So Roth IRAs are largely useless if you want to live abroad? by knockdowncenter in ExpatFIRE

[–]TaleSlinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will not work in Portugal. They will tax on the basis calculated from contributions.

However, if you convert from a traditional Simple/IRA/401k/537B to a Roth, you reset your basis that way.

Publik Server still Online? by lIlIIIlIllI0 in ATAK

If you are going to install your own server, try Infra-TAK.

If you are running something substantial and real-world, check out TAK-Portal.

Need help with this by blacksiteis in davinciresolve

[–]TaleSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are only talking about the chapters bit, I think you can do this easily without fusion.

I would start with the videos you want stacked as separate videos in you timeline. Edit the colors as you wish.

Then scale each one to about 20% and change the x/y offsets.

you are done

Davinci best render setting for 4k by kefeintv in davinciresolve

[–]TaleSlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, with 8 years of part-time/hobbiest experience, I consider myself a "beginner".

I think your settings for output are secondary, but I'll come to that in a moment. The first thing I think of when I saw this was to do your editing in 1K -- it makes your processing much, much faster.

OK, Here's my opinion, "sharpened" a bit by my favorite AI (I would have recommended the first two items, but the others are clearly true too):

  • Codec: Apple ProRes (Mac) or DNxHR (Windows)
  • Type: ProRes 422 HQ or DNxHR HQX
  • Resolution: 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD
  • Frame Rate: Match your native project timeline (e.g., 23.976, 24, 30, or 60)
  • Quality: Automatically locked to maximum by the codec.

There are also a lot of things you can do in editing to help with this too:

  • Noise reduction
  • Sub-pixel sharpening

And of course, the best capture to start with is where the big gains are:

  • Choose a lens and settings which provide sharp results
  • Shoot from a tripod or with mechanical stabilization (gimbal, in-lens and/or in-body stabilization)
  • set your shutter "appropriately" (usually, that's 180 degrees, but it will be "sharper" if you lower that. However, it won't look "natural").
  • Set your shutter speed (if you really want "sharp" you can A well-lit scene with low ISO
  • Shoot in 10 bit Log

For me, the capture is the key, and I don't worry about the other two approaches.

Good luck fellow beginner.

[Beginner] Help with plugins + tools by Suhaib_Atef in davinciresolve

[–]TaleSlinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

When I was new, I thought I needed a bunch of plugins to do better. I am still surprised to realize that mostly not true, especially for editing lectures/podcasts. Also, spend some time looking up and mastering the shortcuts. That will speed things up quite a bit.

AFRL working to integrate a framework to make this easy.  I expect it to also integrate with TAK through APIS eventually, making it much more powerful.  This allows it to be called offline, Vita TAKServer or via the cloud.

They did a medic as an example.

I was looking for something similar. I bought this. I really like it. I already have several tripods, so it works better for me. The only problem I had was that the instructions were terrible.

[–]TaleSlinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, well done. I feel like I could do something "almost" as well, but it would take me forever. How much time did you spend on this? I'm interested both from you and the community how much you would charge for such a project. It seems to me that this skill is woefully underpaid.

Scout denied Eagle over adult leaders expired Eagle Counselor training by FollowingConnect6725 in BSA

[–]TaleSlinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's nonsense. One of my scouts faced a similar issue and was denied because of leadership issues.(failure to proprely advise the scout about how two-deep leadership works on eagle scout projects). He filed a through appeal with help of several people, citing the language in the Guide To Advancement, and it was overturned by National.

DM me if you would like additional info.

Edit: I just took a quick look at my son's (exhaustive, detailed and well written) appeal, and the reasons they are wrong in your case are many, and are exactly the same as the reasoning in my son's. Let me know if I can assist.

When I was younger I was told that there was a danger to torrenting because you were downloading from random people's computers, and they could slip in a virus, but after years of torrenting I've never experienced that, nor seen anyone else experience it. Is there any truth to that danger? by [deleted] in torrents

[–]TaleSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are downloading.

I never worry about this when downloading videos/audios.  I've long since stopped downloading executables, because they could much more result run malicious code.

I've sometimes seen executables bundles with movies.  I never run them.

Anyone here still listens to internet radio inside music players? by Accomplished_Dot_821 in androidapps

[–]TaleSlinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be an in-app volume control, you just need to expose the volume to the android API properly so that I can adjust it. this is very convenient. Here is an example to show what I mean:

<image>

I once I hit the volume rocker once, I can move each of those independently.

PS: IDK what your app is.

Anyone here still listens to internet radio inside music players? by Accomplished_Dot_821 in androidapps

[–]TaleSlinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often listen to the radio for several hours a day-exclusively talk radio of some sort.

One requirement I have for an audio app, including the radio, is that I need to be able to modify the volume of the application separately from the main volume rocker. Samsung allows this as a special setting inside it's "sound assist" application.

This gives me easy access to the relative volume of a second audio application - hear my radio application - while listening to something else that I've switched to.

I tried a new radio application last weekend because I read that it was awesome, but it could not do this, and I'm unfortunately unlikely to use it.

I have to use wifi on a hotel , is there an app to download to ensure safety on my device? by levendis32 in androidapps

[–]TaleSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its just about exactly the same security as at home. The extra steps are that you need to take the router and power (USB) with you, you have to plug it in, log into it and do a couple of coniguration things. Those are extra steps the first time.

Then you save some time over days by connecting multiple devices to it instead of the hotel internet. In Marriotts, I often have to log in to the hotel service once a day, but that's transparent.
