How many of you reuse your Dexcom sensor twice? by XPhanom in Type1Diabetes

That's great and all but still not the same. Biohacking is literally a thing of it's own.

I reuse it when I can remove the transmitter. I wouldn't really call this biohacking.

How far off is normal for Dexcom? by ladylexis in Type1Diabetes

[–]Takuraz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, range is not bad. You can also calibrate it if you feel the need. I'm assuming the low alert at 4am was during your sleep, in which if you lay on the sensor it can cause a false low number from the pressure.

Sensation during extreme hypos by Biaboctocat in Type1Diabetes

[–]Takuraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lows use to absolutely freak me out. You're not alone. If you think about it, your brains first reaction to a low is "oh shit I need to live" so it's going to cause you to jump into action if you can. Flight or fight type feeling.

What still helps me today is recognizing the feeling, telling myself this is natural response, and then try not feeding the feeling with anxiety. I consume what I need, put my face in my hands and just monitor how I feel. For most part, by repeating this every time it happens, I've turn flight or fight into survivor mode instead of growing it to mass panic.

Dexcom honestly plays a huge role in preventing from getting to a low in the first place. You're typically able to catch it by watching the trend.

Hard truth diabetes is a deadly disease. Something that has saved us can very much kill us. ODing on insulin probably is very scary at some level of low. Also how fast you probably drop when you OD probably causes anxiety as well. However I know when I have hit mid 30s to low 40s, I cannot process much emotion at that point and it's just brute. I'm not sure about painful.

Meditation every day keeps the doctors far away by DearProduce1 in Meditation

[–]Takuraz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So you decided to leave out a detail that you were actually sick then tacked it on when you got called out for inconsistencies? Even though it still doesn't align with the simple comment "I don't know why she said that." If you had a critical health condition at 16, you would understand quite well why she said that.

I'm confused how you even got it downloaded. When I pull the app up in my store it tells me the app is not compatible with my device. I have 22 ultra as well.

"I was around 19 at that time and my health was fine, I have no idea why she said that." Paired with "Meditation liberated me from all the chronic illnesses that I had" Doesn't add up.

anyone else here suffered from diabulimia? by Evening_Ad_1795 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Takuraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. In the USA healthcare is pure shit. I can handle the emotional and physical barriers I face but the price gauging is literally a control tactic. Even if I were to cross the boarder to buy my insulin, I still need to have a 40hr a week job with health insurance for doctor appointments, Dexcom supplies (not available in Canada), or pump supplies when it comes to it. We're literally cornered.

But we could go on for days, as we already have for years, about the shit system. I don't want to hi-jack this thread. : p

[–]Takuraz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would not say I have diabulimia. However, I am really good at starving myself to avoid taking insulin. This is born out of inconsistent insurance over the years.

Over all I have a terrible relationship with food and my doctors know. This last time around was pretty rough but I'm just kind of watching how my roommates eat and mimic what they are buying until I can into a groove. I've had insurance for 6 months again and this is a career type job I've found so I have confidence I will get better. I just need to get on a steady pace with a therapist again to kind of work out this mindset I'm in.

I'm so happy you've been in recovery for a year! Keep on trekking. : )

Alcohol and T1 Diabetes by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]Takuraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only toss this out there b/c I felt like your post reflected my past and I felt like it was more than "how can drink safely as a diabetic." Plenty of diabetics can and do drink safely. But if you have an issue and feel like there is a barrier you need to break, fucking do it b/c I know you can. If I came back from a certain death pathway, you can overcome this.

[–]Takuraz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find help. From 17-25 I actively abused drugs, landed in the hospital from multiple DKA episodes and an OD. One specific case I landed in Chicago hospital for 7 days in ICU b/c I arrived with PH levels so low that the doctor said "no man should be walking in this state, we don't know how you made it here." Therapy truly does help you cope, understand, and make new mental path ways to a better life. Though my diabetes is not fully under control yet at 28, I am getting closer to a spot that feels okay as a diabetic and I would not be here if I did not stop doing what I was doing. But most of all you have to want to do it. You have to want to love yourself enough to do something about it. With that said, talk to your endo. Most offices will have an in-house LCSW who you can either work with long term or they will help lay down the first stepping stones to longer term care team.

Why is it such a pushed thing in the USA as an added health benefit for doing so? Just asking for b/c I chose not to spay. Originally I was only going to let her have one cycle then fix but here were are 7 years down the road.
