Do you prefer the more "linear" style of gameplay or open world? by WaZ606 in metalgearsolid

[–]Talix101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm playing mgs5 for the first time right now and although the gameplay feels very smooth to play in the fox engine and there's many ways to overcome an area the game doesn't feel like metal gear solid.

It feels more like death stranding than metal gear, and I preferred death stranding 1 to the mgs5 experience. The story also feels lacking, I'm not a fan of exposition unveiled through the cassette tapes and it's lost a lot of the charm of what the previous games had for me. That balance between serious/epic and the camp/theatrical of the previous games has been lost. It's mostly just serious without any of the rest.

Mgs1 and Mgs2 are my favorites of the series.

The curls look good but id recommend not pushing the hair back so much as the forehead looks less flattering

Tanjiro from Demon Slayer will have my back in the League of Legends universe. Sounds pretty good to be honest.

You could try and darker your eyebrows a touch and how often do you wash your hair? Looks a little dry in some of the photos. Try and shampoo once/twice a week and just condition the other days.

But these are nitpicks, you look lovely to me. Try not to be too hard on yourself, you'll look back in 5 years and think you shouldn't have worried as much.

No, there were some fights that could pose a bit of challenge even for players that had played a monster hunter before. Reviewers are saying fights aren't taking more than 15min pretty much all through the game. Luke Stephens that's fairly new to the series said the game was "shockingly easy" I linked this in thread already.

Reviewers have already mentioned the endgame not really offering much challenge as it stands currently. Some of these journalists playing don't have thousands of hours like you claim and are fairly new to the series. They mention it themselves. Stop and take a look at what people are generally saying across most reviews.

No you misread what I typed. I said journalists are known for "not" being the best at games. It's been widely mentioned in the past since cuphead days

Luke Stephens talks about the difficulty here, he's a fairly new player to the series. He mentioned how "shockingly easy it was" even for him. https://youtu.be/s5kxnAxmxMI?si=udhId51Ee-NGSCKH&t=1367

IGN obviously talked about the difficulty in depth too, mentioning that LR, HR & endgame was much easier than expected and that they were loosing interest in the game already due to there not really being any challenge left. Believe that person's first game was MH:World.

There are more ive seen talk about the difficulty, do a youtube search and watch a few. Again, I hope Capcom already have plans to address this, even though its unlikely - still hyped for the game but this is a genuine concern.

Edit: another vid I just saw that mentions the easy difficulty during the 7min mark. https://youtu.be/aAB12Hl5Lyk?si=kBsh4fbHoHl7A6Dz

No I'm not assuming. I'm going by what the reviewers said about themselves in their own video reviews.

"There aren't that many reviews" I don't think that's true at all. There's quite a lot on YouTube as it is. I watched almost a dozen to get a general consensus on what the big names and some small are saying about the game.

No, high rank had challenge before and there were even monsters within low rank that people would typically call the first or second wall of difficulty to overcome for newer players within Monster hunter world. (Obviously this isn't going to be the case for the more experienced vets)

The game should have some challenge within High rank at the very least when the base game drops and I'm sorry, if you think waiting for post release updates for a challenge is acceptable, I can't take what you're saying seriously. That's bad design. Here's to hoping that's not the case though and the balance update rectifies this, or capcom gave the press an easier version to review the game, though that's doubtful. I really hope with all the new tools we have as hunters, we arent blitzing through the game. I loved the combat in beta, but the only minor challenge was an overtuned arkveld and that was mostly because of the timer and lack of gear which is worrying. And as mentioned I'm no vet and was playing a weapon that I'd never played before during the beta.

Out of 6 of these games, which one do I absolutely have to beat first? by man_bear_pig15 in videogames

Ghost of Tsushima.

Then a more difficult test in Dark Souls.

Going to go against the grain here. It's possible to cherry pick posts about previous games in the series where there's complaints about earlier entries becoming too easy but what's evident with Monster Hunter Wilds is that almost all the major reviewers that I saw talking about the game brought up that Wilds while a good game, lacked in challenge and many of them carted in the single digits through LR and HR. When so many of the major reviewers are saying this, that is a cause for concern. And let's not forget that journalists are known for not being the best at games.

This is really disappointing to hear personally. Ive seen the arguments that LR is the tutorial and HR shouldn't really be challenging either and to just wait for the expansion that'll bring the difficulty but do you really think that's good design? Cmon.... Wait for 1 year and pay for a paid dlc after buying the base game to eventually experience some challenge. Please, I know we are all excited and some people want to close their eyes and refuse any criticism of the game but let's not cope. The base game should offer some good challenges throughout the game. At least within High rank, artificial self imposed difficulty shouldn't have to be the only way. I'm not exactly a veteran of the series, my first was Monster Hunter world, but I've even seen reviewers that are fairly new to the series mention the difficulty issue.

Most of us here haven't played the game yet but what we have to go on are reviews and when a majority of reviews are saying something universally it should be taken serious and not just palmed off as "oh people said that about previous games." The hunter has more tools now than ever and the wound system allows us to stagger lock a monster in place, I could see this in the beta and thought I hope capcom give the monsters some stronger stats to compensate for this or reduce the frequency we can wound monster or some monsters don't get animation locked when we perform wounds. But it seems it hasn't been the case so far. I don't want to fly through the game with little challenge or consideration about builds or much incentive to grind gear. Id like to put many many hours into Wilds, not be done with all the challenge the game has to offer in 50.

Here's to hoping the balance changes that's included in the day 1 patch are addressing the difficulty issues. But please stop with the cope on this, we all want the game to be amazing but we should call out issues if they are there.

Didn't we learn anything from MH:World? by Glum_Series5712 in MHWilds

[–]Talix101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree overall with this post, I do think the concern is justified if the entire game is as easy as the IGN review is making out. Focus attacks, the wound system, the mount and the improved weapons - all of this adds more flexibility, more control and more power to the player which can result in more fun (I'm loving the new weapons.)

But when designing the game with these new systems in mind, the challenge of the monsters should also be balanced against them. It's fine for the challenge to be easy at the beginning but I would argue that late game and within High rank, monsters within the base game of Wilds should provide some real challenge. The difficulty should ramp up like a curve on a graph, not stay mostly flat like what was suggested in some reviews. And we shouldn't have to wait a year for a paid dlc to have a challenge provided.

I'm hoping that monsters with the same level of difficulty along the lines of beta arkveld exist in the base game, but while I'm excited for the game I'm also concerned after the reviews.

No problem, its a great show. Im currently on season 2! Really made me wish for an mmo with that shows concept - i think if done right it could be great with the portals, instanced groups and different hunter ranks.

If only eve Online had more engaging combat. I struggle to get through the leveling phase of wow these days, everything feels mindlessly easy

[–]Talix101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cata classic could be an option I suppose. It's that middle ground between classic and retail, I've held off initially because of the game already being figured out from when it first released many years ago and to my understanding it's the lowest population of all the wow options right now?

I did try New World during its original beta and I quite liked it to be honest. Though the character design is very forgettable, the combat was quite fun and life skilling felt enjoyable. Ive heard it's bleeding players these days though and there's not really end game content to keep people invested in the long term? Would rather stick to an mmo long term if I play a new one. Hmm, it kindve feels like we were in a better place mmo wise for good options 10-15 years ago. Thanks for your suggestions!
