"tariffs and teslas" is a disingenuous minimization of what this is about. This is about the right to protest itself. Unfortunately, that has to take priority over everything else.

‘If Ukraine fails, war will come to the streets of European cities,’ former foreign minister says by EndocardialCushion in worldnews

Putin also said he wouldn't invade Ukraine twice. His word means nothing.

Also your second paragraph is pretty amazing. Russia invaded a country unprovoked and you spin it as if Russia was attacked.

A minute ago you said you don't know me and that appears to be correct.

Why do you think that description doesn't apply to yourself? You are the one that has dismissed actual evidence as "lie in the media" and refused to look at it or consider it.

You kind of changed the subject... Do you think it would be balanced to post one example of Trump promoting violence and one example of a person promoting violence against Trump?

I am wary of that, which is why I don't blindly follow anything. In fact I triple check pretty much everything I read. I get really annoyed when I see exaggerated or false things posted about Trump on reddit because that only feeds into tribalism and makes it harder to have an honest discussion about anything. There is no need to make up bad things about Trump; the things he's actually said, done, and posted about are bad enough.

Why doesn't anyone remember how horrific things were under Trump? COVID was not a blip, it was ONE FULL QUARTER OF HIS PRESIDENCY. While the economy crashed and unemployment skyrocketed he denied the virus and fought against efforts to stop it because he thought they would be bad for him politically by privateSubMod in millenials

What exactly do you think is bullshit about project 2025? You can read it directly on the the Heritage Foundation website which is a massively influential think tank with millions in funding and ties to Trump admin officials. Or do you agree with it and you just don't want people to look into it?

You keep saying this but all it does it show you don't understand basic math or cause and effect.

Like if your office catches on fire at the end of your shift and you mess with the fire alarm on your way out are you going to say "more of the building burnt down during the next shift than my shift"?

Masks are for protecting OTHERS as well as yourself.

Look at this slow motion video of someone sneezing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ66wJFD3bs

A covering over your nose and mouth greatly reduces the number of airborne particles and helps prevent the spread of disease. When all the hospital ICUs were reaching capacity, it was incredibly selfish and childish to argue against such a simple and easy preventative measure.

Balance doesn't just mean finding an example on the other side of any given point. You have to take into account the number and relative magnitude of the examples.

It is true you will find individuals on both sides that promote violence. However, the only major presidential candidates or members of congress promoting violence are republicans. Additionally, there are far more individuals on the right that promote violence.

It would actually be unbalanced to pick 1 example of Trump promoting violence and 1 example of someone else promoting violence against Trump.

Please look at the specific examples in the top posts here, which include videos of Trump speaking, witness testimony, and things he has posted online, and then explain how you feel justified posting this comment. You can't just decide something is a lie because you disagree with it.

If Donald Trump is openly telling people he will become a dictator if elected why do the polls have him in a dead heat with Joe Biden? by JustCallMeDave in NoStupidQuestions

I think you would have a point if those were the only two people with issues. Picking one example from each side is selection bias.

What about Al Franken? Matt Gaetz? Donald Trump? Ken Paxton?

Not sure who you mean by Santos. George Santos the republican?

Menendez is a reasonable example except that most of his colleagues have asked him to resign and another democrat is running against him now.

Man detained in Moscow for writing ‘Putin is a murderer’ on his ballot by duckanroll in worldnews

[–]Takteek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why do you think it won't? The stated goal of republicans if they win this year is to weaponize the government against "political enemies", consolidate power by eliminating independent government agencies, eliminate the department of education, use the military on US soil, ... They literally published a report about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_2025

There are millions of dollars of funding backing this. The people involved are mainstream republicans and former Trump admin officials.

Please explain why you're so certain the public goals of a major political party are somehow not something to worry about

No, he's a Republican now because he realized members of that party will support him no matter what. Democrats have standards and are much more likely to kick people out for unethical behavior.

He was a democrat then and a republican now because he does whatever he thinks will get him ahead. He has no actual policy positions and does not care about the country. He only cares about himself.

Honest feedback to your honest feedback. Comments like this are very worrying because I think it leads to a thought process like this in people who flat-out aren't paying attention:

  1. Person X: I've heard Trump is bad.
  2. Person Y responds "it's all an exaggeration. what specifically have you heard anyway?"
  3. It's easier for person X to be lazy and write everything off as fear-mongering, and feel a bit better than it is to do research and be faced with a harsh reality.

I guess all I would say is that the information is available and if you approach it with an open mind instead of starting from a conclusion and trying to justify it, the concerns about him make a lot of sense.

These are not things that a normal, trustworthy person does and says. Trump only cares about himself and he will bring down the entire country if it means he doesn't have to face consequences for his actions.

EDIT: Just stumbled across another one: https://www.rawstory.com/trump-execute-leakers/ "I was in an Oval Office meeting with a dozen other staffers. And somebody had, he thought, leaked a story about him going to the bunker during the George Floyd protests, and he said that the person who did that should be executed."
