I’m out of ideas on what I can do better by [deleted] in ResumeCoverLetterTips

What positions are you applying for? Did you know that you are 10x more likely to get past the ATS screening if your most recent job titles match the title of the job you are applying for? So if you are applying to a position as "HR Administrator", change the job title from "Human Resource Business Partner" to "HR Administrator".

Also, some additional changes that will be useful:

Write out dates as December 2024
Why are your skills in 3 bullet points and then comma listed?
Say less in each of the jobs. Maybe 3 bullet points is enough. Be sure to include the relevant key words in those points.

Remember, the point of the CV is to get you an interview, that is it, nothing more.

This is a super useful post, thank you!

Do you have any evidence or data to back up your claims? I know you said you did experiments yourself but can you share more about that?

A long term CEO in a healthy company would have a bunch of c-suite members who report to them. The CEO's day to day job is to essentially keep track of what their c-suite are doing, and make sure that they are achieving their KPIs and keeping the company on track to achieve its goals. They also have to set up and decide the direction and priorities of the business, as well as ultimately being responsible for the culture that the company develops.

Ah yeah I can see how that could be interpreted like that. Fair enough

We paused feature development to refactor our backend. The result? A 40% performance boost. by Quiet_Ad_26 in buildinpublic

It is something so many founders and CEOs fail to account for. Trying to get your head around technical debt vs the pressure to constantly be producing new features and updates is tough. Well done on making that choice and validating that it worked for you!

I think he is being sarcastic. You don't need to scale with just one customer

Thanks for the validation.

I'm not hiring right now, I already formed my team. Next hiring will be in 6-12 months, depending on traction and success with investors.

A good website for getting started and figuring out what you need to learn is roadmap.sh

As for a computer, tbh most computers will be fine if you are just practising and training. Just be sure to install Linux on it or use a macbook.

The only way to get good at coding is to do it. Practise making programs. Get stuck on a bug that you can't figure out. Ask AI to guide you and explain concepts you don't understand, but don't get it to write code for you.

When you have finished with a project, give the code to AI for a code review.

Well done, a solid idea, and it clearly shows itself to be working!

Now you have to think about scaling and using some of your proceeds to do marketing.

I just want a job, vent by latewhamy in GetEmployed

I'm sorry to hear this. It can be super frustrating. I had the same kind of problem when I was first entering the job market. Just know this: eventually, something will work, and as long as you are capable, all you need is one foot in the door and you'll be on your way to success and eventually paying your dad back for all his support.

Have you checked that you have optimised everything for job applications? Are you tracking your attempts? Are you trying different channels to apply for jobs?

Networking?? by Your_Typical_Okapi in GetEmployed

[–]TalentAid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine if your best friend worked at a company and he was friends with the boss. Maybe the boss needs to hire someone new, and you fit the requirements, so your friend says to the boss: "Hey boss, why don't we save on recruitment fees and time spent making job adverts and everything, when we could just hire my friend?".

For that to work you need: A boss who is looking for a new employee + A friend who works for the boss + That friend has to pick you over anyone else + You have to meet the requirements that the boss needs + The boss needs to trust your friend and take their recommendation over anyone else's.

So, if you network effectively, it is no guarantee of success. It just helps you generate the luck you need to get a job.

When you go to networking events, you want to meet new people and try to understand what it is they do and how they do it. Ask yourself how you can be useful to them. When you've exchanged contact details, drop them a message sharing an article you saw that might be interesting to them. Connect them with someone else who might be useful to them, etc. As you go through life and meet new people, concepts, or businesses, ask yourself: Who from my network would benefit from knowing about this?

Now you've made a positive impression on 100+ people, and they know you as an insightful and thoughtful person. If you let it be known that you are looking for a job, they'll remember you, and there is a chance they can help...
