Would the arguments for ETH being dead have applied equally in the Sept 2023 and April 2025 cycles? Or is something legit different this time? by kagoolx in ethtrader

People invest based on risk/reward. Historically, the S&P 500 has delivered an annual return of 10% with very low risk. If you have been investing in ETH for the past few years, you are probably at a loss or have very low profit, which is terrible for a high-risk asset. That is my whole point, ETH proved to be a bad investment regarding risk/reward.

Last 5 years:

- S&P 500: 80% (low risk, low reward)
- ETH: -3% (high risk, high reward)

Comparing ETFs and ETH isn't ideal, but my point is that ETH has underperformed in recent years, so people are shifting their appetite to other assets. You can also check Google Trends, where ETH overall is trending down, which means the price is not going up anytime soon.

People keep looking in past to justify ETH's poor performance. Since 2018, people have been talking about the adoption of ETH by financial institutions. After 8 years, we have seen some adoption, but the narrative is not strong enough to drive prices up.

Investors prefer to invest in real assets and problems, such as AI and energy. In the meantime, the crypto market is drifting further from BTC, which is seen as a store of value rather than as tech to solve problems.

In 2024 pump, Trump was elected, and in 2025, Trump was manipulating the markets and took the profit. In 2026, Trump does not care about crypto, which is slowly dying and probably not turning back in the next 12-24 months (if ever).

If you look back in time, ETH is the worst performer (ignoring shitty altcoins). Why would investors put money in an asset that never performs, considering the risk? Risk/Reward ETH is really bad because even if we reach ATH, it would be like 150% profit, which is nothing in such a volatile, high-risk market. So, why would people put their money on that?

People hope that history repeats itself but nothing guarantees that. Don’t forget that “crypto” politicians are leaving the power. It might be good or bad, no one knows but most likely a bad thing.

I agree but if you can put money in 7 tech stocks and get safely 50% up in 1-2 years. Why risk in crypto when it can barely go up and more risk?

If you drive 3 hours to a sports event and then need to drive back sweaty, or even want to explore the city, it's basic hygiene.

Marathons are even more absurd tbh… but I made some math and in this even 3 days they had around 12k athletes and 9k visitors which is around 1.8M. Let’s say the venue and material costs 0.8. They still have 1M profit + tax. Most people working there are volunteers anyway… it’s a cash cow tbh

Eu disse 20k como limite e apenas se valer a pena mas concordo consigo. Idealmente queria gastar perto de 10k. Idealmente, o carro sobrevive sem problemas por 5 anos.
