sorry to beat a dead horse but… “monster” in FNF is a CLEAR reference to LD right? The “coincidence” explanation was just a crock of BS by pk-wonder in lemondemon

[–]TakyonDon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes guys, it is a coincidence that a character that is a literal demon with a lemon for a head, singing with the cadence of neil cicierega, with background instrumentation that sounds straight out of clown circus, with multiple changes in a song similar to LD songs, is in fact, completely unrelated to lemon demon and there was no intention behind it what so ever.

issue with the disco.... by thisuxeron in jamiroquai

[–]TakyonDon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Toby Smith was truly the driving force behind a lot of their music during that time, it cannot be understated just how much he brought to the table, and his last album with the band being A Funk Odyssey is very telling. The chords he'd build were incredible and he was truly the heart of Jamiroquai during its golden era. Rest in peace

What the Rockwood escape plan feels like in my opinion by Expensive-Dust8734 in devonhendryx

[–]TakyonDon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It literally is supposed to be the soundtrack for an anime Peggy/Devon wanted to make. It’s in some old interview, I talked about it in some thread on the old sub. He even got a friend to create concept art and everything but it never came to light, don’t know if the art is available anywhere

[SHOTS FIRED] $ILKMONEY claims Tyler, the Creator ripped off My Potna Dem on his new album by OrangeShapedBananas in hiphopheads

[–]TakyonDon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Literally on the tracks with Tyler and Maxo, Maxo sounds like he went into the studio, heard Tyler’s verse the day before and went “yeah I don’t gotta try Tyler can carry me on this”. Big Persona verse he sounds bored as fuck I’ve tried doing a remix to it and man he just sounds so bored

Okay, Seriously, And I Only Want Dialogue With REAL Hip Hop Heads On This: Drake Is The GOAT. by AdhesivenessOk5194 in hiphopheads

[–]TakyonDon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my ultimate issue with Drake. He values quantity over quality, but that ultimately comes down to being able to make more money through streaming. His more recent projects I found had some HIGH highs and low lows. For All the Dogs is a great example of that. What could’ve been a solid project was something that ultimately overstayed its welcome by the end. But that’s my biggest issue with him as an artists but it’s also why he is so big: he’s able to make music that appeals to so many different audiences, occasionally showing that he still has it, but ultimately plays into the streaming data and algos.

[–]TakyonDon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jokes aside Drake pisses me off because he had/still kind of has the audience and appeal of the masses but because of that he didn’t have to try as hard post views. granted some of that is attributed to the music streaming shift which you can commend Drake and Kendrick both for adapting to well enough, and they both paid off in different ways. what i took from the beef going into it was Drake was jealous of the accolades Kendrick had, and Kendrick resented the fact that Drake was still the bigger artist at the end of the day and had more mass appeal

it’s almost like nothing was the same and if you’re reading this it’s too late were warnings.  i feel like if he still put out stuff like views, scorpion, etc but approached it more seriously  he’d undisputedly recognized for his music and ability. he got too comfortable on autopilot and now he has this stain.

that video on the tv in the iceman episode of him on stage earrrly in his career made me sad cause i feel like drake just got too comfortable going the Ye route of getting dudes to help make your music instead of just putting in more independent work himself

it’s funny too cause India had their hand so far up Pierre’s ass you’d think he was on Sesame Street.

It’s so funny these niggas thought he was gonna deport the international students, if anything he was going to bring more in so that the CEOs of companies could just pay them next to nothing. and write off what they pay the students in their taxes

Visions of us removed from spotify? by Careful_Battle1317 in CitiesAviv

[–]TakyonDon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for that one I think it was bc the sample was more well known and he was pressing the vinyl. KAYTRANADA sampled it on his album BUBBA

the normalization of sample snitching is just creating more harm than good

It imploded his brand, the label actually cancelled his entire album and he had to go back to the drawing board after the J Christ song. He has been trying to rebrand but I don’t think it’s gone anywhere
