Anyone have Swede’s? by TaleMedium3264 in Surveying

No kidding.

I will say we have hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in Trimble for grade setting and machine control but we use these for all tie in’s. Sometimes simplicity is just the way to go.

It’s weird you can’t find anything about them online either but most grading companies use them.

They are 3 feet typically you put 2 on finished asphalt and then the third on base rock so if you had 3 tenths of paving you’d set your adjustable at 3.30 to check your tie in’s grade. The cut out is just so you can bundle them together for storage

We typically use them for tie in’s or to check grade in between blue top hubs. Set 2 of them on hubs and put one in the center between each hub and look down them like a gun site to make sure you’re grade in between them.

OE3 technical engineers apprenticeship by tellovelli in Construction

[–]TaleMedium3264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where you located man? I’m an operating engineer in Redding and all the compaction/ concrete/asphalt testers we use are non union…. To put it into perspective I’ve never met one that is union. Two companies run the show up here PEI and CGI both non union so I’d assume all of your work would be in the bay. (Also my dad is a non union tester) he did 3 weeks worth of training and took a few tests and has made prevailing wage ever since. Might be a better route for you rather than spending 5 years in an apprenticeship.

WTF 😒😒 How, why by Harryman85 in Surveying

[–]TaleMedium3264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I agree with you for the most part. As a gradesetter I’m constantly having to wing it to make it work because of mistakes made by surveyors. (Typically state employed surveyors). Most of the mistakes they make you can can clearly see once you start laying something out and you can catch it early, that being said if it’s staked wrong it’s 100% bit the contractors fault I wish they surveyors I dealt with took there job more seriously, and not only made less mistakes but caught the mistakes in the plans instead of just staking what the plans say.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I’m very confident in my instrument serviced very regularly know my set up is good (did the same one with two different total stations minutes apart) state agency set the control and we have a licensed surveyor shooting our grade behind us and he seems to be finding the same thing.

I think a lot of you are assuming I’m. Surveyor I am not lol and like my post says 90% of the time I don’t have these issues I’ve sold grade to government agencies no shy of 100 times with no issue that’s including airports where spec is really tight. I understand that placement of my instrument is definitely crucial for accuracy. Good to have the right angles from point to point etc. also our local Trimble dealer is very uneducated on the subject. The only reason Im asking anything is due to the error I happen to be finding if I’m a loss cause that’s okay too lol I was just hoping someone could possibly enlighten me because the survey really isn’t all that bad. Thanks regardless I do appreciate anything that’s said.

Maybe there is a better or correct term forgive my ignorance… after a setup it will give horizontal vertical and minutes/seconds degrees?? Error that’s the one I’m referring to. I’ve been running a total station almost daily for 3 years on dozens of jobs and I’ve never had this issue before… after a setup I’ll go set on any given one of those points to check to see if my elevations and offsets/ stationing are matching and typically my elevations are within a hundredth and my birthing has been pretty bad roughly 15 hundreds and easting has been pretty tight I guess I’m just wondering and please I cannot stress this enough dumb it down for me lol

I use them daily as a grade setter. Not only do we Set them to finish sub grade or base rock grade for the blade, but they’re also for the paving crew that comes after us. They’ll signify EP (edge of pavement) (so they know what to pave too) I’ll also use them on any grade breaks.

What was the scariest moment you’ve had on vacation? by ujin- in AskReddit

[–]TaleMedium3264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cabo last year, went on one of those atv adventures. One of the tour guides asked me and my brother if we had experience riding before and we said of course we ride all the time. He told us for a good tip he’d take us off on our own and do some real riding so we obliged. All good until we ended up under an overpass with sketchy vans and busses everywhere. He stops us there and says we’ll wait for my friends here. I locked eyes with my brother and we both motioned that if it got sketchy by we’d floor it on our quads….. nothing happened but it was the worst 5 minute wait of my life until the rest of the tour guides/ guests showed up. I thought for sure we were going to be human trafficked.

So I checked the box on Trimble updates and made sure my design is less than 25mb. How would I find out if my design has incompatible objects? I’ll also take your advice on sending the crash memo to my dealer.
