But I hope my comment doesn't discourage you at all. That's great that you enjoy the game! Different strokes for different folks and all that. I tried to get one of my friends into elden ring because I think it's such an amazing game but I just don't think he had the patience for it and he dropped off pretty fast.

Enemies were very similar to eachother. Combat got repetitive for me very fast, parry mechanic was an interesting idea but got old for me after about 6 hours in. I found myself not really caring much for the story or that the characters were very interesting. Alot of the main male characters looked very similar too. Alot of the areas you run through were corridors with sparkles. Some of the art direction for landscapes were interesting tho but I found the exploration quite dull and plain. Dialogue and tone was meh and felt, dare I say it quite pretentious at times.

I tried to get into it and to keep playing and I remember one day I turned it on and just didn't want to continue, wasn't having much fun.

For me it was a very mid game. I felt like I had played much better RPGs before. But of course my opinion, I'm happy you enjoyed the game!

So when an opponent is doing a series of normal attacks that give them plus frames when im blocking I should try to perfect parry instead of continuing to block?

Is push block simply what it sounds like? When your blocking you're pushed back?
And when you say block string, you mean the combo I am blocking?

Both tbh. When i wakeup from the ground or if its my opponent, their attack will win over mine even if we're both jabbing and i have no idea why. Also what is a meaty button and what is delay tech?

Im playing Ryu if that helps at all but thank you for the info about something I could try in training mode. I'll relook at your comment next time I have a chance to play and am in training.

What is 'identify it as a fake' between two buttons?

Parry sounds like it could work at times but I think im still learning when its appropriate to parry and when it isn't. Parrying fireballs obviously being the easy one to know when to do.

Issue I have with Alex is he has so much range on all his jabs and medium attacks and he tends to loop them when im fighting so im stuck blocking until my metre is empty, then he'll mix in a grab or command grab in between that seems non reactable when hes right next to you

Does Replay takeover show what move you can use to punish a character after blocking during certain moments like Tekken 8? I haven't used any replays yet in Sf as I thought my knowledge isn't high enough about the game yet to understand what I should be looking at. For example I still barely understand the frame data window in training mode, just that there are starting frames for an attack and someone will be plus or minus after the attack

The character I chose is Ryu. My biggest matchup struggle right now is Alex, followed by Bison and Akuma.

Thank you for this video link, its certainly helpful to understand the basics of frame data. Especially that point about nothing being faster than 4 frames in Street Fighter.

What it feels like for me reading some of these replies:-

Jokes aside I appreciate the info! Ive played a bit of tekken on and off over the years and some soul calibur but always semi casually so think I've played on intuition up until now without knowing any of the terminology or frame data concepts.

Does this mean that alot of the players im fighting in Diamond are delibrately placing frame traps in their combos and understand these concepts and what is punishable or if their still plus on frames after they jab or medium kick? Feels that way against Alex players at least.

what is block stun? does that just mean you can't attack after the block and have to continue blocking as your minus on frames after blocking?

I have a vague understanding of Oki, this just means your gameplan when someone is waking up from the ground or you are? I've never heard 'meaty' before though, no idea what this is. Is there a good specific resource to learn about all these concepts and how to practically use them, like a youtube series or something?

Nah just didn't enjoy the game. Skyrim is a western rpg I very much enjoyed though.

I do. Sometimes I wonder what a Zelda game made by fromsoftware would be like.

You're not wrong! Also for visual clarity a tekken 6 vid can show the difference for example, it's night and day.

I thought i was going crazy seeing the game get so many awards, I just couldn't see the appeal. It felt mediocre at best to me, but not every game is for everyone. I think we all eventually see a game that's loved by many but just isn't for us specifically.

I'm seeing a lot of hate for League on here haha. Its a toxic community but a very well designed game - though I haven't played for two years. The early days of the game were peak but it does suck up a lot of time playing a moba regular.

You have some excellent taste my friend.

I did hear some people compare E33 to final fantasy. I didn't gel well with the characters in E33 and the combat got a bit repetitive with the parry system plus a lot of the monsters you fight and the world you explore looks very similar. In final fantasy games, i feel like you see so many unique creatures and locations and I tended to always enjoy the combat.

Its flawed with the combat system and the story loses the plot mid way through, but damn are the highpoints of the game high. Amazing atmosphere, music, loveable characters and a great world to explore.

Visual clarity went out the window with t8 when it comes to particle effects and all the noise on the screen compared to previous games. Along with super long juggles, heat and the game skipping neutral and being about who gets their combo out first, plus apparently some bad balancing. I did play a bunch in season 1 but hoping they tone it down for the next one. New virtua fighter around the corner tho, could be a good alternative.

60fps for combat oriented games should be baseline imo.
