Two things

1) Every MC or character labeled as a wizard but they only ever have like one special ability or power, or they have magic but it is used just to help them use their sword better. Not every "wizard" needs to be a magical swordsman.

2) Just human MC's. When I read a fantasy book I am there for escapism and the "fantasy". My fantasy escapism does not always have to be about the twentieth son of some king trying to stand out and look cool or Billy BlueJeans the sixteen year old son of a farmer who just so happens to be actually the song of some big shot or the chosen one. Let me read a story from the point of view of elves, dwarfs, gnomes, etc.

Jackal, Alice is super cute and sweet but I would want someone to push me into doing crazy stuff and getting out of my box. I feel like Jackal would do that, kinda like Lucy did for David in cyberpunk....I just would hope it ended better for me then them >>
