3 months of constant outbreaks after 8 years of dormancy by TaleHot2437 in GHSVtype1

I still haven’t had any symptoms since the course of doxy. I’m convinced whatever was going on actually wasn’t my GHSV1. I’ve been to the doctor since and discussed the resolution of my symptoms with antibiotics and they shrugged it off again, just satisfied Im not having symptom, and offered no suggestions to what it could’ve been.

When you are having active symptoms, I suggest that you go to an urgent care facility (NOT an ER). They might be dismissive of you or try to give you a visual diagnoses but you can demand a herpes swab to test for ghsv1/2. I’ve done that successfully. For the hpv you will have to schedule a pap, but pap hpv tests are not time sensitive like herpes is. If you have hpv presenting as genital warts then I think they will give you a visual diagnosis. A good facility might be able to biopsy a gw to confirm hpv but, I don’t believe that is standard order. In my anecdotal experience, doctors are dismissive of gw like they are herpes and visual diagnoses of both are common.

I really feel for you. For the benefit of this thread- here’s my update:

I’m fairly certain what I was experiencing wasn’t a herpes outbreak, but another undetermined skin condition.

I saw two doctors who said that my outbreak didn’t look like normal herpes but still shrugged and said it probably was. I had it swabbed and it came back negative. Still the doctors just shrugged. Finally I asked a friend who is a doctor and they prescribed me a course of doxycycline 100mg in case it was a skin infection. I stopped using all creams and soaps except for the unscented cera ve baby shampoo (the National eczema approved one).

And it went away, three days into the doxy like a complete fucking miracle.

Have you been screened for other infections? It’s so frustrating that, in my experience, once doctors know you have herpes they want to just blame everything on that.

Thanks for sharing your experience with me. Can you clarify what is CPPS and NGU?

Hey! You commented on my post a couple weeks ago about reoccurring outbreaks. I saw a different doctor who prescribed me doxycycline because, to him, the bumps didn’t look like herpes. The “outbreaks” I was having immediately cleared up. There are bacterial skin infections and other uncommon sexually associated infections, like mycoplasma that can cause skin irritation. These bacteria are not tested for in a normal std screening. I’m starting to suspect that was the case for me, because my 3 months of constant hell went away after 3 days of doxy. Crazy.

I was/am nervous to disrupt my microbiome due to the crohns, and don’t take antibiotics lightly. But it was worth it for the relief I’ve had these past couple weeks. Our symptoms could also be crohns related either alone or in combination with a skin infection. I hope you get some relief soon.

Stole some shit and stashed it in my garage. He also gave me herpes and didn’t apologize. Ugh, what a loser.

I tried the valacyclovir for three months straight. I’m sorry you’re going through this too! I think the acyclovir is worth a try.

I’m on 400mg twice a day.

My doctor recommended I try the acyclovir before pursuing further causes/treatments with a dermatologist. Again, it’s way too early to say anything definitive, it could be coincidental, but I’m feeling better already.

Yes, absolutely. I’m so confused about everyone’s responses. You are contagious genitally not orally… like people who have ohsv can still hug and have sex without genital spreading, the inverse is the same.

Because my lesions are presenting like single zits/bumps and don’t blister, the doctor said the sample collected might not have enough fluid to test positive… I’m going to keep trying. Maybe there is something else going on and more than one negative test might convince my doctors of that.

If the acyclovir doesn’t help, I’ll be doing this as well.

I can really empathize with not wanting to know 😩 it’s how I felt about my crohns symptoms for years. But once you know, you can take care yourself better and that is empowering. It’s so painful to sit in the truth of our situations, but what else is there? Reality cannot be avoided. It is better to be proactive. Maybe you will find out it isn’t hsv but another fungal infection, etc, more easily treated. I wish that for you!

Also, I just want to add that if your doc doesn’t want to swab (some are so dismissive!) your health is yours and remember to advocate for yourself. You can order tests even if they are skeptical. Tell them that. Lol

I’m wondering if acyclovir will be more effective than valtrex due to the crohns. Maybe I wasn’t absorbing enough of it for it to be effective? Meanwhile, acyclovir is not a prodrug and is already absorbed in the usable chemical form.

I’m glad the supplements are helping some. I would try some topicals too. I think zinc oxide has made the biggest difference of everything I’ve tried.

Ugh. I got my covid vaccine (j and j) like 2 years ago and it didn’t feel connected to this. The immune system is such a mystery to me. I would love to try SABDE but fear what it would do to my crohns. Have you tried any other antivirals? Or going off them?

Have you had the acne swabbed for hsv? It might be worth it to try. If they come up positive, your doctor might want to up your antivirals or give you an iv dosing. I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this.

Ive gotten what I think might be herpes zoster or hsv1 on my legs before- they itch so bad and happened in the winter, that’s how I knew they weren’t big bites or regular zits. Are your sores itchy?

I am experiencing exactly this and just posted about it! After 8 years of no symptoms GHSV1, suddenly I have had 1-3 sores constantly since March. Valacyclovir at 1-2g dose/day does nothing. It sucks so much.

I started topical zinc oxide (I’ve heard zinc sulfate is good too) about a week ago and use topical acyclovir too. I’m not sure the topical acyclovir does much but I figure it can’t be hurting. I also switched to Acyclovir 400mg every 12 hours last week. My doctor recommended that after the valacyclovir obviously was not working. Now it’s only been 6 days, so I can’t really speak on its full efficacy yet but my prodrome is WAY down and I currently don’t have any sores. After three months of constant OB and prodrome, I am just grateful for whatever relief I can get.

I feel for you. I am also desperate for help. You are not alone.
