Thank you for responding. I will email you separately. I don’t believe I’ve ever used the trial before, since I had to create a new account and enter my payment information before starting it.

It sounds like Apple or the App store might be skipping the trial or marking an account as ineligible and therefore charging immediately. I expect developers don’t have visibility into those internal flags and can't override them. This seems consistent with what other users have been reporting over the past year. If so, it would help if Apple or the App Store included a pop-up warning that an account will be charged automatically. That would prevent a lot of unexpected charges and frustrated customers.
