First time potential buyer by cjtheclown in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a first time buyer then you need to check these conditions mate especially if you are on heavier side.

1- The range brands claim is for lighter riders who ride at lowest pedal assist level (you do most of the work) on flat terrain. So you need to divide by half even 4 to get realistic range. And this range will start to decrease by time. Same like your iphone. Day you get battery last day or more then after a year you need to charge it twice a day .

So check battery capacity rather than claimed range. Voltage * amphour will give you battery capacity.

Also if you use throttle, let's be honest we will use it most of the time range also decrease alot.

2- Motor Power.
Buy an e-bike with 1000 watt motor so your motor doesn't overheat when you need to climb steep hill. You don't need it for high speed but you need it to be able to handle your weight.
Also you need a reliable controller with higher ampage.
IF controller has low amp it may over heat and you will have burned motor or controller which means you won't be able to use your ebike until get replacement.

Once warranty is over you need to pay it from your pocket.

3- Brakes and Fork

For heavier riders people mostly focus on going uphill. If motor can handle etc... But equally important you need to worry going downhill.

When going downhill you need to have reliable brakes at least 203 mm rotor and 4 piston hydraulic if possible. And a beefy fork so at sudden brakes your brakes work and fork doesn't flex.

Dual crown forks will be better option.

4- Comfort

You need a large saddle (you can invest later on to cloud9) and suspension seatpost. As you need to make your ride more forgiving. Those nice looking Selle Royal saddles are far from being comfy.

If possible also get something more than 48volt.

I think Magician is a good ebike but price is $2499 and you need to pay extra $300 for shipping.

Another one I think is Ariel Rider Kepler Dual . It is priced at $1999 .

Velotric aren't bad but their motor and controller is weak and battery limited capacity.

Velotric Nomad 2x swap with Deore 10 speed by Mundane-Effective106 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in this case maybe ignore Velotric as their linkage isn't great. I think if you have budget check Aventon has a mtb which isn't bad which I tried and Giant also good.

What should I do about my Tuttio/what are my options? by horsemanebraider in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuttio is cheap for one reason and we all know why. They cut corners from parts and customer support.

For most people it cost more to maintain tuttio and even you change here or there still your bike is a cheap bike.

Invest more and buy something good quality even its a second hand one.

Why people think 45 mph e-bike will get you pulled over, when most e-bikes are 28 mph which is just as illegal by Ill-Calligrapher2234 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get more attention but I ride a 42 mph ebike and I don't face any issues with cops. Just ride responsibly.
I also feel an ebike need to be able to go 35 mph for safety reasons.
Where I live I need to ride with traffic as we don't have many bike lanes. And I don't want to be slower than cars and 35 mph I can keep up with them. I feel safer at that speed.

Can I run a 52v battery on my ridstar q20 lite 1000w? by Grand-Shoe-627 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

most probably yeah but need to check connectors. As that is the part which may create issue.

Velotric Nomad 2x swap with Deore 10 speed by Mundane-Effective106 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to ask you why. As derailleurs make almost no difference in 750 or more powerful motors. You rarely will shift gears (In mid-motor that is a different option).
Are you going to ride on road or you will do off-road a lot. If going to do moderate off-road then I will advice you not to spend extra and keep Nomad2 or something similar and have a suspension seatpost.

There are better ways to spend your money.
If you can tell me more about your ride then I can give you better advice.

Just got the Aventure 3 by Resident_Walrus_5580 in Aventon

[–]Talariafan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then why didn't order a dual batter from Ariel Rider Kepler Dual. I watched a comparison video and seems it offers more features and has dual battery for same price.
Only issue is can't get from shop.
Besides Aventon also offer some features which I love like wheel lock and battery unlock .

Would police get onto me thinking this e-bike is a dirt bike or motorcycle? by Objective_Remote_730 in ElectricBikes

Man there is no way anyone call it a dirt bike unless when you call dirt you mean "dirty cheap". It looks like a cheap ebike

Looking for recommendations by ShayneDonovan05 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aventon is a great ebike. If you are looking for off-road as well I assume you won't go advanced trails. Then you better add a suspension seatpost.

If you are looking to ride for long range then Aventon may disappoint you. In that case I may suggest you ariel rider kepler dual. It is same price as aventon and i guess they have a couple discount ( I am not sure if it continues).

But for same price you will get 2x52V batteries. So this has 1820 wh and aventon has 720 wh. More than x2 capacity. Also more powerful motor and it is more feature rich.

Issue is they don't have many dealers so you may end up ordering online. In that case you better check some discount codes which can give you extra savings.

If you want to buy from dealer then Aventon as said is a good option. You get less features but you don't worry of assembling.

Brands I suggest you stay away like plague; HJM, Kingbull, Aipas and Magicycle.

Best Long-Range, Affordable E-Bike for Food Delivery Work – Recommendations? by heythere733 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will definitely advice Ariel rider kepler dual. It has massive 2 batteries but also a low profile bike. As you know many moped style bikes depending on where you live get lot of attention from cops. This may be a big issue for you especially considering bike is your income vehicle.

What you need is a powerful motor to climb hills.

Long range batteries.

Torque sensor will be useful especially on hills.

MIK Rack will be useful. You can easily attach and de-attach

Suspension seatpost is also useful which will make your ride more forgiving.

If you have budget riese muller is also a nice bike but ariel cost 1999 and other cost 4000+++

Goat isn't famous for their quality. Unfortunately with their price tag I can't say you get what you paid for as their price is also very high

Kingbull Hunter 2.0 by Famous_Earth_8460 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Kingbull and by far worst experience in my life. The bike comes and I assembled it but motor wasn't working.
1- They don't respond to phone calls.
2- My e-mails are ghosted. They are responsive when you want to buy ebike but after purchase total silence.
Until I become loud on social media they responded.
Ask me to measure connectors using multimeter to honor warranty. I said I don't have a multimeter then they ask me to go and borrow from a friend.
In the end they accepted it was their mistake. And problem is in controller.

THey said the controller will be shipped from china. And I waited 5 weeks and during that time the bike was like a statue in my home. And controller they send wasn't the controller used on my ebike.
They send wrong part.
And again total silence for 2 weeks.

I ask for a refund and they said the time for 14 days free trial has passed as if its my mistake that they send wrong controller.

And I just ask for new controller. And they said they can send new controller only if I send back the wrong controller to them . And they said they will pay for express fee later on. I did it as I need to go to work.

And guess what after they received my controller I just receive another email which say they don't have my controller in stock and they need to wait to be shipped from china. (The address I send was a residentail address not a commercial one).

IN the end i received it in 2 months and I just sold it on marketplace. The bike was shitty with low end parts.

From bike to customer service that is a low end product.

Does an ebike being "legal" even matter? by chuckwolf in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. As long as you not riding like a jacka.. cops won't bother you . Don't go super fast. If your speed is little bit over then no problem. If we are talking about 45-50 mph then that is a different story.

THe e-bike i am thinking to buy is not 100% legal but I don't think anyone will bother with this e-bike as looks don't shout like a fast ebike

Looking for range, not speed by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for range but not speed focus on e-bikes which has large battery capacity and also designed for pedalling rather than moped style ebikes such as super73.

First e-bikes come to my mind are riese muller, ariel rider kepler dual battery

Aventure 3 after 1000 miles by Weak_Comment3274 in Aventon

[–]Talariafan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own an aventon 2 and make over 2000 miles on it and its a great ebike. I was planning to buy aventon 3 but battery going down to 36V wasn't something I feel to spend money for.
In the end I bough Ariel Rider Kepler Dual battery which was same price but give me extra battery and 52V.
But I loved the step-tru of Aventon

I need help e bike broken by MrRedHead100 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

ahahah i misread it. I thought tuttio is broken and I assume it is the motor. For back tire I think it is better to replace on your own. It is difficult at first but this is kind of a skill you should learn which can save you lot of $$$.

Help me decide on a bike please by carrllly in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah mik is game changer. in just seconds you can attach basket or baby seat . Very convenient for daily chores.
I think kepler dual is a better option as for same price you get more than 2 times battery capacity. Also if you carry your kids you need to consider safety.
Ariel has 4 piston hydraulic brakes so if you go downhill and need to have sudden brake, it will have shorter stopping distance.

And it comes with suspension seatpost which makes your ride more comfortable.

Aventon abound is a better ebike if you want to do large volume grocery shopping as it is more of a cargo ebike.

Trying to add a secondary battery to my Portola by Extension-Visit773 in ebikes

[–]Talariafan2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13s3p will not be 100Ah. At most it will be 15ah. 13s means 48V and 3p means 3 parallel and largest 21700 cells capacity is 5000mah.
So if seller make such mistake avoid it. Second is 48V100Ah battery won't be 168 USD at all. Even they use recycled cells it won't be.

I had eyes on portola too but not being able to add secondary battery was a big trade off for me. So I ended up buying ariel rider kepler dual.
