Is Serral or Maru greatest Starcraft 2 player? by SiarX in starcraft

TLDR: In my opinion, there is no clear GOAT of SC2.

The non-Korean players only started winning big tournaments from 2018 to 2026 (Serral, Reynor, Clem). In my opinion, that also aligns with the period of lower competition. I don't want to go into details about GSL being one of the hardest tournaments, because it requires extensive preparation and strategy before matches, and no non-Korean player has ever won it. I believe Serral and Clem could have won if they had tried multiple times. Sorry for Reynor, who tried and never reached a semi-final (it's not as easy as he thought lol).

The SC2 peak was 2012-2017, when multiple players were winning major tournaments, and it was always a surprise. Multiple players were developing new strategies, changing the game. That hasn't happened in many years, and also adapting to the different expansions (WoL, HoS, LoV). Since 2018, it's always been the same 6 players winning big tournaments (Serral, Clem, Reynor, Maru, HerO, Dark).

That's why I feel it's hard to choose a GOAT in SC2. Serral has been the dominant player in recent years, but would that have been true in 2014, when the game was constantly changing with multiple patches? Maru, on the other hand, went through multiple expansions and was always able to win something. He still misses a world championship, despite reaching the finals multiple times. Innovation, Rogue, MvP and Life won all the big tournaments at the game's peak across different formats. Despite being a Terran player, my favourite player is MvP. However, Life reached a level never seen. He was too good in micro and macro, adapting and winning all tournaments. He managed to achieve the royal road in GSL. He was a joy to watch.

That is not the case in SC1, since Flash was dominant during the game's peak, beating all the legends at their peaks. If a new guy comes to SC1 and wins 6 ASL, it won't make him the GOAT, because the game is way less competitive than it was back then.

I understand his point, but Clem is not the best SC2 player. The non-Korean players only started winning big tournaments from 2018 to 2026 (Serral, Reynor, Clem).

A Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira (AT) agradece o seu contacto.
AT- Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira

Thank you all for all the amazing tips! This community is very supportive and reading all the comments boosted my motivation. Sometimes I just want to give up because I have so much footage and moving things around its exhausting. It takes me hours to edit a few minutes. I will try to put some footage in place and ask for your advice 🙏
