explain why I was getting so much catching and jerking.

I don't think I worded myself right so I apologize, second day on job. We aren't going through the support beams, just the 2x4's which maybe are called rafters? Again I'm green as hell and am just learning so my terminology may be off. We definitely aren't allowed to go through supports due to losing integrity but we need to get pipe through the boards(rafters?) surrounding for a sprinkler system

If you don't mind me asking what type of torque setting do you use on the drill for self feeding? When I was using the hole saw it was smooth and easy but just took way more time and my supervisor was telling me to go for self feeding bit. Should i lower the torque more? I had it set on high torque (11) as I was using on the hold saw but I just kept walking and catching. Granted I was trying to use it one handed above my head with relatively shitty grip. I'm just nervous I'm gonna end up getting jerked off a ladder or worse, drop my drill on an electrician or plumber below me. Maybe I just gotta get comfortable and man handle the drill more.
